Renault Twizy Sport F1 Electric Concept

general 01

Renault represented their latest concept – the Twizy Sport F1 – which was designed to crank up the performance of your average electric car with its kinetic energy recovery system (KERS), similar to that used in its formula 1 race cars. The result is six times the power output — almost 100 horsepower — which pushes the car from 0-62 in the same time as the Renault Mégane Renaultsport 265. As for the exterior, the futuristic Twizy looks like a curious mix between a smart car, lunar rover, and bobcat construction vehicle and features a front splitter, side-pods, rear wing, and a diffuser with an F1-style rain light. This light is controlled with a colorful gamepad-like steering wheel on the inside, which also controls the KERS, radio and rain light.

Toyota i-Road Electric Personal Mobility Vehicle

07 08 09 10

At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show Toyota has introduced the i-ROAD – an electric personal mobility vehicle. Offering greater flexibility in an urban environment, the i-ROAD provides seating in tandem for two users in a pod-like enclosed environment. Its all-electric power-train features a lithium-ion battery – which provides power to a pair of 2 kW electric motors mounted within the front wheels. The EV provides unique, “active lean” technology for a safe, intuitive and enjoyable, helmet-free driving experience for over a range of up to 50 km on a single charge. The system features a lean actuator motor and gearing mounted above the front suspension member, linked via a yoke to the right and left front wheels. An ECU calculates the required lean based on steering angle, gyro-sensor and vehicle speed information. The “active lean” automatically moves the wheels up and down in opposite directions, applying lean angle to counteract the centrifugal force of cornering. Measuring 2,350 mm long and 850 mm wide, the compact three-wheeled PMV’s dimension also makes it possible to park four units in a single car parking bay and allows it to manoeuvre freely through congested traffic.

Rolls Royce Wraith: First Official Image

Rolls-Royce-Wraith

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars published last Tuesday the first official image of its new model Wraith, which will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2013. The BMW-owned luxury car company is being typically vague about what potential owners can expect from the new vehicle, other than that it will do justice to the name Wraith, a powerful V6 Rolls-Royce developed in 1938. Of the new car, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO Rolls-Royce Motor Cars said:

Expect the boldest design, the most dramatic performance and the most powerful Rolls-Royce that has ever played host to the famous Spirit of Ecstasy figurine.

Lexus LF-LC Hybrid Concept

Lexus has unveiled an updated version of its Lexus LF-LC hybrid concept. The biggest change to the design is the new Opal Blue exterior color – according to Lexus, the new shade is inspired by the lustrous color found in semi-precious opal stones in the Australian Outback. The hybrid concept system named Advanced Lexus Hybrid Drive, features an Atkinson cycle engine which is mated to an advanced high-energy battery pack that is designed to deliver greater power from a smaller battery than those currently used in Lexus’ range of hybrid vehicles. Combined, the LF-LC Blue concept’s hybrid powertrain packs 500 horsepower, which is more than any other Lexus hybrid. LF-LC Blue is a preview of what the future may hold for sports cars.

A New Inner City Vehicle.

This creative car concept was created by designer Sean Seongjun Ko. Called “Inner City Vehicle” this car resembles an urban cocoon.  A vehicle in which people can relax and enjoy a comfortable ride, in a ‘classic yet modern’ design that romanticizes the future. The compact 4-seater vehicle fits into the sustainable environment of the future city by using hydrogen fuel cell technology. The design used autonomous technology, and the interior space is very flexible; the seating layout also differs from the usual norm where every passenger faces single direction.

The Worlds Most Expensive Toy Car.

I’m not necessarily into toys, but this one got me…  Hailed the world’s most expensive and precious car model by Guinness World Records, this creation is based on the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4.  The car was crafted by Robert Gülpen — who has also created miniatures of the Mercedes Benz 500 SL and Aston Martin DB5 from precious metals and gems.  The Lamborghini is made from carbon fibre like the original and its shell was milled using computer modelling data handed over from the Italian car manufacturer.  But, adds Gülpen, he wrapped a 1/1000mm thin thread of solid gold around the carbon fibres — a feature the original doesn’t boast.  The tyre rims have been cast from solid gold and platinum as has the entire interior, while diamonds have been inserted into the seat, headlights and steering wheel.  Sotheby’s will auction the car in December in either New York or Dubai with bids starting at $4.7 million.

The Jaguar C-X16 Hybrid Concept.

Jaguar has released new details of a hybrid sports model it is working on as a potential successor to the legendary E-Type.  The new C-X16 two-seater uses a new 3.0-liter V6 engine along with a 70kW hybrid motor and is described as an ‘exploration’ of future performance hybrid options.  Using a combination of gasoline and batteries, the C-X16 offers a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph) and a 0-100 km/h time of 4.4 seconds, with an electric-only top-speed of 50 mph (80 km/h).  The electric motor can also be activated using a steering wheel button for a power boost, inspired by the recently-introduced Formula One KERS system, charged through a brake regeneration system.

The C-X16 picks up on a couple of new Jaguar styling signals such as the front trapezoidal grille, although Jaguar says that it is intended to showcase the evolution of its design direction, with sharp creases on the hood and a sweeping roofline.  Inside, it is finished in ‘vermillion red’ and uses a climate control system which Jaguar says is inspired by the Typhoon fighter jet, with dash-mounted vents that appear from the dash to provide a blast of air as necessary, retracting afterwards.  The model will go on show for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show (september 15-25), where it will compete for attention with the upgraded Porsche 911 Carrera, the Maserati GranCabrio Fendi and the Ferrari 458 Spider.

Rolls Royce – Year Of The Dragon.

Rolls Royce will produce an exclusive suite of modifications in celebration of the Chinese Year of the Dragon, which begins next January.  The new Year of the Dragon Collection has been created in “preparation for this festive celebration… Inspired by the legendary creature that is revered in China.”  The collection features a set of particular details created by Rolls-Royce’s bespoke team that can be installed on its handbuilt vehicles, the popular Phantom and luxury Phantom Extended Wheelbase.  Among the addition is a handpainted dragon coachline on the side of the model and several appearances inside the car, including embroidery on the headrest and on the passenger panel, where the motif will be applied in gold.  The model will also come with exclusive illuminated treadplates on the door seals, with “Year of the Dragon 2012″ highlighted in LED lighting.  Underfoot, customers will be able to choose from a selection of modern or traditional marquetry, and relax on hand-stitched cushions included for the rear passengers.  Rolls-Royce says that its new product “captures the imagination,” but no doubt it will be hoping also to capture more customers in China, now one of the company’s most lucrative markets.  The company said last month that it had seen global sales grow by 64 percent in the first half of this year, with Asia Pacific (led by China) far outstripping the rest of the world — up by over 170 percent.
