The Most Tagged Song Of The 2012 Olympics.

When current events, movies, tv shows breathe new life into an old song it re-introduce it to the masses and allows us as DJs to work a forgotten song back into our sets. Dizzee Rascal and Armand Van Helden’s “Bonkers” was the most-tagged song during the Olympics’ opening ceremonies broadcast on July 27. Check out the list below of the top 20 songs from the broadcast.  In the U.S., “Bonkers” shot up from almost nothing to nearly 2,000 units last week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Sales of Oldfield’s “Tubular Bells” rose 890%.

The Olympics has been good for other songs, too.  Jones says Phillip Phillips’ “Home” has shot up Shazam’s charts because of use in daytime and primetime broadcasts. The song has also risen to No. 1 on the iTunes list of top tracks in the United States. Check the rest of the list after the jump.

Shazam’s most-tagged songs during the Olympics’ opening ceremonies broadcast:

Loiter Squad – Episode 1/Odd Future Afterparty In San Francisco.

Just like many other 18-15 year old males in the U.S., I’ve become a fan of most of the programming on Adult Swim (the off the wall late night programming that comes on Cartoon Network).  As the line up has changed over the years, I’ve had many different programs to look forward to, but a few months ago I got a bombshell dropped on me that Odd Future would be getting their own Adult Swim programming slot.  The people reading this not totally familiarized with O.F. might not understand just how ridiculous that concept seems, but you will soon.  I’ve managed to get my hands on the first episode of the show ‘Loiter Squad’, and not only is it pure unadulterated hilarity, it’s also exact what Adult Swim needed to keep their line-up fresh.  Check the method below.

For those of you who are unaware of the O.F. movement, let me just open up your mind to the situation.  The group is led by rapper/producer Tyler, The Creator, and includes rappers Hodgy Beats, Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis and Mike G, singer Frank Ocean, producers Left Brain, Syd the Kyd and Matt Martians, and other non-musical members, notably Jasper Dolphin, Taco and L-Boy (that appeared in the ‘Loiter Squad’ episode above.)  Their music is a crowd hyping force to be reckoned with, and anyone who wants proof of this needs to go no further than San Francisco.  O.F. is gathering at 330 Ritch on April 9th for a night of intoxicated skullduggery courtesy of Above Ground.  Click the pic below for tickets.

Birdman’s Birthday Party At Liv.

I’ve posted quite a few videos about the comings and goings of YMCMB, and I’ve been asked quite a bit about why that is.  It’s not because the YMCMB crew is one of the biggest names in music, but because it just seems that when they party, they do it bigger than anyone else right now, and I just enjoy watching them.  Check out Birdman’s birthday party at Liv in Miami.

The Alter Ego Party.

Photo collections are nothing new to this blog, but it’s rare that I find a diverse collection of incredibly stylistic photos from the same night.  Janell Shirtcliff’s birthday party was full of interesting characters that were all sporting their alter-ego’s as costumes.  Now before someone who attended that party hits me up, I have no idea who Janell Shirtcliff is, or when or where her birthday party was… I just know it was her party because the source I got it from says so instead of telling me who the photographers was.  But none the less it seemed like quite an eventful night, and props to this amazing photographer.

Cell Footage Of Drake’s 25th Birthday.

Everyone has a specific plan for their birthday, some people party, some people take it easy, and the great entertainers of the world do things like take over Tao in Las Vegas.  I got a hold of some cell phone footage from the big event, it seemed like quite the night.

Burning Man Re-Visited

Not too long ago, I threw up a post about a photographer at the Burning Man event, and his 1-man photo studio.  After that, I had quite a few people from the east asking me what exactly the event is, if I figured I’d give the event a bit more of profile for those who don’t know.  Burning Man is an annual event that takes place in Black Rock, two and a half hours away from Reno Nevada. People describe the Burning Man event as a self-expressive and a self-reliance community.   Check out some other pics below.

Lil Wayne’s Birthday.

Birthday celebrations come in many forms, but with celebrities, you can expect the extravagant, the ridiculous, the most debaucherous.  But surprisingly enough, Lil Wayne’s 29th birthday was rather calm, cool, and a simple get together with some cake.  A bit unexpected, but when you’re Weezy, I suppose you can do whatever you damn well please.

Vogue’s 90th.

So I can already hear my phone going off with all my fashion forward friends telling me that this post is “SO October 2010″ but I don’t care, I still think it’s dope.  Vogue had its 90th anniversary party late last year with a very interesting theme.  Check the pics below and let me know what you think.  The party was held at the Hotel Pozzo di Borgo, and Carine Roitfeld, the Editor-in-Chief of the French edition of Vogue, hosted the masked ball that was inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s film Eyes Wide Shut.  Among the magazine’s favourite designers, performers and cover girls that came together to celebrate were Christian Louboutin, Jean Paul Gaultier, Tyra Banks, Gisele Bundchen, Kate Moss, Lara Stone (who stars on the cover of the 90th anniversary issue), Karolina Kurkova, Dita Von Teese, Craig David and Jade Jagger.

5 Strong Ent.

Now its no secret that its my job to make a good party, and I don’t normally shout other DJ’s but the crew over at 5 strong is quite praiseworthy. (If you couldn’t tell by the video above… they go hard). 5 Strong consists of 5 DJs, all with differing styles on the wheels of steel. 5 Strong is responsible for some of the hottest parties in New York City and New Jersey and works with artists like Rob Scott. But if your not in the tri-state area, fear not. They also have guest spots in Atlanta, Miami, and L.A. The team is sponsored by www.whatisbez.com andwww.izthatme.com. I had the distinct pleasure of rockin’ with DJ Rob Ru of 5 Strong this past new years eve in New York City, and we’re planning nothing but madness for 2011.

Weezy’s Welcome Back Party.

The Most Interesting Man In The World Strikes Again.

There are quite a few people I take daily inspiration from, my father, my sister, my boys, and… ‘The Most Interesting Man In The World’.  I’ve stopped entire mixing sessions dead in their tracks just to run out of the room and watch one of those Dos Equis commercials with the catchy song and the most ridiculous one liners on the planet.  So when I came across the newest commercial online, I just had to throw it up.  Your welcome Jeff.
