Goodbye LMFAO

L.A. duo Redfoo and SkyBlu, otherwise known as LMFAO, have announced that they won’t be going near your ears in the foreseeable future. The announcement came early this morning, when Redfoo broke the news that LMFAO are taking a break to pursue individual interests. “I feel like we’ve been doing this for so long, five or six years,” he told news.com.au. “And we’re kind of like saying, well, let’s just do what’s natural and just kind of explore that, instead of like forcing it all the time.” Redfoo added that he and SkyBlu were headed in “different directions” and didn’t know when (or if?) the pair would ever reunite musically. The uncle and nephew team first began performing together in 2006, releasing their debut album Party Rock in 2009, which scored a nomination for Best Dance/Electronica Album in the following year’s Grammy Awards. But it wasn’t until last year that the pair broke through with Party Rock Anthem from their second album Sorry for Party Rocking, the release also spawning your jam of the decade Sexy And I Know It. From there, the duo went about spreading the “party rock mission”, touring with our own Stereosonic in 2011 and attracting the attention of Santigold. But all’s not lost for LMFAO devotees, as Redfoo also revealed that he has plans to release a fashion line and launch a solo career. “All the music that I’m going to make is always going to be LMFAO-ish,” he assured. “I was really passionate about bringing party music to the world, so I will always be making some kind of party music.”

Ice Cube Celebrates The Eames.

Ice Cube Celebrates The Eames for Pacific Standard Time the birth of the LA art scene. As he drives Inglewood blvd. describing the Los Angeles that he knows, he talks of landmarks like The Forum, Five Torches, Cockatoo Inn, Brolly Hut, and Watts Towers. He refers to the 110 as “Gangsta Highway”. Cube says coming from South Central LA teaches you how to be resourceful. He walks the Eames House perimeter, through the Eames living room, and sitting in the Eames lounge chair. He brings us back to his NWA years when he studied architectural drafting before launching his rap career. One thing he learned that translates is to always have a plan. Cube describes the modern, green and resourceful building design of Charles and Ray Eames. Visionaries of connecting nature and structure. “Who are these people who got a problem with LA? Maybe they mad cuz they don’t live here.”

Fresh Skate Video.

Every so often I’ll get the random urge to jump on a skateboard (and inevitably hurt myself).  But since I’ve got many big events coming up, (330 Ritch, University of Southern California, Otis, Dominican University, Sutra, The Hip Hop vs. Couture Show, and the Rockit Scientists Release Party) all before the end of the year, I figured I’d just watch some dope skate videos instead of breaking my wrist and having to spend the rest of the year on the bench.  So after hours of preening through different skate videos, I found one that (to ME) is one of the most impressive trick videos I’ve come across in quite some time.  Check the method below.

L.A.’s Abandoned Hospital.

The empty, run-down Linda Vista hospital in Boyle Heights has been closed for twenty years, and it shows in the pictures taken by “Ransom Riggs”.  Dirt caked in layers on walls and mysteriously wet floors, broken windows, doors hung off their hinges, ceiling tiles had fallen victim to moisture and gravity, and walls chewed through by rats make Linda Vista the perfect place for a horror flick.

Linda Vista was a railroad hospital. Originally known as Santa Fe Coast Lines Hospital, it was constructed in 1905 to care for Santa Fe railroad workers who had been injured on the job. I found this file on top of a scattered pile on the third floor — it seems to be the admittance form for one Charlie S. Plunk, railroad conductor, born 1909, admitted October, 1972.  Countless more files can be found downstairs in the death records room. Why thousands of highly personal records are allowed to molder in the basement of a defunct hospital, I don’t know.  Many of the rooms were painted with bright colors years ago; faded and peeled now, they make the place even more surreal.

No Exit.

Rob Dyrdek cameo in spectacular “drift” video.

As a car fanatic, I am always looking for the next impressive automotive whatever that may come along.  But when I peeped a rediculous drift video out of L.A., there seemed like nothing could make it nicer than the insane driving, and percision stunts… Until Rob Dyrdek showed up and shot the car up with a paintball gun.   Click the pic to watch the 4 minute movie.

Party in South Central.

As many of you may have noticed, my posts have pretty much stopped over the last few days.  I’ve been posted in the great city of Los Angeles, with Duckworth of Tokyo 24 in South Central, enjoying the weather and getting work done.  When I leave, all the pictures from the trip will be available shortly after.
