Iggy Azalea – Black Widow ft. Rita Ora

“Black Widow” is a song by Australian rapper Iggy Azalea, from her debut studio album, The New Classic (2014). The song’shook is sung by British recording artist Rita Ora, and its lyrics chronicle subjects of revenge and feminism in a failed romantic relationship. “Black Widow” was written by Azalea, Katy Perry, Sarah Hudson, Benny Blanco, and duo Stargate; the latter also produced the song.  The song impacted on mainstream radio stations in the US as the fifth single from The New Classic and the accompanying music video for the song. The song has currently peaked at number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming her third top-five hit, following “Fancy” and “Problem”. The song also became Ora’s first top-five hit in the US.

The Drips.

The Light Drop is supposed to make people think about how we are dealing with our natural resources, in this particular case, the water, which is the main source of energy for every living organism in this fantastic world. Water is energy indeed.  This wall-mounted lighting element illuminates the custom-moldedpolycarbonate bulb with an embedded, dimmable LED in the faucet, whichis intuitively controlled by the tap (the more you twist, the more light you get) which also is a good way to contextualize energy use (though at a greatly reduced rate, compared to an incandescent  version of the same design.  This design won the Third Prize in the Bright LED international design competition, by design boom.  It´s currently being sold and produced by Wever & Ducre, with the help from my great partners and friends from the fabulous Studio Mango.

Stefania Morland Designs.

I’ve been getting closer and closer to the world of fashion as I work on projects with different with folks from designers and models, and I’ve started to have an eye for good work.  Normally a black cocktail dress that comes to right above the booty is enough to render me speechless, but after seeing some dress designs from Stefania Morland, I know beautiful woman can dress to impress in many more ways.  Her incredible designs, are not overly gaudy, but still give off a sense of eloquence and sophistication that are amplified by her attention to detail in each piece I’ve seen.  Check the method.

The Wildest Wedding Cakes Ever.

Anyone who knows me, is pretty well aware that marriage isn’t really in my vocabulary anymore.  But that doesn’t stop me from appreciating the work it takes to make someone else’s big day. Few things are more important on a wedding day (apart from both partners turning up; the ring being secure; and nobody objecting during the ceremony) than the cake. Very few weddings are without such a centrepiece. It’s just a shame that so many couples opt for the same traditional, boring designs when there is so much opportunity to impress and surprise the guests.  Here are 20 brilliant examples, to be used as inspiration for your own big day.

Aesir Copenhagen x Yves Béhar Phone.

In collaboration with designer Yves Béhar, Copenhagen-based Aesir is releasing a headset design with both visual appeal and functional tactility.  “In an age when the industry seems to think that phones aren’t for speaking anymore, I wanted to focus on the idea of voice, clarity and simplicity.  The central tenet behind the +YvesBéhar is to literally craft the visual details, craft the functional tactility, and craft the user interface.  The +YvesBéhar champions the idea of craftsmanship in an age that’s obsessed with more and making last year’s products obsolete. Instead we propose better and long-lasting as our starting criteria.”  Two designs of the +YvesBéhar will be available: One in 18k gold (€42,000) and another in 316L stainless steel (€7,250).  Both will also feature wraparound ceramic uppers and a sapphire crystal lens. The phone will first be available in Europe this summer and the rest of the world this Fall.  Holla at me if you want one of these too Ms. Novikov.

The Sabre G.H. Mumm

This year once again, the House of G.H. Mumm presents a limited edition work: the Sabre G.H. Mumm by Patrick Jouin. Patrick Jouin wrapped a stainless steel champagne sword with a beautiful red leather handle resembling Mumm’s signature Cordon Rouge.  I was particularly intrigued by this because champagne swords are among the short list of items I am never allowed to play with… ever.  But it’s a unique item that combines the sensuality of a red leather handle with the resistance of a steel blade but with a square end that won’t cut.  This edition is presented in a box of pure white, of lacquered wood and leather, incorporating a tray, specially designed to hold ice and keep a bottle of Cordon Rouge at the ideal temperature.

Visualizing Light…

The To Be Touched Range is a series of intuitive light controllers for the LivingColors series by Philips Design. The models in this range from a simple on/off switch to one that includes a dimmer. The beauty in these switches is the visual color effect that they imbibe. The color saturation and intensity are directly proportionate to the lighting settings chosen. So a deep color ring suggests that the lights are at their brightest. It also has a proximity-detection and sleep-mode: The device wakes up, showing the color ring, when a finger approaches. If no one is within range of the device after 15 seconds the backlight is switched off and the device goes into sleep mode.

How it works

“The main iconic color ring is touch-based and backlit for direct feedback / feedforward. It therefore can change its appearance depending on which functionality mode is selected by using the touch mode buttons with intuitive icons above the ring (for example color, saturation and intensity for the color user interface). With the To Be Touched user interfaces you have a choice of an infinite variety of colors –at the touch of a finger. In short, you control light with light.”

Currently in 4 models:

  • On/off/dim (IR)
  • Color Temperature (DMX)
  • Color (DMX)
  • On/off/dim (Dali)
