Have You Ever Had A Floating Drink?

We almost chose not to blog this incredible creation from Nikola Zistakis, simply because the staff wanted them for themselves, but we chose not to be selfish.  If holding a fancy glass of bourbon scotch wasn’t classy enough, the Levitating Cup makes The act of drinking even cooler. The cup/glass hovers magically over its base, almost as if it’s attained nirvana, or is being abducted by aliens.

Using quantum levitation to achieve this feat, the cups are made from shatter-proof faux glass and come with chrome plated magnetic underside. The glasses/cups come in great variety, depending on whether you’re a juice, beer, coffee, wine, or even a dessert person. Plus, since these glasses are connected to their bases through a magnetic field, they don’t accidentally tip or spill over. They just pirouette around on spot in their own elegant style.  To pick up some of your own right here.

The Incredible Final ‘Star Wars: Rouge One’ Trailer.

rogueone-astarwarsstory

The action-packed final trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is here, and it features plenty of exciting new footage from the Gareth Edwards-directed prequel.  We get our first proper look at Mads Mikkelsen as Galen Erso, more of Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera, and of course another glimpse of the returning man in black, Darth Vader.

What It Looks Like When André Josselin Takes A Trip To Chicago. (Pt.2)

Not too long ago, there was a post about German photographer André Josselin‘s photos during his trip to Lollapalooza.  There were so many photos we couldn’t put them all into one post, so in part 2, we’re going to pick up right where we left off.  Once again you can tell by the rest of his collection how incredibly talented of a photographer he is.

John Wick 2: Morpheus Is Fighting Neo!

the-matrix-9771

Everyone who’s seen The Matrix remembers the classic scene where Mouse runs into the galley of the Nebuchadnezzar, and shouts to the crew “Morpheus is fighting Neo!”.  I had that level of excitement when I saw the first teaser trailer for John Wick: Chapter 2, and for very good reason.  This second installment see’s Keanu Reeves as John Wick traveling the globe, getting into a western style shoot out with Common, and coming face to face in a stand off with his old friend Laurence Fishburne. Check the trailer below.

The Roland 909 DJ Gear.

232553_g3

Roland is to start manufacturing vinyl DJ gear with two new products: the TT-99 turntable and DJ-99 mixer.  Both products have been designed to look like the classic TR-909, with the same grey and orange livery. The reveal follows the announcement of Roland’s revival of the drum machine in compact form, the TR-09.   Apart from the TT-99 looking a lot like a classic Technics SL-1200 with a fancy paint job, there’s not much to distinguish it from other turntables on the market. However, it does have an affordable price point of $349, which puts it on a par with Pioneer DJ’s most recent offering.

roland-909-day-770

Similarly, the DJ-99 is just a simple two-channel mixer, though it is reasonably priced at £249. Apart from a dedicated DVS output for digital DJs, it’s as basic as they come. A release date for both is yet to be confirmed.  The 909-themed gear isn’t the only DJ equipment launched by Roland as part of its 909 Day celebration. The company has also teamed up with Serato on the DJ-808, a combination of DJ controller and drum machine.

Get Your First Look At The New ‘Power Rangers’.

power-rangers-2017-poster-teaser

So it’s a fairly well known fact that the Power Rangers, much like many popular shows/properties is getting a reboot.  This morning we got our first look at the teaser trailer for the official Power Rangers film.  I say official film because last year an amazing UNofficial short film was released, that you can see be clicking here.  While some people were confused as to weather or not the official movie would follow the same path as the fan film, this concern is more than put to bed.  The new trailer seems a bit more like ‘Chronicle’, mixed with a dash of ‘Twilight’.  And although just the word “Twilight” may be off-putting to some, the basic concept of teenagers in a small town some of whom have special abilities is what I’m getting at.  There are some darker aspects to the teaser as well.  Rita Repulsa, the main villain of the piece says the words “I’ve killed other Rangers before”, which is something that was NEVER said in the original series.  “I’ll get you!” was the most common threat used in the original show, and even in the 1995 movie, the threat of death was never really present.  The trailer teases the suits, and has an apparent lack of Zords, however, if you were a Might Morphin Power Rangers fan back in the day, sound off in the comments and let us know how you feel about this reboot.

AM Fremantle has come up with some amazing skateboard designs in the past, but the “Spritz Party” collection is one of the most recent.  AM Fremantle specializes in screen printed skateboards fresh out of Vicenza, Italy that double as works of art.  We’ll definitely have more to show from them down the proverbial road as it were, but check out the ‘Spritz Party’ boards below for now.

What It Looks Like When André Josselin Takes A Trip To Chicago. (Pt.1)

9ddbca41461231-57a74b3e49ed3

German photographer André Josselin out of Hamburg took a trip with friends to the Lollapolooza festival in Chicago.  This unique collection of amazing shots, was beautifully edited, and really brings through the feelings of excitement and allure of not only the city of Chicago, but how good of a time they must have had.  Unfortunately the compendium of photos is so large, we had to split it up into two posts.  Check out André’s work below, and expect to see some of the rest very soon.

How do you make a truly ground-breaking bike? You can’t really pick up innovation from the automobile industry and transpose it on the bike industry. There’s a long way for a bike to go before you can make it “smart” right? I bet Google and Apple haven’t really kicked off smart-bike interactive projects (billion dollar idea, btw… you’re welcome). You could however attempt at making it autonomous. The BMW Motorrad Concept Z explores a road less walked on, or driven on. The Bike design adapts to commute and sport applications, but there’s also a third. The Bike comes with an Autonomous mode, where the rider literally lounges in his/her seat while the bike glides across from A to B. Sounds weird, doesn’t it? Self driving cars sounded weird a decade ago, btw.

Whats The Last Synaesthetic Art Installation You’ve Seen?

Now I know “synaesthetic” may sound like a made up word, but its definition goes as such – Surreal visuals and an engaging soundscape create an immersive space capturing the essence of motion, color and sound to visualize a synaesthetic experience of letting go and losing oneself in the creative process.  This is exactly what “Collide” has managed to do. “Collide” is a site-specific installation commissioned by Dolby Laboratories in San Francisco.  It is an interesting exploration of the senses by transforming recorded motion data into abstract visuals and sound. By mixing, reversing and eliminating restrictions of time and space, a new vision of the human body and mind is discovered. The work is a multisensory experience exploring the subjects from an emotional perspective, examining the feeling of being immersed in the creative process and attentive to the present moment as the senses combine and become one.

“Collide” was inspired by the phenomenon of synaesthesia, the union of senses. The digital art installation combines original chamber music and painterly visuals to reinterpret recorded motion data and act as a conductor for the musical score composed for the installation.  The 62-foot long digital ribbon screen situated in the lobby of Dolby Laboratories, acts as a window into a dream-like and abstract creative world. Ephemeral figures emerge out of a colourful void and fade into a surreal environment where movements appear in an abstract landscape of shape and colour. Using the onsite 54-channel speaker system, sound travels through the space, immersing visitors as they become part of the experience.

Following the inspiration of a collision of senses, visuals of the piece have a core influence of the composition and performance of the music. Stemming from a curiosity of an experience in virtual reality that affects the physical world, a soundscape was created using virtual reality as a compositional tool and source of inspiration.  To record the composition for the soundscape, a trio of cellists wore virtual reality goggles to immerse themselves in the abstract visual world of “Collide”. The musicians played the compositions written for the piece while the animations took the role of conductor. The animations provided visual inspiration for the musical score by dictating dynamism, intensity, rhythm as well as melodic figures. By separating the visual and acoustic reality, the players were isolated in different visual worlds while playing in the same physical room. Visually they were separated by the format of the animations but were connected by the collective sound audible in the room in that moment to create a new format for compositional performance.
