Rain Shield

Imagine getting soaked by a car-splash, on your way to work or an important meeting. The Rain Shield offers a shield-like umbrella and is crafted with a single curved steel wire and a telescopic rod. It has no pointed ends or sharp edges, and it won’t blow inside out in windy conditions.  Designer Liu Li-Hsiang demonstrates how this umbrella easily folds and compresses into a 180-millimetre-diameter disc that can be stored in a bag. Have a look at the video and judge for yourself. Designers were Lin Min-Wei & Liu Li-Hsiang.

Seung Mo Park

South Korean artist Seung Mo Park created a stunning series of giant portraits made with layers of wire mesh. The piece above is known as Maya. It was the third phase in a trajectory of Park’s conceptual works dealing with reality, illusion, and existence. Barely possessing materiality of sculpture, or the ideas within them, the idea and conceptualization of MAYA is far from tangible substances.

Li Wei’s Impossible Photos.

Li Wei, a contemporary artist from Beijing China, has been taking self portraits to new heights… literally.  His gravity defying photos have been mesmerizing the world, capturing impossible looking moments of apparent extreme danger.  You’ll find Wei hanging on in dangerous situations, or crashing head on into sidewalks and cars.  Li Wei states that these images are not computer montages and that he works with the help of props such as mirrors, metal wires, scaffolding and acrobatics. He then removes the wires and scaffolding with Photoshop to create these seemingly impossible photos.  “My artistic language is universal and deals with themes about contemporary politics and society using symbols understood by everyone in every part of the world. I am fascinated by the unstable and dangerous sides of art…”  Here’s a collection of some of Wei’s most outstanding photos (including what seems to be his signature “missle in the ground” pose), in a unique combination of artistry and acrobatics that are sure to make you take a second look.

Bent Objects.

Burning The Candle At Both Ends.

When it comes to photography, I can always appreciate  concept, design, composition, lighting, or any other aspect that makes a good picture a good picture, but when it comes to just plain being clever, Bent Objects takes the cake.  Its so funny that some simple wires can drastically change the context of everything in the picture.  Check the extremely inventive and quite hilarious photos from Bent Objects.
