Splinter Works may have created the ultimate way to relax with Vessel, a new and elegant take on the modern bathtub. The design resembles the imagery of a hammock, and is constructed out of carbon fiber for its strength and ability to form complex curves. Floating off of the ground, Vessel is attached to the walls by two stainless steel brackets that can be covered or left bare and is filled by a sleek floor standing tap. As for drainage, there is a a built in water release at the base of the design, though a down pipe drain can also be installed if needed. Measuring nearly 9-feet in length, this sculptural tub also comes in a variety of colors such as red, blue, yellow, pink, bronze and pure silver, as well as different custom sizes to best suit the buyers personal preferences.

The British car maker is sourcing Kodewa for the build (the same people that built the Lotus Le Mans car), and have teamed up with German concept designer Daniel Simon (the same man behind Tron: Legacy) for that beautiful carbon fiber and titanium constructed body. As expected, the bike will be extremely limited (100 units in total), and there will be customization options for clients. The bike is said to be equipped with a four-stroke 1195cc V-twin engine cranking out 200 horsepower, all in a motorcycle with a curb weight just under 400 pounds.

Dodge-Challenger-Vapor-for-US-Air-Force-1

The U.S. Air Force is known to get a bit creative when it comes to their recruitment tools. Built using all sorts of military specific technology, this 4-wheeled assassin is ready for any mission that comes its way. The Vapor supercar is equipped with an infrared thermal image camera on the front bumper that works alongside a roof-mounted 360-degree surveillance camera, allowing the driver to see right through pitch black darkness using the built-in dashboard command center. The command center includes three LCD screens which also give the driver the ability to activate/deactivate the “stealth exhaust system” (essentially exhaust cutouts) for super sneaky, ultra silent attacks. The stealth matte black paint job is the same stuff they use on their stealth planes (absorbs radar), the Lambo-inspired doors are Biometric controlled, and the carbon fiber wheels add the perfect finishing touch to this ride.

Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo for Gran Turismo 6

mercedes-amg-vision-gran-turismo-for-gran-turismo-6-1

Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled its latest supercar, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo, but there’s a catch. The supercar you see here was designed exclusively for “Gran Turismo 6,” meaning that no road-going versions of this model will be produced. However, Mercedes-Benz did create this 1:1 scale model for the opening of its new Research & Development Center in Sunnyvale, California. The AMG Vision Gran Turismo features an AMG V8 with 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, and an aluminum space frame with carbon fiber components to keep the weight down. Like the recent Mercedes-Benz SLS and the 300SL from the ’50s, the Vision Gran Turismo comes complete will gullwing doors. Players will be able to drive the new supercar when “Gran Turismo 6″ launches in December.

Nissan Bladeglider

01-bladeglider-660x439 02-bladeglider-660x469Nissan is out to reinvent road racing, first with the DeltaWing and then the ZEOD RC. Now it’s taking the lessons learned from both cars and applying them to road. And here’s the kicker: Nissan is actually considering putting it into production. This is the Nissan Bladeglider, and it’s a spitting image of its race-bound predecessors, with a triangular shape that’s both incredibly aerodynamic and super light thanks to a carbon fiber reinforced body shell. The front end is just over 3 feet wide, with two skinny tires tucked into the pointed nose and controlled by a Knight Rider-esque steering wheel. There’s seating for three inside the open-air cabin, with the driver’s seat mounted in the middle — à la the McLaren F1 — and sliding laterally towards the Lambo-hinged doors for quick ingress and egress. Two passenger seats and help contribute to its road-hugging 30:70 front-to-rear weight distribution. Nissan isn’t saying exactly what’s motivating the Bladeglider, only hinting that in-wheel electric motors will power the rear wheels, manipulating torque on the fly for maximum performance, with power provided by rear-mounted lithium-ion battery packs. The Bladeglider makes its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show this month, and according to Nissan it could “mature into a production car.”

Jon-Olssons-Carbon-Fiber-R8-Razor-GTR-1Jon-Olssons-Carbon-Fiber-R8-Razor-GTR-4

Swedish professional freeskier and alpine ski racer Jon Olsson is most known for his abilities on the snow, but he has become quite known on the aftermarket automotive scene over the past few years due to his love for fast cars.  Last year we took a look at the spectacular Camouflage Ski Transporter Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 owned by the famous skier, and now we take a look at his latest creation in what he calls “the most extreme R8 in the world.” This Audi R8 has been tuned by the team at PPI, and pumps a staggering 600 horsepower out of the V10 motor.

The vehicle has been equipped with 10 layers of clear coat over the paint and carbon fiber to ensure that this thing can take a beating in any weather conditions. The vehicle has also been widened, and now stands wider than a Bugatti Veyron, all while having the same power to weight ratio as an R8 LMS race car. Of course what would one of Jon Olsson’s vehicles be without the bespoke ski box on top of the car equipped with LED lighting and a ski boot warmer that runs off an independent power source as to not drain the vehicle’s power source.

Lamborghini Egoista Concept For 50th Anniversary

egoistaLamborghini01 egoistaLamborghini02 egoistaLamborghini03 egoistaLamborghini04 egoistaLamborghini05

Powered by a 600 horsepower 5.2-liter V10 engine, the lamborghini egoista celebrates the company’s 50th anniversary with a design by walter da silva, the head of designer of the volkswagen group. The single-seater concept is characterized by two fundamental aspects: its architecture, and the materials used. The cockpit, designed like a tailor-made suit for the driver, is a removable section which, once combined with the rest of the vehicle, creates a perfect technical, mechanical and aerodynamic unit. Influenced by the world of aviation – specifically an apache helicopter – the cockpit can be ejected in an emergency. The cockpit, made completely of  carbon fiber and aluminum, represents a sort of survival cell, allowing the driver to isolate and protect themselves from external elements, they kept an eye on the future when designing the egoista, with the idea that its cockpit could have been taken from a jet aircraft and integrated into a road vehicle, to provide a different travel option.

The R8 V10 sports a complete carbon fiber widebody that weighs in at a scant 1,320 lbs or so. In total, the PPI Design transformation shaves over 550 lbs from the R8′s body, while power upgrades from PPI and Statis should have Olsson’s car over the 710-hp mark. Mansory Carbonado Lamborghini Aventador‎.

Mansory has reworked the Lamborghini Aventador into a limited production model named the Carbonado, after the black diamonds found in Africa and Brazil.  The Carbonado is coming with a lot of carbon fiber accessories, including new carbon fiber panels applied over its body and over its engine hood.  Interior is given the special leather treatment on the seats and dashboard, a newly designed airbag sports steering wheel made out of real carbon fiber and non-slip aluminum pedals.  Other modifications from the standard supercar include a new high performance exhaust, which with a re-mapped ECU lifts the power output to 743 bhp.  According to the German tuner, the model can now accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds before reaching a top speed of 355 km/h.  Mansory’s special edition Lamborghini will be produced in a limited run of six units.

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Merveilleux.

Bugatti has unveiled the Super Sport Edition Merveilleux. The one-off model is apparently a birthday present for a mysterious Chinese man named Simon.  This special Super Sport model is distinguished by an unpainted carbon fiber body, blacked-out alloys and brightwork, and a bright blue interior.  The Edition Merveilleux is unveiled in a special video (below) wishing the owner of the latest one-off Bugatti a happy birthday.  The Super Sport has a quad turbocharged sixteen-cylinder engine with 1,200 PS (882 kW / 1184 hp) and 1,500 Nm (1,106 lb-ft) of torque.  The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport currently holds the Guinness record for the world’s fastest production with an official top speed of 430 km/h (268 mph).

The Masonry Cyrus Aston Martin.

Mansory has release the Cyrus package based on the Aston Martin DBS or the Aston Martin DB9. A coilover suspension provides the best road holding and emphasises the striking rims in XXL. The refinement is perfected by an exclusive interior programme. At the front axle, a newly designed front skirt with enlarged air inlets provides the optimal ventilation for the twelve-cylinder aggregate. The Mansory CYRUS Aston Martin DBS / DB9 front is visually enhanced with the newly designed carbon bonnet. The newly designed rear skirt with the integrated diffuser emphasises the superior look and provides space for four stainless steel end pipes of the sonorous sport exhaust system.

The Vertu Constellation Quest.

Vertu, the leading manufacturer of luxury mobile phones has launched a carbon fibre edition of its Constellation Quest handset.  Engineered using high performance materials combined with luxury finishes, Constellation Quest Carbon Fibre takes its inspiration from the world of motorsport and aeronautical design.  Constellation Quest Carbon Fiber features a matte black PVD body with detailing in polished stainless steel or polished 18 carat gold.  Surrounding the pillow, the polished stainless steel or gold detailing features a new step-design, unique to this product, giving a more geometric styling to this component.  The navigation key is finished in polished black PVD, as are the turn key, flash and lens surrounds, forming the essential design DNA of Constellation.  “Constellation Quest Carbon Fibre is Vertu’s first product to combine its smartphone technology with this most contemporary of design materials,“ said Perry Oosting, Vertu President.  “The result is a product that gives those customers who prefer the sporting aesthetic the opportunity to have a qwerty device incorporating the latest business tools.”  This luxury smarthphone is available from this month, and the price is €7,700 for the stainless steel model and €12,000 for the 18-karat gold model.

Hublot King Power Carbon Fiber Cathedral Watch.

To mark the 2011 Baselworld Fair Hublot is presenting a world first, with a minute repeater watch featuring two “Cathedral” type gongs, a tourbillon and column wheel chronograph, with carbon fiber bridges, in a case made from carbon fiber.  This is a perfect illustration of “Fusion” between great watchmaking tradition and the technology of the future.

Another Damn Lambo.

I know I put up a Lambo very recently, but when I saw the Lamborghini Sesto, and I had to put it up.  The words Sesto elemento are Italian for “sixth element.” The term refers to the matte-finish carbon-fiber that makes up the Sesto’s body panels and basic structure. Carbon fiber is many things — hyper-expensive, difficult to repair, pretty — but it is also one of the lightest and strongest materials currently being used in car construction. As a result, Lamborghini claims that the V-10-powered Sesto weighs in at a staggering 2200 pounds. (Perspective: That’s 1100 pounds lighter than a Lamborghini Gallardo and a fat passenger’s heft away from a Lotus Elise.) In other words, if it weren’t for the massive engine mounted behind the passenger compartment, the Sesto might flutter down the street in a stiff breeze. This is in stark contrast to Lamborghini’s current lineup, almost all of which emphasizes power, traction and comfort over low weight.
