“The Entourage” Cadillac.

Cadillac-Ciel-concept-Entourage-trailer-1024x576

Since getting my first look at the Entourage movie a few weeks ago (a review of which you can find right here), I’ve been asked consistently about the Cadillac in the film’s trailer.  The Cadillac Ciel, started out as a concept in 2011, but still screams ‘car of the future’.  Check out some more about this amazing vehicle.

cadillac-ciel-concept2Ciel (the French word for sky) is what inspired this noteworthy vehicle.  Driving California’s Highway 1 in an open car while the sun sets is the type of journey the Ciel team envisioned during its design. The Ciel’s doors are hinged at the rear to reveal a sweeping view of the dramatic interior, accented with nickel-plated trim, exquisite Italian Olive wood and soft leather. Cadillac’s heritage of advanced technology is evident everywhere you look, beginning with the Ciel’s bold LED headlamps and tail lights.

Simplicity, authenticity and spaciousness were the guiding principles when it came to developing the interior. Seats wrapped in glove-soft leather feature sloping bolsters that allow passengers to slide into them more comfortably. But perhaps the defining element is the incorporation of Italian Olive wood trim throughout. This special wood is a premium yet sustainable material, and in the Ciel came from a single, fallen tree, painstakingly prepared and specially cut.

Transparent gauges are framed within a brushed-aluminum housing that has the intricate depth of a high-quality chronograph. A “floating” center console that runs from the front to the back features hidden connectivity portals for each passenger, allowing each to make dinner reservations, check the weather, or even upload photos of the journey via social media. Additional technology includes inductive charging and Bluetooth connectivity. The final touches? Heated and cooled seats, a drawer containing sun lotion, sun glasses and towels, and aromatherapy that is controlled from the rear armrest.

A Somosaguas House By A-cero.

From the first moment the house clearly shows its intentions, and risky stylized forms, thanks to a subtle handling of curves that match harmoniously with their natural context without sacrificing a distinctly modern look. Horizontal lines dominate volumes, which are superimposed in layers, from a partially visible basement, forming layers that appear to emerge naturally from the ground.

The lines outside and inside of the house are trying to produce sculptural volumes, in fact A-Cero architecture is largely inspired by the great sculptures of contemporary artists like Richard Serra and David Nash and land art. Art and Architecture have gone hand in hand in this and all their projects.

On the ground floor, the main lobby is highlighted, situated beneath a curved canopy that adds a great deal of space, from where the rest of the house spreads out; the living room, dining room, master bedroom suite including a closet and bathroom, gymnasium, indoor pool, kitchen and office.

On the second floor lies a painting studio in a long and curved deck, enjoying excellent natural light and views over the surroundings. The basement floor is dedicated to leisure and health, and welcomes the following areas: Txoko, game room, locker rooms for the outdoor pool, massage room, theater, wine cellar, gym, storage area and the service and facilities for the entire dwelling.

In the treatment of the garden, A-Cero wanted to achieve a connectivity between the inside and outside of the home in spite of the slope that exists between the street access and lake. They solved the problem using descending lateral landings of slate gravel leading from the enormous terrace of teh first floor to the garden.

The ground floor or basement of the house has direct access from each room of that floor.  Both the ground floor terrace and the pool deck are of the same material as the floor inside the house, (techlam) in white, very good material for both interior and exterior use. This will ensure continuity between indoors and outdoors.

The landscaping, designed by A-Cero, is clearly Japanese-inspired, as shown by the abundance of large bonsais and different species of flowering trees and bojs.  Also, large ornamental rocks bought from Galicia were carefully placed. The large curved swimming pool (400 sq m/ 4,300 sq ft), is covered with a dark gray liner (PVC laminate slip). The pool features the “disappearing edge” and this effect achieves a continuity between the pool and lake.  In the middle of the pool is placed a sculpture of orthogonal forms that seems to float on the water’s surface. This is a sculpture by Austrian sculptor Ernesto Knorr and is made of cut steel.”

Hennessy Beauté du Siècle Cognac.

Hennessy, a spirits division of LVMH, has launched its new limited-edition Hennessy Beauté du Siècle cognac with Schiphol Airport Retail at Amsterdam Schiphol airport.  The cognac marks the centenary of Kilian Hennessy, the sixth generation after the founder of the cognac house.  Beauté du Siècle is a contemporary interpretation of a traditional liqueur chest containing a carafe of cognac, created by master blender and taster Yann Fillious and more than 10 artists and craftsmen.  Valued at €150,000 ($190,000), the carafe of cognac is a blend of around 100 specially selected eaux-de-vie, the oldest of which dating back to 1907.  The cognac is presented in a Baccarat crystal decanter in the form of sample flasks used by the House of Hennessy.

The Perrelet Turbine Poker Watch.

I’m a huge watch person, and although I put ton’s of wrist pieces up on the blog,  the Perrelet Turbine Poker watch is one I know for sure I’ll have in my collection quite soon.  This is a piece which makes very clever use of the brands aeronautical-inspired 12 blade double rotor dial.  A selection of cards are hidden beneath the rotor blades which constantly revolves thus obscuring the cards which will not be revealed until the rotor stops.  Perrelet offers three dial options featuring different card hands. The case is in DLC coated stainless steel and has a rubber strap.  Movement is the Swiss automatic Perrelet caliber P-181 with double rotor, exclusive to the brand. Retail price for the time piece starts at $6,000 USD.

A Porsche Cell Phone?

Just yesterday I was schedule to come to through to a Porsche event in the Bay Area, and although I couldn’t make it, I tried to look up some pictures of the event this morning.  I didn’t find what I was looking for, however, what I did find was that ‘Research in Motion’, in collaboration with Porsche Design just launched its latest BlackBerry smartphone Porsche Design P’9981.  The exterior is made up of a forged stainless steel frame and the rear is covered with hand-wrapped leather. It also boasts of a laser cut QWERTY keyboard.  The P’9981 comes fully functional with 8 GB of hard-drive memory, a 1.2 GHz processor, as well as Dual-Band Wi-Fi capabilities and offering 720p HD video.  The device offers a smooth browsing experience and a built-in compass, as well as the usual selection of exclusive appl on BlackBerry App World™ 3.0.  The BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9981 smartphone is set to hit stores later this year. Pricing information is not yet announced, but the device is anticipated to cost $2,000.  “The Porsche Design P’9981 is a truly modern luxury smartphone, where the timeless style of Porsche Design meets the unmatched mobile experience provided by BlackBerry,” Todd Wood of RIM said describing the phone.  This will be RIM’s first collaboration with a luxury brand to release a smartphone and RIM now joins other collaborations on the market today, including Samsung with Armani, LG with Prada, Asus with Lamborghini, and Acer with Ferrari.

Kanye’s Paris Fashion Collection.

According to UK publication The Telegraph, the fashion-conscious rapper is getting ready to show his first full men’s and women’s ranges this fall.  Kanye West is currently working on the high-end creations, based out of a studio in central Paris, the paper quotes a source.  Just last year, he had told Elle: “Did you not see the Lindsay [Lohan] and Ungaro collection? That was 9/11 for celebrities doing fashion. After that I thought: ‘Well I can’t do a line now’.”

But the big-mouthed entertainer seems to have changed his mind, having already released a collection of luxury scarves with design collective M/M Paris last month.  Kanye West previously released sneakers with French luxe label Louis Vuitton and upped his fashion credentials with design internships including at US retailer Gap and Italian design house Fendi.
