Absolut Tune Packaging Design

Absolut Tune is a sparkling fusion of Absolut vodka and crisp white wine. This champagne like bottle has a very Tord Boontje-esque double layered, flowery pattern to it. The caged cork glass bottle has two layers of plastic on it – one with a gold on blue, and the top layer with a matte/pearly white lined with gold that peels back ever so dramatically.

Korn

Korn is a colorless spirit that is usually made from fermented rye but may also be made from corn, barley, or wheat. Korn differs from vodka in that it is less rigorously filtered, which leaves more cereal taste in the finished spirit. Drunk neat and cold it has a somewhat dubious reputation, because it is the cheapest spirit available in Germany. Nonetheless, it is very popular, especially in the North among farmer and fishermen often to seal a deal. Typically sold in clear glass bottles, a paper-based package might be an unexpected candidate for this spirit, but the delivery format known from milk cartons provocatively nurtures Korn’s reputation, while the simplistic graphics, premium packaging materials and debossed foil stamping relate to the look and feel of top-shelf liquors. Compact and light weight the packaging dramatically reduces the environmental impact during shipping into the Wild West and limits breakage during excessive consumption.

ABSOLUT Launches 4 Million Unique Bottles

In the coming weeks, Absolut Vodka will begin distributing nearly 4 million bottles across the globe. And every one of them will be different. Using a mix of 38 different colors and 51 pattern types, applied through splash guns and color-generating machines, all bottles come out different from each other. The project, called “Absolut Unique,” required a complete re-engineering of the company’s production plant in Sweden, executives said. All the bottles in the Absolut Unique series will be individually numbered.

Stoli Launches A Salted Caramel Vodka.

It comes in ice cream, square, sauce and hot chocolate form, and now the yin and yang flavor pairing of salted caramel is being applied to vodka.  Stolichnaya Premium has launched what they describe as a golden brown caramel spirit “delicately enhanced with salt” in the US, the latest product to be flavored with one of the most popular sweet and savory combinations right now.  Their Salted Karamel vodka was made to be served either on the rocks straight or as a flavoring to mixed drinks — in cocktails like salted banana, Salted Karamel macchiato martini, and salted Tootsie roll.  “Consumers will taste the sweet caramelized sugar and soft English toffee on the mouth, balanced with a light saltiness that draws out the caramel flavoring.”  The new flavor profile was developed in response to a consumer preference for caramel, the second most popular flavor after chocolate, says the company.

Absolut London.

Absolut vodka has launched a limited edition bottle called London in collaboration with one of the UK’s leading graphic artists, Gorillaz’ Jamie Hewlett.  Set against a London backdrop, the bottle introduces key characters from the past who have influenced and shaped London’s present fashion scene.  The seven characters encapsulate the city’s diverse heritage, spanning the ages from Dickensian and 18th Century Dandy, through to Pinstripe gent, 60’s chick, SKA , Punk and 80’s Casual.  To celebrate the launch, ABSOLUT will be offering consumer the chance to buy one of only 50 unique ABSOLUT London collectors gift packs on Facebook.  ABSOLUT London will be launching in-store on 1st March in Selfridges and Harvey Nichols and then to general retailers from 1st April.

Gareth Pugh x Absolut Vodka.

Gareth Pugh has collaborated with Absolut Vodka to create a stunning work of design with the Absolut Vodka Mode Edition.  “I am excited to be collaborating with such an iconic brand as Absolut. I wanted to transform the silhouette of the bottle”, said the English fashion designer.  “By means of a custom made collar, created using 3-D mapping, we have produced a miniature version of my ‘Stealth Bomber’ arm pieces from my first collections.”  The Absolut x Gareth Pugh bottle is available exclusively from W Hotel, London and from Colette in Paris – but according to the pre-order listing online it is sold out.

Samurai…Vodka?

A very interesting vodka bottle design made by Russian designer Artur Shraiber (Артур Шрайбер).  It’s a bit peculiar as to why a Russian would design a Japanese themed bottle, but none the less, the bottle seems like cut in halves with sharp sword of samurai.  And I’m sure the actual vodka is as tasty and delicious as the design.

People around the world have different tastes in alcohol (and different budgets for it), but recently I saw some exquisite examples of how different alcohol companies all over the world display the best of their best.  Its a pretty well known fact that I happen to be quite the alcohol connoisseur myself, and from the subtle to the extravagant, all the different examples I saw, all demonstrate a mastery of packaging design. My personal favorite is the 007 Bottle, but let me know which one strikes you as the leader of the pack.

Absolute Glimmer.

Each year Absolut Vodka produces a limited edition bottle to celebrate the festive season some of which I’ve already put up on the blog.  This year, they’ve created “Absolut Glimmer”.  This limited edition packaging follows in the footsteps of Absolut Bling Bling, Absolut Disco, Absolut Rock Edition, and In An Absolut World Every Night is a Masquerade.

Marking the first time Absolut has changed the shape of its iconic bottle, ABSOLUT GLIMMER has been designed in crystal pattern-shaped glass.  The concept was to make the bottle mimic the look of classically cut crystal and when placed in various light conditions, the bottle will appear differently as it reacts to the light.  A special signature cocktail has also been created for Absolut Glimmer, taking a pure and minimalist approach to showcase the vodka.  That cocktail, Absolut Crystal Clear, is simply Absolut Vodka and sparkling water poured over ice.  ABSOLUT GLIMMER is produced in a series of 4.8 million bottles. It launched globally in the Fall of 2010.

Sophie Black Absolut Vodka.

Not too long ago, I posted up about Absolut Vodka doing a special fathers day bottle, but once again, they’ve outdone themselves.  Absolut recently put out the “Absolut Sophie” mirror – a limited edition collectible designed by Singapore-based illustrator Sokkuan.  Sokkuan was the winner of “In an Absolut World, Every Drink is an Exceptional Experience” installation during Singapore Design Festival 2009.  The dark beauty is executed as a multifaceted mirror boxed in a matching package.  Sokkuan was inspired by the Bloody Mary legend of chanting into a mirror to summon her dark spirit; creating an alter ego Sophie Black (pictured above).

“I adore people and things in harmonious contradictions. Sophie Black, my alter ego who exists in a world of pseudo reality, is the epitome of such paradox.  Playing on the well-known Bloody Mary legend, my design of this multifaceted handheld mirror reflects my fascinations with dark, quirky, mysterious yet beautiful essences exuded by both Bloody Mary and Sophie Black.”

This collaborative piece sparks Absolut’s path to encourage cocktail culture in Singapore and celebrates the opening of a new playing field within the cocktail and creative community.  Exclusively designed and distributed only at selected outlets in Singapore, this limited edition limited quantity handheld mirror is a gift item with every 2 bottles purchase of Absolut Vodka.

Get Dad Drunk This Fathers Day.

Absolut 100 is unveiling luxurious and exclusive limited edition gift bottles released just in time for Father’s Day in Brazil (Aug. 8, 2010).  The vodka brand, has teamed up with three renowned artists to develop a new limited edition line of black bottles to be sold exclusively in São Paulo.  Famed jewelry designer Pedro Brando has created two designs – one with a silver skull pendant on the neck of the bottle and another one with a silver ring ($650).

Stone Bonker’s designer John Henry Cooper created two designs as well, but his versions feature another kind of accessories.  He used a key element of a classical man’s outfit, a tie (made of Italian silk), and bound it around the black bottle’s neck in two different ways ($350).  Finally, we have the bottle design from Optica Ventura. The two bottles comes with big sunglasses and a black case  featuring white inscription “Absolute 100” ($490).

Drunken Art.

A company called Bevshots has produced a series of shots of booze under the microscope at the Florida State University’s chemistry labs.  This is Tequila at 1000x magnification.

Tequila

The process consists of letting a droplet of liquor dry out completely on a slide in an airtight container, and photographing the result with a 35mm camera. The entire process can take up to three months and as many as 200 attempts to properly capture the drink’s constituent parts.  Cocktails can have fruit and soft drinks in them which contain citric acids and complex sugars which dry out well and look great photographed.  The incredible shapes and colours of the boozy artwork are highlighted by shining natural light on top and through the bottom of the slide. Just like images of snowflakes, each drink is different.  Bevshots estimate that they have sold over 20,000 examples of their alcoholic art works.
