French Montana treated us to a double dose of visuals yesterday. After dropping the ‘Ocho Cinco’ earlier yesterday, he returns later in the afternoon with official video for ‘Diamonds’ featuring J.Cole and Rick Ross. This one is also off his “Mac & Cheese 3″ mixtape and is directed by Edgar Esteves.
The term “out of sight, out of mind” is something that people don’t understand the gravity of. If there’s a war in some corner of a foreign country not as many people are aware of it as if it was on your TV screen or iPad screen every day. Such is the way I feel about music in the Bay Area. Coming from the Tri State area, anything that was big on the radio there, was big on the radio everywhere. Moving out to the Bay was the first time I realized that alot of good music goes undiscovered, and I still to this day, 7 years later, haven’t figured out why. Songs like ‘Up’ from Love Rance, and ‘Function’ from E40, Problem, & IAMSU, are tracks that have the same vibe as Drake’s ‘The Motto’, but took so much time to be heard by the entire country. But every so often, a track like ‘Tell Me When To Go’ travels across the entire U.S. and gives Northern California a little bit of the massive shine it deserves. Needless to say when I saw the video of the remix of ‘Function’ for the first time, I was glad that a track from the Bay was getting the attention songs from other regions get all the time. Akon has been a pop culture staple for the better part of the last decade, and has inspired acts from Lady Gaga to T-Pain. His newest track ‘Hurt Someone’ with French Montana just had a monstrous video debut. Check the method below.
For those out there who are French Montana fans in the San Jose California area, be sure to grab some tickets for his show TONIGHT at the Fiesta Lounge. This is an after party event for Drake’s ‘Club Paradise’ tour show. 9:30p at Fiesta Nightclub, San Jose, CA.
In the past five years that XXL has been picking Freshman classes, never once has making the list been easy. This year included. Similar to 2011, the hype around the Freshmen Class has continued to grow by leaps and bounds, surprising even XXL with its popularity. For this class the buzz began earlier than ever, four months before the cover was even shot. And it seemed like everyone had a list. From subdued music fans to diehard rap junkies, from Twitter stalkers to industry heavies and featherweights, folks wanted their list to be the XXL list. Here’s who made the official roster.
Although I’m not biased, and I listen to all types of music, for some odd reason, Ive been gravitating more and more towards MMG and Rick Ross. His newest mixtape “Rich Forever” has had people talking since its release, and one of the first video’s shot was “Stay Scheemin”. The track features Drake and French Montana, and although the song is technically Ross’s, its Drake’s words that ring the loudest. Drizzy has had issues recently with both Ludacris, and Common, (among a few other un-need-mentionables), and this song seemed to be an avenue for him release some of his frustrations on the topic.
