#StandWithHer, The Essie Justice Movement.

With the rising rates of incarceration, not only in the Bay Area, but in the U.S. overall, many more people are beginning to feel the squeeze of mass incarceration.  Those who have incarcerated loved ones may rarely be the focus of sympathy when someone is locked up, but families, and specifically women in those families get hit hard. These women are left to manage finances, care for children and hold families together, often at an enormous personal cost. Essie Justice Group will build a movement to support and connect women, and empower them to advocate for change in the justice system. The Essie group has set up the non-profit #StandWithHer program in order to provide support for women in these situations.

The Gold Blooded Warriors.

golden-state-warriors-playoffs-denver-nuggetsThe Golden State Warriors have been on a war path since the start of the 2015 season, which has now culminated to a trip to the NBA Finals.  The city of Cleveland hasn’t won a professional sports championship since 1964 (or a year before Golden State coach Steve Kerr was born).  With Curry as their MVP they had the momentum to get into the post season, and the added depth in the entire team provided by their supporting players, these NBA Finals will be one to remember.  There’s nothing like an entire region getting behind their team to help boost the confidence, and I’m sure the Warriors will appreciate 99.7 Now’s Shan Berries tribute to her team.  The Warriors entire the finals tonight with their first game against the Cleavland Cavaliers, and make sure to share the song ‘Gold Blood’ with your fellow fans.

The New ‘Planet’ Movie Trailer.

A new full-length trailer for this summer’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is here—and it’s not monkeying around. Fueled by vindictive desperation and the inevitability of all-out primate war, it’s the most intense look yet at what is coming in director Matt Reeves’ flick.  The sequel to 2011′s spine-chilling Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn takes place ten years after its predecessor. Check out the brand new trailer below to see what’s changed in this post apocalyptic Bay Area.

Love Letter To The Fog of San Francisco

Tokyo 24 has been one of my favorite groups to work with for quite some time now.  Their unique style, a-typical beats, and non generic lyrics have always kept my interested as a listener.  Recently, their music found its way right up to the top of the ‘Bay Area Sound Check’ contest held by 99.7 Now in the Bay.  As if the musical prowess of Tokyo 24 wasn’t enough to get my vote, NhT’s own A.Mo is also featured on the track.  ‘Taste Of Love’ is fresh off the EP “Aeonian Complex” released in the last quarter of 2011.  You can hear the track above, and click the pic to cast your vote for Tokyo 24.

Tequila Alquimia.

It’s quite a well known fact amongst my closest friends and colleagues that I’m somewhat of a tequila connoisseur.  It’s also quite a well circulated myth that all I drink is Jose Cuervo, but I wanted to lay that one to rest right now.  After a night out with a few friends, I was introduced to the wonders of Tequila Alquimia, and I’ve been raving about it ever since.  Based primarily in southern California, Alquimia has won multiple awards including #1 on GQ’s hot tequila list, and is made from only the finest organic blue agave.  I know the concept of organic tequila might seem a little strange to some people, but hey… I try to be as healthy as possible.  Hopefully in the future they’ll expand past California, so I can grab a bottle no matter where in the world I grab a drink.  You can check more about Alquimia, their assortment of flavors, and other info at

The Ear Peace Records Store.

A few days ago, I was fortunate enough to be taken on a tour of the future Ear-Peace Records store in Berkley, California.  My colleague and good friend Stu Lacero is in the process of opening up what will undoubtedly be one of the shining gems among the local businesses in Berkley.  The store features a massive graffiti mural, a floating stage, and  spaces for artists to come in and work on pieces live.  One of the first things Stu showed me was the space on the floating stage for the DJ booth.  (So rest assured I will be eating, sleeping and working in the store quite a bit), and the layout for the records, clothes, and merchandise he plans to sell.  I’ve been excited for a while now to see what the store will look like when it’s finished, but after seeing the work in progress, I know the final product will be incredible.
