When you spend all that time creating one really detailed 3d model, it only seemed logical to create a series. This time we wanted to explore closeups and use depth of field and broken effects. – Addictive Studios
The Museum Gardens and nature in general are perfect settings to promote peace, to encourage the sharing of joyful stories and to provoke discussions about architecture and design. The proposition was to have a Pavilion which is visually and aesthetically engaging. It is capable of providing an ideal contemporary space offering a sense of tranquility, beauty and an exceptional aesthetic value at the very heart of the Museum Gardens.
Peace is one of the highest human ideals. It is a state of equilibrium; It means no war, but also harmony, silence, pureness, kindness, happiness, appeasement, calm, reconciliation, serendipity, tranquillity… To express these ideas, they have created a perfect and symmetrical sculpture, obtained by a precise geometrical manipulation. The beauty of the shape lies in its perfect symmetry and fluidity of the pavilion.

Zahm is perhaps best known for founding avant-garde style magazine Purple, but he is also famous in fashion circles for his sexy, slick photography. Crystal Renn lounges over a Mercedes 450SL and plays with a toy car in the shots, which were produced in London, and focus on the brand’s “retro glamour sensibility” according to creative director Sarah Shotton.

Conceived by London artist Jonty Hurwitz, these sculpture look pretty much like nothing you can imagine. But when you look at them through the reflection of a cylinder, you discover great pieces of art forming hands, objects & animals.

Check out Nic Fiddian-Green’s heart-stopping sculpture at Castello Di Reschio in Umbria, Italy. Fiddian-Green was at Reschio, working on a commission for the owner, Count Antonio Bolza. And, of course, the subject matter of his massive sculpture was the horse, in this case Count Antonio’s favorite stallion, Punto, born and bred at Reschio.
Ever since he saw a fifth-century B.C. carving of the head of a horse of Selene from the Parthenon at the British Museum he has worked at perfecting the form of the horse’s head, as well as mastering the ancient ‘lost wax’ technique. He works in clay, plaster, beaten lead and marble, and he oversees the casting into bronze himself. Fiddian-Green’s colossal, classically inspired equine heads are exhibited around the world in prominent locations, including ‘Still water ‘, the 30-foot head of a drinking horse right next to the Marble Arch in London.

Wiz Khalifa was in London recording some new tunes & he gave SBTV a call to come chill with him in studio. When the crew arrived, they were treated to some bars from the weed-smoking Wiz.
Rapper generally have a preconceived notion following them that they’re rough, tough, and aren’t to be messed with. Weather an artists persona dictates that they should act aggressive or not… as a human being, anyone gets pissed off when someone steals your stuff. When Asap Rocky got his $15,000 watch stolen in London at Camden Electric Ballroom concert, it wasn’t an act, the man was generally upset… See what happens when you steal Asap’s watch.
London has got quite a summer of celebrations coming up, this week sees the Queen’s Jubilee, and it’s not long until the London 2012 Olympics. As such there are countless festivities planned across the city … and even the historic landmarks are getting in on the act. Tower Bridge has been kitted out with a new state-of-the-art lighting system to help mark the occasions. Over the past six months designers and electricians have been scaling the granite ledges and steel suspension chains of London’s landmark Tower Bridge to install some 6,500 feet (2,000m) of energy-efficient LED linear lights, 1,800 LED lamps, and 1,000 junction boxes with 16,500 feet (5,000m) of cable to the 117-year old bridge. Over the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the lights – which are controlled by computer – will make the famous bridge over the Thames gleam in “diamond” white. Then, when the Olympics begins, the color-changing lights will be used to highlight the Olympic Rings and Paralympic Agitos which will be fitted to the London icon.
Yoobi Sushi, London’s first temakeria, opened last month on Lexington Street in Soho. Its interior design is an exercise in constraint that has produced a statement of clean minimalism at its best. Temaki is fresh sushi wrapped in a cone. It is a take-out or eat-in variety of sushi that was born in Brazil where the largest Japanese population outside Japan resides. London-based Gundry & Ducker Architecture Ltd. stripped the former warehouse back to its original brick and painted the walls dark steel-gray.
The designers were challenged to combine the vibes of Rio, Tokyo and London, and to reflect the Yoobi brand’s color palette created by Ico Design. They solved the riddle with a fusion of only a few distinct features. All key surfaces, apart from floors and ceilings, received a light timber covering. The only “colors” are added by the brilliant white sushi bar, by the on-brand color inlays in tables, and by the chairs. The decorative touch that connects all of the elements is the on-brand angular detail on the floor, sushi bar, tables, and on the blocky benches and plinths.
Now of days everyone is a DJ, even Prince Charles. Watch as he learns how to match beats for the first time. As an added bonus watch him attempt to breakdance.
First: watch the video. Japanese artist Riusuke Fukahori paints three-dimensional goldfish using a complex process of poured resin. The fish are painted meticulously, layer by layer, the sandwiched slices revealing slightly more about each creature, similar to the function of a 3D printer. I really enjoy the rich depth of the pieces and the optical illusion aspect, it’s such an odd process that results in something that’s both a painting and sculptural. Wonderful. Fukahori just closed an exhibition at ICN Gallery in London titled Goldfish Salvation, and you can see many more images via the gallery’s Facebook, but probably the best resource is this set of photos by Dominic Alves.
Design’s love affair with bold color inches one step further with the application of graphic art into everything from tables to chairs, bookshelves and even yachts. Cappellini gave Adam Goodrum’s ‘Stitch’ chair the colour treatment with blocks or red, blue, white and black applied to the segments of the aluminium folding chair. Designer Enzo Berti recasts the humble bookshelf as a canvas for graphic prints with his Bar Code Street shelves. London based artist Anna James, who transforms pieces of 20th century furniture into contemporary art works, applied a clean graphic to her Genoa table. And of course who can forget Jeff Koon’s ‘art’ yacht, released last year, which is still wowing onlookers on the Mediterranean.

For those who have no idea what the hell ‘Batman Live’ is, its an all new theater production of Batman, that features a new story with all his classic villians. Will be worth your $200 for a ticket? Only time will tell, but what I heard yesterday is that the Dark Knight will be cruising the boards in a very plush ride. Indeed the Batmobile of Broadway (or more accurately of ‘Manchester’, from July onwards) is designed by the very man who designed the McLaren F1 road car and the Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren, on top of a number of F1 racing cars, Professor Gordon Murray. The same man that independently designed the Rocket, an ultra-lightweight, open cockpit roadster powered by a 1-litre motorcycle engine, which has an appearance similar to that of a 60′s era Grand Prix car.
Batman Live will tour arenas for the first time ever across the UK and Europe, beginning in summer 2011, and arriving in North America in August 2012. Opening in Manchester on 19 July 2011 and visiting Newcastle, Glasgow, Sheffield, Birmingham, London, Liverpool, Nottingham, Dublin and Belfast.
Sure, it’s a middle class problem but ever get annoyed by having to change the time on your watch when you enter a new country? It might not be an issue that afflicts those of us who don’t go travelling that often but this ingenious watch is still perfect for those who wish that they did. The “All Around the World” watch boasts eight hour hands, which resemble landmarks in major cities. For example, if you’re in New York then you’d use the Statue of Liberty as your hour marker. Minutes are always marked by a pigeon. You know, because they’re a given in every city.
Here’s the full list of cities and landmarks:
Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco
Salt Lake Temple, Utah
Sears Tower, Chicago
Statue of Liberty, New York
Big Ben, London
The Eiffel Tower, Paris
Istambul’s minarets
Red Square, Moscow
There are only 100 watches and each costs £150. You can find out more info, including where to buy here.
Street art is honestly by far my favorite medium for visually expressing ideas. It literally comes in all different forms, and can inspire, scare, bewilder, warn, and make people laugh. This is probably my 9th or 10th street art collection on this blog in the last 2 years. So although I think one or two photos may have been repeated in previous posts, check out all these incredibly interesting pieces of street art.
Construction for the ‘London Aquatics Centre’ for the London 2012 summer Olympics by Zaha Hadid Architects is now complete. Capable of holding 17,500 individuals at one moment, this facility will be the venue for the swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water polo events. Sheltering the sports events, athletes and supporters is an aluminum clad steel roof which spans 160 meters in length and 90 meters at its widest point. Three substantial concrete columns effortlessly support the 3,000 ton sweeping overhead structure. The double curvature parabolic structure visually evokes the form of an undulating wave. On the interior, 850,000 tiles surface the pools, changing facilities and and floors. The cluster of concrete towers including the three meter springboards and diving platforms were formed and cast on site.
Stephen Webster, in characteristic flamboyance launched The Seven Deadly Sins collection in London’s Old Vic’s tunnels under Waterloo station. Look all seven rings and I dare you to tell which is your Deadly Sin. Webster presented a collection of rings, a very original name “The Seven Deadly Sins.” There are seven human vices: pride, envy, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath and lust. The concept is super sick, and the rings themselves are exquisitely constructed. Check the method. (Note, the name of the ring is below the picture.)
About 2 years ago, I took a trip to London, and got my wallet jacket. So with no money, no I.D., no credit cards, or travelers checks, my friend and I decided to play a little game with people to make some money. It’s called by many names all over the world, but its the same basic concept. It consists of an item (a ball, wadded up piece of news paper, or whatever) underneath a cup, or bottle cap, and the “controller” scrambles them around, and you have to pick which one said item is under. We’ve all seen it a million times, and when you play for subway money, the controller tends to cheat. But when you play online there’s no cheating, just an absurd amount of speed that the computer can put on spins. So try your luck, do you best, and click the pic to figure out where the ‘red’ is.
