Beijing’s Sunrise Kempinski Hotel

The hotel is located one hour outside of Beijing, on the shores of Yanqi Lake as the name suggests, the architecture references the shape of the sun emerging above the horizon, while in profile, the structure is shaped like a scallop – a form that represents fortune in chinese culture. The design rises to a height of 97 meters, with the top of the building reflecting the sky’s ever-changing colors. The middle portion of the façade mirrors the surrounding mountain range, while the base of the hotel reflects the water’s surface. Opening in november 2014, construction took 24 months to complete, and despite the design’s all-glass exterior, the building should be able to withstand a level 8 earthquake.

Nike Zoom Hyperflight Premium “China” Pack

Nike-Zoom-Hyperflight-Premium-China-Pack

Nike has unveiled its full lineup of Zoom Hyperflights paying homage to China’s three largest cities: Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. The “China” pack offers three distinctive designs, with “Beijing: Lion” featuring a golden-copper synthetic upper and intricate weave patterns. The “Shanghai: Shark” references the famed port city with a silver-tone upper and aqua accents. ” Guangzhou: Tiger” features an orange and black tiger-stripe pattern inspired by the city’s dominance as a trade and manufacturing hub. The pack has already launched in China and will launch globally in early August.

Ultraluxury Car Demand Won’t Grow In 2013.

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said global demand for ultra-luxury sports cars will probably not increase next year. The main reasons for this are the European debt crisis and the slowing of China’s economy. “We are very cautious for next year. The Europe crisis is not over,” he said. To make up for the slowing sales in Europe and China, Lamborghini is now looking to expand in markets like Singapore and Hong Kong. The maker of the Aventador supercar also opened a second dealership in April in India, where the number of millionaires will more than double by 2015. The ultra-luxury unit of Volkswagen AG hasn’t made the decision whether to introduce an SUV, Winkelmann said. Lamborghini unveiled an SUV prototype — the Urus — at the Beijing car show this year.

The Galaxy SOHO by Zaha Hadid Architects

This stunning architectural project created by well know designer Zaha Hadid. The Galaxy SOHO project in central Beijing for SOHO China is a 330 000m2 office, retail and entertainment complex that will become an integral part of the living city, inspired by the grand scale of Beijing. Its architecture is a composition of five continuous, flowing volumes that are set apart, fused or linked by stretched bridges. These volumes adapt to each other in all directions, generating a panoramic architecture without corners or abrupt transitions that break the fluidity of its formal composition. Working on Galaxy for Soho China was very exciting. The design responds to the varied contextual relationships and dynamic conditions of Beijing. We have created a variety of public spaces that directly engage with the city; reinterpreting the traditional urban fabric and contemporary living patterns into a seamless urban landscape inspired by nature. The natural rhythms and flows of the city, of the environment and of the people have been integrated within the design to define its formal composition.

The Construction of Beijing’s Tallest Building Begins.

Construction has started on Beijing‘s tallest skyscraper, set to rise 500 metres and shaped like a vase, the state-owned CITIC group said Tuesday.  The building is the latest in a surge of ambitious construction projects in the Chinese capital, which along with other cities in China is attracting cutting-edge international architects keen to push design boundaries.  A groundbreaking ceremony on the planned 500-metre tall China Zun tower, named after a type of traditional Chinese wine vessel, took place in Beijing Monday.

The state-owned investment giant said the tower would be both its office building and a tourist attraction.  It would feature the latest energy-saving technology, and the top floor would encourage sightseeing from a platform and have a cafe with panoramic views.  Online pictures show a slender glass and steel structure that appears to have an observation platform on the roof and a central atrium at the top of the building.  It will be built just a stone’s throw from the 330-metre-tall China World Trade Center Tower 3 (pictured below), Beijing’s current tallest building.

My Top 30 Memories.

The 2002, December 4th Eclipse.

I was thinking recently about my future, and later on in life how I would describe world changing events of my past to my children as I experienced them.  We’ve all heard that a picture says 1,000 words, which in most cases is 100% true, so I dug up some collections of pictures and was able to comprise a set of 30 photos that exemplify some of the most important memories spanning the last decade or so.  The photos aren’t in chronological order (they’re a bit boring when arranged that way), and this isn’t every major event that’s happened since 2000, just the ones that I remember the most. Check the method below, and if you remember any of these events, let me know what you think, and your opinion of the pictures that represent them.  I’m extremely curious to hear what people have to say.
