general 01 03

If your first thought was “It’s a photo” then you’re totally wrong. These are hyper realistic oil paintings created by Belgium based artist Christiane Vleugels. At the age of twelve, Christiane studied the academy of fine arts and was educated in the art of drawing and sculpting by the inspiring artist Herman Cornelis. Wonderful, stunning and simply beautiful paintings. Each of them unveils a certain aspect of life and inspires people to dream.

Benjaman Kyle’s Million Dot Drawing

A A A

Miguel Endara is a great atrist known for his incredibly realistic dot drawings. One of his art works – a portrait of Benjamin Kyle – is an attempt to support a man who can not get the help from the state. Benjamin Kyle now on the lips of Americans, eight years ago a man was found unconscious behind a Burger King dumpster with no belongings, no ID and no memory of who he was. At the hospital, the poor man adopted the name Benjaman Kyle, since he was unable to remember anything about his past life.

Kyle, suffering from retrograde amnesia, still has no memory of his former life. To complicate matters even further, Kyle is currently unable to receive a new social security number because of his peculiar situation, and is thus unable to get a job or register at a homeless shelter. Artist Miguel Endara was one of many citizens who, after hearing Kyle’s story, wanted to help. Miguel used his incredibly painstaking stippling technique to create a lifelike portrait of Kyle in 138 hours. The final product contained 2.1 million dots, each applied one by one at an average of 4.25 dots per second. Endara was determined to raise awareness surrounding Kyle’s unimaginable tale. Through selling prints of the work for $90 each, Endara will donate half the proceeds to help his subject. But you don’t have to be an expert photorealistic artist to contribute; an online petition is currently circulating to grant Kyle a social security number and help him begin his new life.

Tea Young Choi’s Illustrations.

As time goes on I’m becoming a bigger and bigger fan of illustrated works.  Photography is no doubt a painstaking process where meticulous attention to to detail is needed, but with illustration, every detail in the end product comes for the illustrators head.  The entire world of the drawing is created mentally, and in Tea Young Choi’s illustrations, every single rivet, bubble, bolt, and chain link is visible in a way that brings reality to his work.  Check out some of his work below.

Loopy Dave Illustrations.

Simply put, Loopy Dave is the sh*t.  All his work is pretty rad, reminds me a lot of Serge Birault’s work (Dave even makes little homages to Serge in his work), and Dave’s work is absolutely full of detail, an that’s exactly what caught my attention. People, look out for hands, muscles, feet (man, the feet are just amazing), girl’s ribs (this one just amazing), fabric and lighting. That said, you may just go ahead and appreciate his work. Don’t forget to check out his portfolio for much more great pieces.

What Would You Do If You Saw This?

Alexa Meade thinks completely backwards. Most artists use acrylic paints to create portraits of people on canvas. But not Meade – she applies acrylic paints on her subjects and makes them appear to be a part of the painting.  Meade is an installation artist based in the Washington, DC area. Her innovative use of paint on the three dimensional surfaces of found objects, live models, and architectural spaces has been incorporated into a series of installations that create a perceptual shift in how we experience and interpret spatial relationships. “I paint representational portraits directly on top of the people I am representing. The models are transformed into embodiments of the artist’s interpretation of their essence. When captured on film, the living, breathing people underneath the paint disappear, overshadowed by the masks of themselves.” – Alexa Meade
