Are You Afraid Of The Dark?

Click here to watch the trailer.

No, this has nothing to do with the classic 1990′s TV show… This is more about Guillermo del Toro’s new horror film ‘Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark’.  I saw the trailer and was very intrigued not just by the story, but by the creepy little details in the sneak peek.  Every little sound, whisper, creak, and groan is brought out perfectly to match the dark shadowy visuals, and even the text in the preview is eerily illuminated.  So weather you like the trailer because you love scary movies, or you admire the devil in the details, click the pic to check the method.  (The film’s synopsis is below.)

Guillermo del Toro presents DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, a horror film starring Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce and Bailee Madison, directed by Troy Nixey. Based on the 1973 telefilm that del Toro believes is the scariest TV production ever made, the story follows Sally (Madison), a young girl who moves to Rhode Island to live with her father (Pearce) and his new girlfriend (Holmes) in the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. While exploring the house, Sally starts to hear voices coming from creatures in the basement whose hidden agenda is to claim her as one of their own. Akin to del Toro’s PAN’S LABYRINTH, DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK focuses on a young girl’s struggle against menacing and terrifying forces. FilmDistrict will release the film on August 26th.

Cartier Time Art.

Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka has collaborated with Cartier to bring a traveling exhibition called “Cartier Time Art”.  Cartier Time Art is an exhibition that will take visitors “on a journey to the heart of Cartier watchmaking.”  The exhibition unites the largest number of Cartier timepieces ever displayed in public, from its origins through to the present day.

The unique journey offered by the exhibition begins in 1874, displaying 158 vintage pieces from Cartier collection.  Introducing twelve movements and seventeen Fine Watchmaking timepieces, the journey finishes in the present day with the ID-One watch, a concept timepiece which offers a glimpse into the watchmaking future at Cartier.  It will be held at Bellerive Museum, Ein Haus des Museum für Gestaltung Zürich from Friday, August 26 to Sunday, November 6, 2011.

The Dark Knight Rises Trailer.

There have been quite a few epic, and captivating franchises in my lifetime.  Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The Matrix Trilogy, The Step Up franchise (JUST KIDDING).  But the new Batman series however, is no joke.  The new trailer premiered before The Deathly Hallows Pt. 2, and had tons of people talking.  The new trailer features shots of Commissioner Gordon a bit beat up, and talking to Bruce Wayne, as well as a shot of The Dark Knight himself getting WORKED by Bane (above).  To see the new trailer, go to the ‘Dark Knight Rises’ website by clicking here.

Nicki Minaj on E.

Last night, (unbeknownst to me) there was a special playing about Nicki Minaj, and her life both before and during stardom.  The program on E featured testimony from Nicki’s mother, father, and everyone down to her 5th grade teacher and Lil Tunchi himself.  To be 100% honest, I’m not sure how long these video’s will exist on YouTube, but if the links fail, I’ll do my best to replace them.  But before that happens, check out the E tv story on Nicki Minaj.

A Rap Freestyle Battle Translated.

I’ve been involved in some pretty ridiculous conversations in the past, but one of the best in recent memory was trying to explain to someone what the point of freestyle battling was.  My friends and I tried to explain to a colleague that the art of matching wits with a competitor intellectually was something that other cultures have done for years.  The killer was that we found a skit on Funny or Die of what a Rap Battle might sound like if were translated for the general public.  Regardless of the tags on the video, the original battle is between Dose and Math Hoffa from S.M.A.C.K. DVD.  But the translated version is hilarious none the less.

Young Jeezy ft. Lil Wayne – Ballin (Official Video)

A few weeks back, I was excited to post up the behind the scenes video of Young Jeezy and Lil Wayne’s new collab, ‘Ballin’.  I was extra excited to see what the finished product would look like, because there was a scene with Jeezy in some sort of red cave that looked a bit peculiar.  But all in all seeing the completed video, I get the vibe they were going for.  And I also couldn’t help loving Jeezy’s line in the song “So much bread on me I could buy a Jersey home.”  Check the method below.

Frederique Constant Runabout Moonphase Watch.

After my recent trip to my boy’s lake house on Lake Almanore, I’ve been obsessed with boating.  So when I found this watch from Frédérique Constant, I felt like I needed it. Since 2009, Swiss watch Manufacturer Frédérique Constant celebrates the legendary Runabout yachts of the roaring 20s by offering an attractive series of limited edition timepieces named “Runabout”.  To complete the best-selling range, the Geneva-based brand this year introduces a new version: the Runabout Moonphase.  Absolutely magnificent through its stunning design, this model is available in a limited quantity of just 1’888 pieces per material.  Featuring a case diameter of 43mm and presented in stainless steel or rose gold plated, the new Runabout Moonphase watches offer finely decorated silvered dials.  Traditionally, each Runabout timepiece comes with its own luxurious, handmade wooden case that echoes the passionate craftsmanship of the yachts.  Alongside the watch, a miniature reproduction of a classic Runabout boat can be found inside the unique gift box.

The Breguet Reveil Musical Watch.

Breguet has unveiled a new one-of-a-kind Reveil Musical watch, created specially for Only Watch 2011. It enchants the audience with a unique tune, “Castle in the sky”, played on demand or at a pre-set time.  The new Breguet watch boasts a round-shaped 48mm case in 18-carat white gold. The case-band is engraved with a musical stave.  The model reveals rounded and soldered lugs as well as screw-secured spring-bars. Its back side is engraved with the “Piece Unique” inscription.  Inside the timepiece is hidden an automatic mechanical cal. 0900 movement. It is numbered and marked with the Breguet signature. The mechanism incorporates a silicon escape-wheel and a lever as well as a Breguet balance spring.  Adorned with 59 jewels, the caliber operates at a frequency of 4Hz and offers a 55-hour power reserve.  The new Breguet Reveil Musical watch strikes the eye with a rotating hand-guilloched dial.  It depicts a child whose hand is reaching out to an adult hand, a symbolic gesture of the “inter-generational solidarity and support for research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy”, according to Breguet.

RGLND – Vision.

I’ve been fortunate enough to work some incredibly talented artists over the course of my career, weather they’ve been developing, or known world wide.  It’s very rewarding to be able to see someone you’ve worked with release a dope project, and Mr. Ragland is a perfect example.  One of my closest friends produced a mixtape cover for Ragland’s project “Supreme Sketch” a while back, and left the CD at my house.  When I listened to it, I had no idea who the artist was, and as fate would have it, a few weeks later we were recording together.  Since then I’ve grown to be a huge fan of RGLND’s work, especially the track ‘Vision’.  Check the official video below.

Chris Brown’s Cousins Chase Down Frank Ocean.

I do my best not to help stimulate hip hop beef, or draw too much attention to it on the blog… BUT this one was a little too much for me to ignore.  Odd Future’s own Frank Ocean went off on Chris brown for seemingly no reason recently on twitter after Chris Brown complimented him.  What ensued was a back and forth between Brown, Tyler The Creator, and Frank Ocean that was eventually broken up by none other than The Game (random.)  But although the argument may have ended there, I’m getting the feeling things are just heating up.  More below.

Now, I have to admit, that Chris Brown doesn’t exactly strike me as the most gangsta of the child star R&B singers on the planet, however, this doesn’t mean that his family won’t go hard.  From the description of a video that surfaced recently, Frank Ocean allegedly ran after being confronted by Chris Brown.  But weather that’s true or not remains to be seen.  What the video actually shows however is Frank Ocean driving away from who are reported to be Chris Browns cousin.  TO ME, by the looks of things in the video combined with  knowing a bit of background on the Odd Future crew, I don’t think this is the end of it at all.  And who knows, if this is the next hip hop beef to spill over from word to action, Chris Brown may have the upper hand… he messed Robyn pretty bad.

The ‘Space Invaders’ Watch.

Just a few months ago Romain Jerome announced a licensing deal authorizing the manufacture of a Space Invaders-themed timepieces–and now they have arrived.  In a nod to 1980’s pop culture, Romain Jerome has introduced two 78-piece limited edition watches featuring the iconic Space Invaders characters on the dial.  Taito Corp. created Space Invaders in 1978 and is also known as the developer of Arkanoid, another popular favorite video game from these times.

The two 78-piece limited series of the RJ-Romain Jerome Space Invader watches are distinguished by their dial.  The latter is composed of three layers of pixelated and shotpeened dies featuring hand-drawn file strokes.  The 3.5 mm-sized Space Invaders are lacquered in different colours (“day” version) or coated with Superluminova (“night” version), each individually machined and hand-applied.

Samuel L. Jackon’s Bedtime Story.

For some people, putting their children down to rest is a precious, heart warming, bonding moment they look forward to.  It can be a time when a child looks to their parent for comfort and protection, in the uncertainty of the night, or after the turmoil of a haphazard day.  For other parents however, bedtime is simply a time when they clock out of their parental job, and they just need their little to one to go the f*ck to sleep for a few hours.  Adam Mansbach’s book “Go The F*ck To Sleep” is almost a perfect blend between the two extremes of being sweet, nurturing, and totally fed up with your child.  Now for the epic twist… It’s narrated by Samuel L. Jackson himself.  Click the pic to listen. (via BuzzFeed)

The Louis Vuitton ‘Only Watch’.

French luxury house Louis Vuitton has released a unique Tambour Diver Chronograph for Only Watch 2011 charity.  It was designed in collaboration with a young boy afflicted with Duchenne muscular dystrophy named Paul Pettavino.  The sporty timepiece is made of black gold, which is white gold that’s been given the old PVD treatment. ‘Only Watch 2011′ is engraved in the back.  The dial details, rotative bezel and bracelet are in orange rubber – which is a favorite color of Paul Pettavino.  The transparent back enables the wearer to see the LJP 8181 movement with column wheel, and the watch is 100 meters water resistant.  The trunk is in Damier Graphite canvas, personalized by Paul Pettavino with a message and a ‘nautical sound’ recorded by Paul himself.  Paul Pettavino also contributed to Louis Vuitton’s Only Watch piece for Only Watch 2007 and Only Watch 2009.  Even for a non-watch-enthusiast, this one’s pretty dope.

Japan Holds The Worlds Most High-Tech Globe.

If you want to see what Earth looks like from space, become an astronaut (or, barring that, a space tourist). For the next best view, pay a visit to Tokyo’s National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation where a massive, nearly 20-foot spherical OLED orb–the world’s first large scale spherical OLED–offers a satellite’s-eye view of the planet in super high resolution.

“Geo-Cosmos” is made up of 10,362 OLED panels that display continuously-updating satellite footage of our tiny blue marble, representing what our planet looks like from space in something close to realtime. It replaces an earlier model covered in LED panels, offering museum-goers a full 10 million pixels, a resolution 10 times greater than its predecessor.

And like any good museum exhibit, Geo-Cosmos is interactive. Touchscreens surrounding the globe allow viewers to tap all kinds of earth science data streaming in from all over the world, like simulations showing the origin of the March 11 earthquake that devastated Japan and the dispersion of all of that energy via tsunamis that reached all the way around the Pacific. See it for yourself below.

Bell Ross Roulette Watch.

Bell & Ross‘s one-off timepiece for the Only Watch auction features a roulette design built on top of their popular BR 01 watch.  This timepiece, done in all 18k pink gold, is a tribute to the country of Monaco which will be hosting the Only Watch auction this upcoming September.  The “0″ number on the roulette wheel indicates the hours (there are 12 little diamonds on the outer edge of the dial for standard timekeeping), the roulette ball indicates the minutes. The roulette spinner which will rotate once every 60 seconds.  The auction will take place in Monte Carlo during the Monaco Yacht Show on September 22th 2011.  The watches will be exhibited in an eight-city tour that includes: Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Milan and Geneva.

Frank Ocean – Novacaine (Official Video).

Everyone has been hearing the hype about one of Hip Hop’s newest contenders Frank Ocean.  When his track Novocaine hit the radio waves, it was an instant hit, and now that the video has dropped today, the songs success, along with Frank’s seems to have no limits.

The Gresso iPhone 4.

Luxury mobile phone manufacturer Gresso, unveiled its new exclusive project, the iPhone4 Time, “designed specifically for people living in the rhythm of world time”.  The iPhone4 Time Machine houses six independent mechanical Swiss watches behind the smartphone’s case protected by a mineral glass with diamond coating.  The 6 clocks display time zones of the world’s business hubs: Tokyo, Moscow, Paris, London, New York and Hong Kong.  Amazingly, Gresso claim that the iPhone 4 Time Machine is only 1mm thicker than a vanilla iPhone 4 (which measures 9.3mm).  The Gresso iPhone 4 Time Machine is coming out “in 2011” and it will set you back $6,000.

Pusha T – Alone In Vegas (Official Video).

Pusha T’s previous two Fear of God videos — “Open Your Eyes” and “Blow” — were heavy on the metaphorical imagery that aimed to provide more insight into the rapper’s wordplay and overall lyrically content. But for “Alone in Vegas,” the direction team of Orson Whales, Shahan Jafri and Alex Germanotta, has turned the track into the soundtrack for a mini-film. It depicts Pusha as a lone crime boss, who not only calls all of the shots but carries them out, too. The vibe is somewhat reminiscent of “Nightmares,” the closing track on Clipse’s Hell Hath No Fury that featured Pusha and Malice at their most paranoid, dark, and isolated.  Pusha’s Fear of God 2: Let Us Pray drops June 21.

Kanye West – Monster (Official Music Video).

Click the pic to watch the video.

The track ‘Monster’ from Kanye West has been all over the radio and in clubs for months now, and has even made it onto the soundtracks of a handful of movies, including “The Hangover: Part II”.  So there’s no doubt it was a force to be reckoned with since it dropped.  But even after all its billboard success, there was never a video released for this monstrous song featuring Jay-Z and Nicki Minaj.  But today that’s all changed.  Click the pic to see the official video of ‘Monster’ by Kanye West… better late than never.

Bow Wow – It’s Goin Down (Official Video)

Since his appearance on Entourage, Bow Wow has really (in the eyes of my boys) stepped out of the stigma of being “lil”, and his music reflects the same.  Since his partnership with YMCMB, he’s put out quite a few freestyles, and tracks that prove he’s no longer to be taken lightly, and ‘It’s Goin Down’ is no exception.  The video is shot very well, with a few little subtle tricks I was impressed by (like Bow Wow driving past a group of girls, and their names popping up above their heads).  But check the method out for yourself below.

Lady Leshurr Freestyle.

I work closely with many different types of musicians, and after spending so much time with some of the best, its rare that I get thoroughly impressed.  But after leaving one of my friends with my computer for too long, he put me up on a video that I’m fairly certain may put other lyricists to shame.  SBTV presents: Lady Leshurr in all her glory, spitting some of the dopest lines I’ve heard a ‘femcee’ spit since KJ.  Although her voice is a bit high pitched, and her accent makes some lyrics hard to hear, nothing can stop her true skill from shining through.  Check the method below.

Busta Rhymes ft LL Cool J – Killin Em.

Click the pic to listen.

I tend to make predictions about songs and their future popularity.  (Some wrong some right)  But I’ve predicted that ‘Look At Me Now’, ’6 Foot 7′, and ‘Back Seat Driver’ would blow up when most of my colleagues said they’d be duds.  And I’m willing to bet that the new track ‘Killin Em’ from Bussa Bus, and LL Cool J will blow up.  Now I may be correct, I may be wrong, but take a listen to the track by clicking the pic, and let me know what you think.

Audemars Piguet x Four Seasons.

Joel Ortiz’s Battle Cry.

Slaughterhouse has been on my radar for quite some time, and since they joined Shady Records along with Yelawolf, I’ve for sure taken notice of all the cogs that make the Slaughterhouse machine move.  Crooked I, Joe Buddens (should out to Jersey, Royce Da 5 9, and Joel Ortiz are stupid-talented artists as a group, and still lethal on their own.  Check out Joel Ortiz’s “Battle Cry” acapella performance.  Check the method below.
