Ayo… Wendy’s Got Beef?

Beef has long been almost essential an element of hip-hop as the it is to the fast food business but now, the two meanings have merged thanks to an inexplicable, yet ridiculously entertaining mixtape from none other than Wendy’s. That’s right, Wendy’s, the burger joint, the one that’s near-constantly bucking shots at their fry-slinging rivals on Twitter; they’ve taken all that Twitter beef, mashed down into a patty, and served up a hot, fresh helping of surprisingly deft lyrical goodness with We Beefin’?, and it’s honestly, pretty darn good.

Meanwhile… Back At Drake’s House (Back to Back).

Drake-Angry-Philip-Seymour-Hoffman-Gets-His-Rolling-Stone-Cover

I was having a conversation earlier in the week with my good friend and producer Masna, about Drake’s semi-response to Meek Mills’ accusations of Drizzy’s lyrics on Meeks album being ghost written. I personally thought his first response was a bit soft served. A rapper who built a career around “Diss me, and you’ll never hear a reply for it.” finally straight up disses someone one, but it was only a few subliminal bars that rang through on a mellow “not addressing the subject” feel.  What I told Manni is that Drake should have come full force in his response, a blistering rebutle of indictments oozing with ferocity… And then he did. Take a listen to October’s Very Own’s second diss track titled “Back to Back” and sound off on what you think.

Bernard Lahousse | Science of Food Pairing

As both a bio-engineer and gastronomoic scientist, Bernard Lahousse is seen as one of the world’s foremost food innovators. At WHAT DESIGN CAN DO! 2014, the Belgian founder of foodpairing.com offered his scientific expertise on the topic of experimental eating, how he designs with tastes, and the ways in which the intersection of food and chemistry can lead to both palpable and visual excellence. The methodology lahousse has developed is called ‘foodpairing’ and builds on the principle that seemingly disparate ingredients combine well with one another when they share flavor components. For example: coffee, strawberries and asparagus make an excellent combination, since vanilla is the primary essence in all three. The way our palates experience flavor is much more complex than taste alone. in fact, it is influenced primarily through the interaction between the senses. Of these our ability to smell is responsible for about 80% of our perception of taste, beckoning the question ‘how important is our nose and how does that influence the food and combinations we like?’ In 2007, lahousse began the interactive website foodpairing.com, a food-tech company at the cutting edge of gastronomy, computational science and digital advertising. It operates as one of the world’s largest ingredient and flavor databases with a series of unique algorithms capable of calculating combinations and fully novel recipes. In addition to offering pre-determined experimental concoctions, the site engages the visitor with easy-to-follow graphics, known as ‘trees’, with branches of foods that share basic aroma and odor profiles on a molecular level. the purpose is to inspire both chefs and anyone interested in cuisine to experiment with new combinations and ideas.

Check CNN’s Documentary On The Clipse.

diana-levine-the-clipse-31

CNN covers a mini documentary on Clipse, the renowned Virginia Beach hip-hop duo comprising real-life brothers Pusha T and No Malice. Despite a small glimmer of hope earlier this year, the future of Clipse has become increasingly uncertain, as No Malice has repeatedly expressed a disinterest in any further collaborations with his brother. CNN reporter Bill Weir offers a in-depth look into the brother’s current relationship and differing ideologies (No Malice recently became a born-again Christian). In fact, not once during the entire segment do the two brothers appear on camera together.

French Montana stopped by Hot 97’s Angie Martinez Show to discuss some of his upcoming work and to talk about the recent twitter beef he and 50 Cent have been indulging in.

Gucci Mane’s Diss To Young Jeezy – Truth.

After releasing his new Young Jeezy diss track ‘Truth’ recently, Gucci Mane follows it up with some visuals. He has also brought T.I. and Slick Pulla into this, saying they can both get it. Alley Boy has also jumped in the beef, saying he is going to run Young Jeezy out of Atlanta. According to Lil Lody, a response from Jeezy featuring Lil Boosie is coming soon.

Pusha T’s Funkmaster Flex Freestyle.

On Wednesday, the temperature in New York City touched the 90-degree mark on the same day Pusha T trekked up to Hot 97 to dish out heat of a different kind when he announced G.O.O.D. Music’s Cruel Summer album will be released August 7.  That wasn’t all the Virginia lyricist spoke about, however: While the rap world has been buzzing for weeks about a Pusha/Lil Wayne rap battle, the Clipse spitter opened up for the first time on the subject with DJ Funk Master Flex. While Lil Wayne and an army of bloodthirsty rap fans speculated Pusha’s “Exodus 23:1″contained veiled disses for Weezy and Drake, the “My God” MC challenged Flex to point out the offending references. “I’ve never seen one record that didn’t say a name cause so much of a firestorm,” he argued.  Aside from airing out the beef, Pusha sat down with Flex and delivered quite the spirited freestyle for the fans.

How DJ Peter Rosenberg REALLY Feels About Nicki Minaj’s ‘Starships’.

Peter Rosenberg’s diss of Nicki Minaj’s “Starships” has been all over the news the last couple of weeks. Watch the video above where he makes fun of himself and the song to hopefully clear some of the tension.

Pusha T. – Exodus 23:1.

Beef between rappers often looked upon as cliche’ or a bad publicity stunt.  But when there’s an even keel between the artists on both sides, things for hardcore fans can become a bit exciting.  Lord knows what really started the now simmering beef between Pusha T. and Lil Wayne, but Pusha seems to be taking it quite seriously with his new video for Exodus 23:1.  In the video which many people speculate is a shot at Dwayne Carter, there’s an abundance of drug use, (most likely in reference to some of Weezy’s recreational habits), and there is even a Lil Wayne semi-look-alike in parts of the video.  Check the method below.

As I posted up the other day, this little war of words isn’t one sided.  Weezy dropped the track ‘Goulish’, possibly in response to Exodus 23:1, definitely directed at Pusha T.  Click the media player below to listen.

Lil Wayne vs. Pusha T.

Drake: “Are you sure you wanna diss him?”

In my community, the barber shop is normally a place where men go, and engage in conversation about whatever, and over at my boy Q’s place, discussions about the rap game are as common as hair on the floor.  Lil Wayne and Pusha T are both miraculous lyricists, but its a well known fact that Lil Wayne doesn’t normally engage in beef.  Today however, I got an earfull of Weezy taking a wide open shot at Pusha in a new freestyle above.  Below is another new release from Lil Tunchi incase you’re not interested in the beef.

Common And Drake Squash The Beef?

With the Grammy’s occuring last night, a few devout Hip Hop heads noticed that both Common and Drake were both in attendance.  After Common’s repeated Drizzy disses, Drake simply said at a concert that Common should try and “say it to [his] mutha f*ckin face”.  The Grammys were certainly an opportunity for the two to come face to face, but instead, Common spoke to a drunken Toure’ (from Fuse TV) and seemed to squash the beef.   (A friend pointed out that after Common’s album was released, and he had to see Drake in person, he squashed the beef in a timely manner.)  But it’s a good things to see two emcees ending a feud that ultimately amounted to nothing but a few memorable songs and people talking sh*t.

As much as some would love to stop hearing about it (… like myself), word on the street is that the duo met coincidentally back stage, and got into some type of scuffle.  The police were called in to break up the confrontation, and before both parties left the building, it happened a second time.  Now, this is all rumors as of now, and I hate reporting on rumors, no matter what the topic, but if it’s true, I know people would love to know exactly what went on.

Common’s Interview Discussing His Fued With Drake.

In the Rap game, there will always be beefs and feuds.  But a very puzzling one came blairing onto the radio and the web about a month ago.  Common and Drake seem to be in full swing on a beef that no one expected.  After some shots directly to Drizzy, Common sat down with Hip Hop Nation to discuss how everything got started.  Listen to the interview below.

Even one of my favorite rappers Grafh said it the best, “I like Common, I like Drake… (wait) I like veggie-patties, and I like steak.  Both them n*ggas different, I don’t wanna see ’em riffin, I’mma fan, I just wanna see ’em spittin.  I just wanna see black people eatin’, I just wanna see the dishes.”  And I totally agree.  I don’t understand why they can’t both just get along?

Prodigy Of Mobb Deep Talk Beef With Jay-Z, Tupac, & Saigon.

Hot 97 is known for having some pretty revealing interviews that people listen to for years afterwards, and the interview with Prodigy of Mobb Deep is no different.  I’ve been a fan of the M.O.B.B. for a long time, but I had no idea about Prodigy’s run-ins with Jay-Z, Pac or Saigon.  Check the video below to hear what he had to say.

Lil Wayne Taking Shots At Jay-Z?

Click the pic to listen.

Weezy’s Carter IV album has prematurely leaked and the song ‘It’s Good’ is already creating a lot of noise due to Lil Wayne’s shots at Jay-z.  On Jay-Z and Kanye’s track ‘H.A.M.,’ Jay said ‘You got Baby Money.’ Now it looks like Lil Wayne is firing back with the lines:

Talkin’ ‘bout baby money, I gotcha baby money
Kidnap your bitch get that how much you love your lady money
I know you fake, nigga Press your brakes, nigga
I’ll take you out, that’s a date, nigga
I’m a grown ass blood, stop playing with me
Play asshole, and get an ass whippin’
I think you pussycat, hello kitty.

Drake and Jadakiss are also featured and the track and ‘kiss wants you to make sure he wasn’t aware of the diss:

Brand New Drake Interview.

Drake did a (pre NBA finals), interview with ‘Headkrack’ about his sophomore album set to drop soon.  In the interview he discussed the new sound of his album, the direction its going, and what his inspirations are musically.  At on point of the interview, he did give his predictions about the now concluded NBA playoffs, and although he may have been wrong about LeBron getting his ring… the interview itself is still very much worth a watch.  Check the method below.

Chris Brown’s Cousins Chase Down Frank Ocean.

I do my best not to help stimulate hip hop beef, or draw too much attention to it on the blog… BUT this one was a little too much for me to ignore.  Odd Future’s own Frank Ocean went off on Chris brown for seemingly no reason recently on twitter after Chris Brown complimented him.  What ensued was a back and forth between Brown, Tyler The Creator, and Frank Ocean that was eventually broken up by none other than The Game (random.)  But although the argument may have ended there, I’m getting the feeling things are just heating up.  More below.

Now, I have to admit, that Chris Brown doesn’t exactly strike me as the most gangsta of the child star R&B singers on the planet, however, this doesn’t mean that his family won’t go hard.  From the description of a video that surfaced recently, Frank Ocean allegedly ran after being confronted by Chris Brown.  But weather that’s true or not remains to be seen.  What the video actually shows however is Frank Ocean driving away from who are reported to be Chris Browns cousin.  TO ME, by the looks of things in the video combined with  knowing a bit of background on the Odd Future crew, I don’t think this is the end of it at all.  And who knows, if this is the next hip hop beef to spill over from word to action, Chris Brown may have the upper hand… he messed Robyn pretty bad.

B.O.B. vs. Tyler The Creator?

Although I don’t have a personal opinion on the matter, I know that not everyone is amused by the antics of Odd Future’s Tyler, the Creator.  B.o.B took aim at the upstart on Friday (March 25) with a fiery dis track titled “No Future,” a response to a line the California rapper issued on his breakout “Yonkers.”

“What you think of Hayley Williams?/ F— her, Wolf Haley robbing ’em,” “I’ll crash that f—ing airplane that that f—-t n—a B.o.B is in/ And stab Bruno Mars in his goddamn esophagus.”

The line is characteristic of Tyler and his crew’s shocking rhymes; the collective are, in part, inspired by Eminem and works like his Relapse album with its slew of serial-killer references.  The “Airplanes” star, however, isn’t a fan.

“If I was you I would be a little more cautious,” Bobby Ray raps on “No Future.” “I’m way too high for you to look at/ The future ain’t looking promising for these rookies/ This is target practice but I don’t even pull the f—ing trigger anymore, ’cause it’s just a waste of bullets/ Come and get this pu—, wipe them off the floor/ I’m guessing they was hoping for some different results/ I’m guessing they was guessing ’cause they wasn’t really sure/ But f— it, I guess I’mma have to let these n—-s know.  Keep f—ing with me, you ain’t gon have no future,”

Tyler responded via Twitter. Perhaps taking the high road after driving too close to the edge, the 20-year-old wrote that he didn’t think “No Future” was a dis track. He even gave B.o.B props on the rhyme.  “Whoa,” he wrote in his first message. “I don’t think the ‘No Future’ song is even a diss. But I’ve never heard him spit like that. Took me by surprise, cus it’s tight.”  A second message took a swipe at producer Alex Da Kid over “Airplanes” and “Love the Way You Lie” sounding too similar.

Nicki Minaj – Tragedy. (Lil Kim Diss)

Click the pic to hear the track.

The beef between Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim is nothing new, and it’s toned down since the realization that Nicki never fired back at Lil Kim.  But Minaj recently dropped the 1 minute track titled “Tragedy” in what seems like a response to Kim’s multiple dis tracks.  Those are the facts, but in my personal opinion, Minaj’s 1 minute destroyed all of Kim’s previous attempts.  At one point, Minaj spits the lyrics “First name Ann, last name RAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaGEDY” and the delivery alone was enough to have my boys and I cracking up.  Click the pic to hear Nicki’s alleged response.

50, Back At It Again.

After his recent “beef” with World Star Hip Hop, and the ensuing video of him blasting the f*ck off, ’50 Cent called into Shade 45 today during G-Unit Saturday and the he was hitting all moving targets.  DJ Whoo Kid must have known what was coming because he dipped out the back of the building right before 50 called in.  But Nelson and Young Jack Thriller got jabbed lightly, as 50 told Nelson he needs to lay off the mayonnaise sandwiches, and talked about Jack doing cocaine out of his glass eye.  The only person the G-Unit General didn’t mess with was Mimi. Fif keeps it cool with the ladies despite what you might have heard about a twitter incident with Ciara yesterday.  50 had so many projects he’s working on, it almost seems like he never sleeps. His new Sleek By 50 headphones, his acting career, the new eye wear by Gunnar to name a few. But he did acknowledge he has a strong team around him that helps to keep things running smoothly.  The Nicki Minaj vs Lil Kim beef has some people picking sides. Fif weighed in on the situation.  “There’s only two girls … it’s just about creating a sound from Kim’s perspective,” 50 said. “When I look at then actually competing I think it’s harmless. They add interesting stories because Kim is the original and Nicki is right now.”  He also confirmed his new album is almost done, although he wouldn’t reveal the name of it just yet.  Much has been made of 50’s dramatic weight loss for his role in the movie ‘Things Fall Apart’, which has helped generate a lot of interest in the project. The Cheetah Vision Films boss revealed the public will get a chance to see it soon.  “Things Fall Apart will actually premier March 5 in the Miami Film Festival,” 50 said.  Peep the rest of this great interview below. 50 talks about putting his beef with Cam’ron to bed, his expectations for G-Note Records 1st artist Governor and Hot Rod and chopping it up with Hugh Hefner.’

Roman’s Revenge Remix, and Lil Kim’s Interview.

Click the pic to hear the remix.

About a week ago I heard a snippet from Nicki Minaj’s remix of “Roman’s Revenge” featuring Busta Rhymes and was quite excited to hear the finished product. As I’m sure everyone is aware already, “Roman’s Revenge” is one of the tracks that started the now rampant beef between Minaj and Lil Kim. Although Busta says nothing that could possibly be interpreted as hate toward Kim, Nicki’s verses remain the same, and I’m sure Lil Kim is not too pleased with the re-envigoration the track has received since the release of this new version. Busta’s style, although a bit wild, fits the track perfectly and re-iterates the point that the chorus of the original track was taken from a line in an old Busta song. And even though Kim has yet to put out a second diss track (The first being “Black Friday”) she was on New York’s Hot 97 in an interview with Angie Martinez mocking Minaj. Click the pic to hear the remix and check the method below to see the interview with Lil Kim.

Diddy Speaks on Lil Kim & Nicki Minaj.

So its a pretty widely known fact that Ms. Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim are engaged in a lyrical tiff. In her most recent release on the matter, Lil Kim may have had a line about feelings on Diddy. Diddy has been working with Minaj which some say is a reason for Kim to be upset. Diddy got on Hot 97 recently to discuss his feelings on the matter with Funk Master Flex, and had some relatively calm and insightful advice on the matter. Check the method below.

Ja Rule vs. 50 Cent STILL Not Over? (Ja Rule To Spend 2 Yrs In Jail)

I couldn’t in all good conscience put this under the “Music” category, its purely entertainment, But Ja Rule will face two years in prison after pleading guilty to gun charges on Monday, according to a Manhattan District Attorney statement.
The 34-year-old MC faced one second-degree weapons charge after he was found with a loaded firearm on New York’s Upper West Side in July 2007, the statement said.  Ja Rule will also be registered as a gun offender.  “Despite having some of the strongest anti-gun laws in the nation, gun violence continues to plague this city,” District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said. “Gun crimes are serious offenses, and today’s guilty plea should send a serious message to anyone thinking of illegally bringing a gun into New York City.”  Now for your entertainment, here’s the exchange of tweets between 50 Cent and Ja Rule which I found to be all too hilarious.

Ja Rule/50 Cent
