Lordson J vs. Times Square.

DSC_0192So over the years there have been a plethora of women showcased on this site for their looks, and I’ve gotten email after email from female subscribers about featuring male models.  I was never really sure how to approach it, until I saw a billboard featuring a very good friend of mine in Times Square briefly.  It turns out that Avera Inc. is have a competition fueled by votes to see who’s photo gets a semi-permanent spot in the center of the Big Apple, and I felt like it’d be the perfect time to satisfy female viewers by having them vote for the first male model featured on this site.  Lordson J has many more things in the works, and if the ladies put in their ‘likes’ on the Avera site, we’ll be sure to feature him more often.  Click any of the pics to see more.DSC_0061deep

True Male Friendship from Guinness

general

Irish brand Guinness has shown that male friendship – it’s not just to drink beer together. True friendship is tested by time, tests and actions. As a part of multi-year campaign “Made of more” Guinness created 60 seconds video where using only 20 words they were able to show the true nature of human relationships. This video has it all: competition, failure, fall, and pain, as well as dedication, loyalty, strength of the human spirit and the friendship of these men. And as a finishing touch – composition Cinematic Orchestra “To Build a Home” sounding on a background.

Classic 1957 Maserati 250S

general 01 02 03

A classic mid-century Maserati has been restored to perfection for a showing at the RM Auctions London exhibition this September. This 1957 Maserati 250S is one of just a few ever constructed, a vehicle that represented the best of the 200S series that was popularized on the amateur racing circuit. Unlike the smaller 200S, the 1957 Maserati 250S was powered by a hefty 230 horsepower inline 6 engine that raced to 161 mph against professional-class competition. The 1957 Maserati 250S was produced for a handful of racing pioneers from the middle of the last century. Several were built for Jim Hall and Carroll Shelby, the latter of which is one of the most recognized names in American motor sport history.

Pulteney Single Malt… The “World’s Best Whisky”.

A single malt whisky produced by a distillery in a remote part of Scotland has beaten 1,200 whiskies from around the world to be crowned World Whisky of the Year.  The Old Pulteney whisky produced by the Pulteney distillery in Wick, northern Scotland, took the top spot in Jim Murray’s respected 2012 Whisky Bible.  Despite Scotland’s reputation as the home of whisky, it is only the second time a Scottish distillery has won the coveted title.  The 21-year-old dram scored 97.5 points out of 100, equalling the best ever score achieved by a whisky in Murray’s ratings.  Whisky expert Murray tasted more than 1,200 whiskies to put together the eighth annual Whisky Bible. The Pulteney 21-year-old was one of the last whiskies to be put to the test.  Murray said:”I was on the home straight after four months of continuous tasting. By that time I was pretty sure I knew what the winner was going to be. It needed something exceptional to knock the leader off its perch.  “That’s exactly what happened. To be honest, I was amazed. I had never come across a Pulteney 21-year-old like it.”  The whisky is matured in American Oak casks and bottled at the 185-year-old Pulteney distillery which claims to be the most northerly distillery in mainland Britain.  Despite its long history, Murray said the Pulteney single malt (which sells for £75/$120 a bottle) is still largely unknown because it lacked “the financial muscle of the major whisky barons”, Murray said.  Two US bourbons were runners up in this year’s rankings. George T Stagg took the second place prize and 10-year-old Parker’s Heritage collection Wheated Mash Bourbon finished in third.

Want A Date With Scarlett Jo?

Among the hundreds of lots on offer at Christie’s September wine auction in Hong Kong this month, there’s one in particular that will appeal to more than just wine lovers.  The winning bid for Lot No. 519 will receive a lunch date with Scarlett Johansson and six bottles of 100-year-old Moët et Chandon champagne packed in a special Louis Vuitton leather chest.  The lot is estimated to be worth 380,000 to 500,000 Hong Kong dollars (US$48,700 to $64,100). The proceeds of the sale will go to the Nature Conservancy in China.  Christie’s said that the idea behind the charity lot came from Moët et Chandon itself, which currently retains Ms. Johansson as a celebrity endorser.

Upstream Wakeboarding.

This 4th of July, I’m headed a few hours north of wine country (Napa Valley, for those of you not familiar with NorCal) with a few buddies of mine to do it up in a lake house.  While on the lake, we’ll be engaged in tons of water sports, so I decided to do a little bit of research.  In my quest for knowledge, I came cross the video below about folks bored with wakeboarding in a lake behind a boat.  They seem to have decided it was time to head down to thier swift-moving neighborhood creek, attach the same type of motorized, ariel tow lines they use in wakeskating, and wake upstream against the current.  The footage is from last week’s 2011 Red Bull UpStream in Slovakia’s Bratislava, Cunovo.  I’ve never heard of any of the winners of this bizarre, foreign water sport, but it looks quite, quite fun none the less.

Weeds Good.

My boys with FreedMinds are giving away free tickets the Oddfuture OFWGKTA concert.  As anyone who’s a fan of Oddfuture knows Oddfuture is a fan of Mary Jane.  So if you excited to go to the show, submit your best weed smoking picture to info@freedminds.com, and the best picture will win free tickets to the show.  Good luck, always pass to the left.

Does This Girl Deserve To Be In The Magazine?

Naturally when you think of DJ Storm, there are three things that come to most peoples minds… Teen Vouge is NOT one of them.  But when my good friend, Kelsey Ferguson told me she was in a snap shot competition in Teen Vouge to win a personal shoot in New York, I knew I wanted to help out.  Kelsey is one of the people who worked on Reginald Sylvester’s ‘Subtle Detail’ line in previous seasons, so everyone wearing SD apparel, or any fan reading this blog should take a quick second to vote for Kelsey on the website. “I tend to lean towards things that are versatile and that I can see going with many different outfits and styles. I am moving to London this fall to attend Central St. Martins for fashion design, and in the process I have begun to lean towards statement pieces. I do not follow trends- I stick to what I like, what fits my style, and what I know I can keep in my closet multiple seasons. I like to mix and match- Classic things with a punk or retro twist are key looks in my style. Fashion changes, style remains, so it is important that when shopping and dressing we stick to what we know works for us.” – Kelsey Ferguson
