Lakehouse Residence Winter Haven, Florida, US

Florida-based architectural practice, Max Strang Architecture have designed the Lakehouse Residence project.  This eco-friendly contemporary home is located in Winter Haven, Florida, US. Registered with the USGBC, this modern property is anticipated to be Winter Haven’s first LEED-certified residence. The interior design has been conceived as wooden volumes nestled within an outer stucco “shell”. The shell provides generous eight-foot overhangs, which shelter the walls of glass from the Florida sun. A narrow courtyard amplifies the arrival experience and creates a privacy barrier for the private realm of the home.

The luxury property incorporates important passive environmental design concepts that result in abundant day-lighting and cross-ventilation potential. Glazing on the south elevation is extremely limited and a mature oak tree filters afternoon solar heat gain. Active environmental design features include a solar photovoltaic system, solar hot-water heaters, geothermal HVAC and LED lighting. The luxury Miami home, located on a central Florida lake, contains four bedrooms and a kitchen, dining room, living room and office. A pool and covered terrace are positioned along the lake-side of the home.

Water Discus Underwater Hotel By Deep Ocean Technology

dezeen_Worlds-largest-underwater-hotel-planned-for-Dubai_ss_2 dezeen_Worlds-largest-underwater-hotel-planned-for-Dubai_ss_3

The Water Discus Hotel has been designed by Polish company Deep Ocean Technology(DOT), whose other ventures include designing underwater vehicles and equipment for seabed exploration. The hotel will be made up of two main discs, one above the water and one below the surface, connected by five columns and a vertical shaft for the stairs and lift. Smaller circular volumes above the surface will contain additional facilities, with a helicopter landing pad mounted on one. The lower disc will comprise 21 hotel rooms with underwater views, an underwater diving centre and a bar. Each of the surrounding discs will be able to detach from the main upper disc to be used as a buoyant life raft in case of emergency or flooding. The diving centre will be accessed through an underwater airlock, leading divers straight into the ocean. There’ll also be a decompression chamber for training purposes, DOT explains, while guests will also be able to take a course in piloting an underwater vehicle. The modular construction of the hotel will enable it to be expanded or even moved to a new location, according to DOT. The Water Discus won’t be the world’s first underwater hotel – there is already one in the Maldives and another in Florida. However, it will be the world’s largest and the first to be built in Dubai.

New Year Welcomes Oddball State Laws

Many new, unusual state laws will take effect when the ball drops at midnight and millions of Americans ring in the New Year, including one that will limit the number of cats in a household.

Turns out 2013 will be unlucky for cat lovers in Wellington, Kan., where the city will be restricting the number of cats in a household to no more than four.

The law was put in place after 231 cats were sent to animal clinics in 2012, Wellington Police Chief Tracy Heath told the Wellington Daily News.

“Those are cats that go to the animal clinic, they’re there for the allotted time and then, unfortunately, they are euthanized,” Heath told the newspaper.

Another unusual law taking effect at midnight is Public Act 97-743 in Illinois. This law imposes a fine of $1,000 on anyone who pops a wheelie on a motorcycle while speeding. While this law might upset some motorcyclists, the state is now giving them a free pass to go through red lights.

Motorcycles are often not heavy enough to trigger magnetic sensors at traffic lights to inform them a vehicle has pulled up. Motorcyclists usually have to wait for a car to pull up before the light turns green.

The new bill states that after a “reasonable” amount of time, the motorcycle could pass the red light if the coast is clear. The law doesn’t apply to cities where the population exceeds 2 million people.

Illinois is also imposing a law cracking down on those who posses, sell or distribute shark fins. For those that haven’t looked at a map lately, Illinois is nowhere near an ocean.

Come 12:01 a.m. in Concord, Mass., plastic bottles will be considered contraband. Concord will be the first town in the nation to outlaw plastic bottles.

As of Jan. 1, it will no longer be illegal to flash your headlights in Florida to warn drivers about a speeding trap set by police.

In California, more than 800 laws are about to take effect, including one that allows driverless vehicles on the road. But a human must be present in the passenger’s seat of all computer-driven cars.

As for those Californians who are still driving, you can now whip out your proof of insurance on your smart phone if police pull you over.

Those who love deep fryers in North Carolina need to take into consideration that it’s a misdemeanor to steal used cooking oil, according to Torbett’s Grease Law. It’s a felony if the value of the stolen grease – or the grease plus its container – is worth more than $1,000.

If you want to stay out of trouble in Kentucky, don’t release pigs into the wild. The state’s growing population of feral pigs has caused officials to slap a fine on any person caught releasing hogs into the wild.

The Porsche Tower.

A Miami Beach condo developer plans to build a new skyscraper with a robotic parking deck built in. The Porsche Design Tower project will allow owners to ride their vehicles into a robotic elevator system that drops them and their vehicles at their doorstep. The $560 million tower will rise in Sunny Isles Beach as part of a collaboration between Porsche Design Group and a local developer, Gil Dezer. “After the resident pulls over and switches off the engine, a robotic arm that works much like an automatic plank will scoop up the car and put it into the elevator. Once at the desired floor, the same robotic arm will park the car, leaving the resident nearly in front of his front door.” The condo will have 132 units over 57 stories, with larger units sporting up to four parking spaces per unit.

A $3 billion Casino Resort Plan For Miami?

Miami is to get a new $3 billion mega-resort next year constructed by the same firm behind Singapore’s massive Resorts World Sentosa destination.  The enormous Resorts World Miami, which will overlook Miami’s prized waterfront, is set to open next year in between Miami International Airport and Miami Beach, Malaysian developer Genting confirmed.  The development will stretch three miles along the bayfront, filling a total of 13.9 acres and containing multiple skyscrapers with a futuristic ocean-inspired design.  With approximately 10 million feet of space, it will be one of the largest development projects in the history of Miami, one of the U.S. most popular holiday destinations.

A total of four hotels will call Resorts World Miami home, offering a total of 5,200 rooms, alongside which a series of residential towers will also be built.  Underneath the skyscrapers is an eight-story base building, which will hold a 250,000 square foot retail centre, over 50 restaurants, lounges bars and nightclubs and the largest ball room in the United States.  Genting also confirmed that it plans to include a casino, subject to approval from Florida’s lawmakers.  On top of the base podium’s rooftop will be a 3.6 acre lagoon with beaches, allowing guests to swim over 1,000 feet from one end to the other — or walk the length of the building on a new Baywalk, which stretches for three miles.

Genting is the name behind the enormous Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore, which, along with Marina Bay Sands, was among the world’s first truly ‘integrated resort’ and has significantly boosted Singapore’s tourism income.  With the announcement of Resorts World Miami, it looks like Florida could also be in for a touch of the Genting magic.

BCR vs. BK (It Only Takes A Few People To Make An Entire Race Look Bad).

Ton’s of people have been talking about the video above, and even among my closest friends, this video caused a discussion that upset a few people.  The story I’ve heard about whats taking place in the video is that during ‘Black College Reunion’ week, 2 women were in Burger King, waiting to be served, and the wait was so unbearable for the obese women, they started senselessly tearing up the Burger King and accosting the staff.  (This is the story I seem to keep hearing over and over.)

My first question is why do people have to act like that in the first place?  The world may never know, so lets just move along.  One question that came to my mind immediately after watching the video, and seeing the comments underneath the video from random viewers on YouTube.  WHY are people so racially driven when talking about these peoples actions.  Yes, its quite obvious that everyone that was causing trouble appeared African American, but why does that spark comments about an entire race?  Because of one group of rowdy people, an entire race seems to get put into a box and labeled, which I personally think is very unfair.

The comments that I saw are in the picture below, and you can click the picture to enlarge the photo, but people really said some wild sh*t.  Where my questions lie, when there are videos of crazy drunk white kids during spring break, no one classifies ALL white people as being that ridiculous, its just openly accepted that the group of people being observed in the video are idiots.  When there are videos of a group of girls flashing people during Mardi Gras, not all women are labeled as sluts who will show off their tits for a necklace they’ll lose before the end of the week, so why is it that all black people are being labeled (by some) as ignorant, destructive, or disorderly just because of the actions of a few fat girls?

One of the things that really threw gas onto the raging fire of a discussion my friends and I had, was when we saw someone comment that they themselves were black, and then proceeded to say that most people of the black race can be ignorant or absent minded.  No one person can speak for an entire race, and I think people seem to forget that.  Its unfortunate that whoever the person was that made that comment has black friends that can be ignorant and absent minded, but please don’t do the SAME thing everyone else is doing by labeling your own race as predominately ignorant and absent minded.

The other wild comment I read was about the ‘Obama Entitlement’ class.  I’ve never heard this term prior to reading these comments, but I can naturally assume it means that there exists a class of black people who feel “entitled” to something, or to act a certain way because President Obama is office.  And regardless of weather I’m 100% on the mean or not, people seem to be under the impression this is an iron clad, rock solid phenomenon.  I’m a stickler for details, so let me just examine that one for a second…

1. President Obama is half black, and half white, so either the “Obama Entitlement Class” applies to both black and white people.  OR, it only applies to mulatto children who have both a black and a white parent.

2. I would presume this “Obama Entitlement” suggests that the attributes of the president in office can effect the actions of the people who share the presidents most publicized qualities.  If that’s the case liars would have been tearing up Burger Kings when Nixon was in office, promiscuous men would have been at it when Clinton was in office, and vast number of less than intelligent former cocaine addicted rich kids would have been pulling things apart when Bush lived in the white house.

And finally, 3, it’s ignorant in itself to assume that an entire “class” of people feel exactly the same way about themselves because of the current president being elected.  If some people feel entitled because our president is half black, that’s fine, but how can you tell from a YouTube video that the people there that day were part of that group?

But lets move past the Obama point, past the “all black people are destructive in large groups” thing, and even past the racism aspect of it.  All in all, I’m not trying to preach, or make some sort of major political, racial, or jump on any type of high horse.  All I’m trying to say is this… Two fat b*tches had to wait too long for a Whopper at Burger King… what did you think would happen?

Victoria M.

Normally the models I come across are established across the world, the hip hop community, or the internet.  Stumbling across the lovely Victoria M, however, proves that you can be stunning while being international in quite a different way.  Born in Siberia (Russia, for those of you who may be less worldly) she has since found herself on the beaches of Miami and has been enjoying it for a little over 5 years.  Her sultry looks, and curvaceous body doesn’t necessarily reflect the style of European fashion community, so when Victoria wound up on South Beach, the masses suggested she try the modeling field, and thank God she did.

Victoria has danced every style down to stripping, and is extremely athletic.  Being gorgeous is far from her only asset, she claims to be very athletic, a sports fan, and was also an avid swimmer and theater actress in her yester-years.  Her all natural body has her being looked at for Event Promotion, Go-go Dancing, Music Promotion/Music Video work, Glamor, Runway, Print, Fitness, Victoria even says she wouldn’t mind being one of the women who struts around the ring at an MMA fight.  So enjoy the photos, Vicky M is definitely on her way to making waves in the urban modeling industry.
