The Finding Nemo Sequel.

FindingDoryLogoTemp_small-610x342

During a work trip to Florida, I got to stay in house with a movie theater in it, and out of all the movies I chose to watch during my stay, ‘Finding Nemo’ was one of the first on the list.  Who knew that only two weeks after, Disney and Pixar would announce that the film is getting a sequel.  Finding Dory will arrive in US cinemas on November 25th, 2015, and (as you may have guessed) will follow the adventures of Dory, the helpful if somewhat absent-minded Blue Tang from the original movie.

Dory-FindingNemo3D-610x381

The film will take place roughly a year after the events of the first film. Many favourites will return, including Marlin, Nemo and the Tank Gang, among others. Other details are scarce right now, but the film will take place partly along the California coastline.

Ellen DeGeneres seems pretty ecstatic about reprising her role as a forgetful fish. “I have waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time,” said DeGeneres. “I’m not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating ‘Toy Story 16.’ But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It’s got a lot of heart, it’s really funny, and the best part is—it’s got a lot more Dory.”

Andrew Stanton

And the director of Finding Nemo, Andrew Stanton, will also be returning to oversee the sequel. “There is no Dory without Ellen,” he said. “She won the hearts of moviegoers all over the world—not to mention our team here at Pixar. One thing we couldn’t stop thinking about was why she was all alone in the ocean on the day she met Marlin. In ‘Finding Dory,’ she will be reunited with her loved ones, learning a few things about the meaning of family along the way.”

Faux Real.

I’ve always enjoyed mind-bending visual displays, and I would love to hop a plane and fly to Minneapolis immediately to visit the Walker Art Center and experience this in person.  These pieces are part of an exhibition entitled Lifelike. Featuring over 50 artists working in painting, sculpture, video, and more, the show centers on commonplace objects that have been taken out of their familiar context in various ways, rendering them strange, beautiful, and new.  If you are in the Twin Cities area you should rush to see this; the show is up until May 24th. Lifelike will also be traveling to other museums in other cities, so if you cannot make it to the Walker you may still be able to catch it.

Busta Rhymes ft. Chris Brown, Missy Elliott & Lil Wayne – Why Stop Now (Remix)

The decision that Busta Rhymes made to sign to YMCMB might have been a bit shocking to some.  People seem to have thought it might impede his ability to make great music, or that his records may not have sold as well, or… (whatever else people were thinking.  Personally I loved the decision).  The remix of ‘Why Stop Now’ is a perfect example of Bussa Buss can do not just on YMCMB, but on any label he’ll ever be on.  Between the success of the original, and the re-introduction of Missy Elliott on the remix, this song is destined to have tons of radio play.

Common And Drake Squash The Beef?

With the Grammy’s occuring last night, a few devout Hip Hop heads noticed that both Common and Drake were both in attendance.  After Common’s repeated Drizzy disses, Drake simply said at a concert that Common should try and “say it to [his] mutha f*ckin face”.  The Grammys were certainly an opportunity for the two to come face to face, but instead, Common spoke to a drunken Toure’ (from Fuse TV) and seemed to squash the beef.   (A friend pointed out that after Common’s album was released, and he had to see Drake in person, he squashed the beef in a timely manner.)  But it’s a good things to see two emcees ending a feud that ultimately amounted to nothing but a few memorable songs and people talking sh*t.

As much as some would love to stop hearing about it (… like myself), word on the street is that the duo met coincidentally back stage, and got into some type of scuffle.  The police were called in to break up the confrontation, and before both parties left the building, it happened a second time.  Now, this is all rumors as of now, and I hate reporting on rumors, no matter what the topic, but if it’s true, I know people would love to know exactly what went on.

Lil Wayne ft. Bruno Mars – Mirror Mirror Teaser.

Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter IV” was without a doubt a very interesting record.  Weather you purchased the extended CD, downloaded the original, or just heard most of the tracks on the radio, everyone has their favorites.  The track Mirror featuring Bruno Mars was quite a heartfelt entry onto the album, and with the video dropping soon, its no surprise that the label released a teaser.  Check the method below.

Addiction Incorporated.

Click the pic to see the trailer.

As a quitting smoker, I’m always interested in the newest, most successful ways of kicking the habit, and one of the best ways I know of that helps me the best is seeing the entire smoking industry in a new light.  Its rare that entire motion pictures come out on the topic (the last one being ‘Thank You For Smoking’), but when I got glimpse of the newest film to breach to subject, I had to put it up.  Click the pictures either above or below to take a look at ‘Addiction Incorporated’, and if your a smoker, just see if it doesn’t change your outlook just a little bit.  Below is the official synopsis.

In 1980, a young scientist named Victor DeNoble was hired by a major tobacco company. Fourteen years later, he was testifying in front of Congress that, despite the sworn testimony of the industry’s chief executives, nicotine was addictive… and the research he did could prove it. ADDICTION INCORPORATED tells the incredible true story of how one of the most important whistleblowers of our time dropped a bombshell on one of America’s most powerful industries- a bombshell that still reverberates today. If you think you know the story, if you think you know the science, and if you think you know Big Tobacco’s next steps, this incendiary documentary will prove you wrong on all counts.

Machine Gun Kelly Teams Up With DMX.

Personally I’ve been shocked by the public’s response to Machine Gun Kelly.  The man just seems to be a monster with songs that stick out from the crowd.  But another thing I didn’t expect was a recent collaboration with DMX for the track “I Don’t Dance”, and the duo even got together on stage to perform the track.  For those of you wondering… this video IS from the same show where DMX got attacked by a fan, which you can see here.

Controlled Quantum Levitation = Real Life Video Games.

I hope almost everyone remembers the epic video game Wipe-Out.  Basically you flew around on floating ships and raced on ridiculously gravity defying track in a futuristic world that made you wonder “when will people ever be able to actually do this?”  Luckily for the kids out there that had this thought in their heads… The brilliant minds over at the Japan Institute Of Science and Technology have used Quantum Levitation to create a scale model track.  Quantum Levitation is something I’ve covered in a previous post, and its wild to see just how fast this advancement is taking strides forward.  In the nearer future, we just might see a breakthrough in transportation.   Check the method below.

Pusha T – What Dreams Are Made Of (Official Video).

Virginia native MC and G.O.O.D. music representative Pusha T, drops off some new visuals for “What Dreams Are Made Of”. Directed by Jason Goldwatch “What Dreams Are Made Of” is very cinematic, like an introduction clip to a movie about cocaine; this shit is ill. The black and white video shows Pusha’s lyrics coming to life, as they are all made out of that pure white.

The clip matches perfectly with the context and lyrics of the track, I’m gonna watch this shit a hundred times tonight. “What Dreams Are Made Of” is off of Pusha’s debut solo album Fear Of God II, which is in stores now. Check out the video after the jump and let us know what you think.

Drake ft. Lil Wayne & Tyga – The Motto (Official Video).

‘The Motto’ has been knocking around radio stations (especially on the west) for quite some time now.  And with Drizzy, Wayne, and Tyga being in the Bay to film the video, the town was a twit with talk about when the video would drop.  I got a hit on Twitter earlier today about the video now having any “Bay b*tches” in the melee, and I’ve been on the hunt for the video since then.  The first time I was it, I was quite impressed with the fact that the entire video was filmed here instead of multiple locations, and I knew where damn near every single shot was taken.  (Shout outs to Tyga’s verse that was shot in my favorite club.)  All in all, the video is quite “Drake-esque” with very simple shots and not too much of a direction, but never the less, it delivers.  Check the method below.

Lindsay Lohan vs. Marilyn Monroe – Leaked Nude Photos.

Click the pic for the unedited photo.

I know before they even read this, all the males said “he’s got to be joking with these censored photos.”, so let me explain.  About a week ago, I came across a source who dropped a couple photos on one of my hard drives and told me that they were the leaked pictures from February’s upcoming Playboy Magazine issue.  The spread is supposed to be a recreation of the ever famous Marilyn Monroe Playboy spread of yesteryear.  Oddly enough they chose Lindsay Lohan as the one to bring back this priceless collection of photos, and weather or not you think she was up to task is all a matter of personal opinion.  When putting these photos up, I was reminded that my sponsors (the people who pay this blog’s bills) tend to go ape-sh*t when there’s too much nudity on the front page.  SO, all you have to do is click the photo to see the bare-skin Miss Lohan in all her glory.  Enjoy.

The Puma House.

In sports world, ‘doing stairs,’ is generally a treacherous endeavor that leaves one with burning calf muscles and an overabundance of lactic acid (Cough, cough… wheeze). The Puma House, in Tokyo, is looking at stairs from a whole new angle. Located in the city’s Aoyama design district, the Puma House encompasses the brand’s press room and event zone, all in one dynamic space, allowing for exhibitions, events, fittings, product launches and other media events.

Cool, grey cement is outfitted in warm wood stairs that encircle columns and serve as a repetition of pedestals, showcasing the new sneaker line. The team at Tokyo-based, Nendo, who curated the space explains, “For our design, we placed ‘staircases’ that climb around the existing features of the space like vines. The resulting effect is a strong reminder that we exercise our bodies daily, going up and down stairs, and has a visual connection with stadium stairs and podiums, to bring in PUMA’s important relationship with sports.” Talk about stepping up their game.

How To Make A Zombie.

The walking dead is one of my favorite shows on TV right now (since Entourage ended).  It’s just interesting to me to see how everyone involved can take a simple zombie movie premise and turn it into a full blown series.  For anyone who hasn’t seen it, it’s a damn good ongoing story that not just all about shooting the undead in the dome.  One of the things that never really grabbed my sense of curiosity was just how they made the zombies in the show.  But the make up designers for the show recently put up somewhat of a tutorial on how exactly they do it.  Check the method.

1. The “Walking Dead” makeup team fits actor Kevin Galbraith with a bald cap and accentuate his high cheekbones to make them look sunken.

2. Next, Galbraith is fitted with rotten-looking, custom-made dentures that can fit under a prosthesis.

3. A custom-made, foam latex prosthesis extends from Galbraith’s forehead to his neck.

4. Makeup artists Kevin Wasner (far left) and Jake Garber glue on individual body wounds. “We had to do his entire upper body. It took 45 minutes,” Nicotero says. Zombie blood is a mixture of Karo syrup, red and yellow food coloring and caramel, plus a drop of detergent so it soaks through clothing.

5. Garber next fits the greasy, sparse zombie wig to the bald cap.

6. Zombies have no time to shave so Wasner adds some stubble and some disgusting dried blood around Galbraith’s mouth. “It’s black sludge in their veins,” says Nicotero.7. The application of hand-painted white contact lenses is the final step of Galbraith’s transformation from working actor to frightening zombie. “The most inspiring part of what we’re doing is that you can have the same person sit in your chair 10 times and they won’t look like the same person when they walk out of the makeup trailer,” says Nicotero.

Real Life Vintage Mugshots.

I didn’t want to insult anyone’s intelligence by putting the words “Real Life” at the beginning of the post, but some of these photographs are so striking that many people may have thought they were designed to look this way.  From the writing on the photos to point out attributes of the criminals, down to the lighting and background of all these incredible pictures… one thing stands out to the most to me.  Back in the day, there weren’t too many black people getting locked up… (INTERESTING.)

Underwater Photo, Or Baroque Painting?

With all of her effects created in-camera using the refraction of light and movement in different depths of water, Christy Lee Rogers creates pictures that look like Baroque paintings without the help of Photoshop. Her obsession with water as a medium coupled with her dedication to photography as an artistic medium, makes her work truly stand out.  Her subjects are wrapped in fabric, bathing in darkness. The water allows the bodies and fabric to move slowly and fluidly. Rogers shoots in swimming pools at night and her sessions can last two to four hours. The night’s natural darkness helps her achieve the black background she needs to surround her subjects in.

In this latest collection she calls Odyssey, Rogers explores such grand themes as birth, life and death. “The story of Odyssey exists in clumps of ideas and energy, griping emotions and the simplicity of truth beyond words,” she explains to us. “Like Homer’s epic Odyssey, life is an exciting and tumultuous adventure filled with thrilling characters to meet along the way. But metaphorically, Odyssey is a much bigger story than that, where the attributes and abilities of mankind soar to an unseen, indescribable level.”  More than anything, Rogers wanted to impart a sense of wonder and tranquility, to provide a bit of solace from our hectic, everyday lives. In addition she says, “The work of an artist lies in manifesting their inner world externally, so you are also experiencing my quest for the answers to life and the knowledge that’s contained in and around it.”

The Bent Forest.

In a tiny corner of western Poland a forest of about 400 pine trees grow with a 90 degree bend at the base of their trunks – all bent northward. Surrounded by a larger forest of straight growing pine trees this collection of curved trees, or “Crooked Forest,” is a mystery.  Planted around 1930, the trees managed to grow for seven to 10 years before getting held down, in what is understood to have been human mechanical intervention. Though why exactly the original tree farmers wanted so many crooked trees is unknown.  Several possibilities come to mind.  It’s obvious that the trees were bent when very young, then recovered.  Those who live near large lakes with prominent ice heaves will have seen trees affected in this manner, and a similiar effect could occur after a blowdown by straightline winds.  However…  I get the sense that this forest is a tree farm, because of the uniformity of age of the trees, and I suspect this is a man-made curvature, because of the similarity of all the trees involved.  If that’s true, then my best explanation would be that these trees were trained as “compass timbers” for shipbuilding or as material for other woodworking.

The Nissan GT Academy.

In my mind, there are primarily two types of serious video gamers out there… The ones who play games because they perform some of those actions in real life (football players that play Madden, ball players who play NBA Live, marines who play Call Of Duty, etc.) and then there are the type of gamers who play games because they imagine one day they’d have the skills to perform some actions in real life.  However, there does come the rare occasion when gamers who have no real life training in something play game long enough, and for so well, that they actually become capable of pulling off some of their digital tricks in real life.  Coincidentally Nissan recognized this with a few champions of Grand Turismo 5.  The game is so life like, the cars so well tuned, and the mechanics so close to the real thing, they’ve chosen a select few to compete in REAL cars for a spot on the professional Nissan racing team.  Check the method below.

A Rap Freestyle Battle Translated.

I’ve been involved in some pretty ridiculous conversations in the past, but one of the best in recent memory was trying to explain to someone what the point of freestyle battling was.  My friends and I tried to explain to a colleague that the art of matching wits with a competitor intellectually was something that other cultures have done for years.  The killer was that we found a skit on Funny or Die of what a Rap Battle might sound like if were translated for the general public.  Regardless of the tags on the video, the original battle is between Dose and Math Hoffa from S.M.A.C.K. DVD.  But the translated version is hilarious none the less.

Miraculous BMW Drift Video.

On my vacation I made the acquaintance of a female street racer that made me reminisce on the ‘good old days’ of precision driving, and being able to push a car to its limits.  This video is a perfect demonstration of what I mean by pushing a car (and its driver) to the limits.  The 340bhp twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight-six (and that M3 rear differential) get a thorough workout in this video, posted by BMW Canada. I’m not clear on the advertising message, but it’s definitely worth a watch.

Kanye West – Monster (Official Music Video).

Click the pic to watch the video.

The track ‘Monster’ from Kanye West has been all over the radio and in clubs for months now, and has even made it onto the soundtracks of a handful of movies, including “The Hangover: Part II”.  So there’s no doubt it was a force to be reckoned with since it dropped.  But even after all its billboard success, there was never a video released for this monstrous song featuring Jay-Z and Nicki Minaj.  But today that’s all changed.  Click the pic to see the official video of ‘Monster’ by Kanye West… better late than never.
