Rolls-Royce Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe II

01

Turkish automotive designer Ugur Sahin has recently presented his own version of the Rolls Royce Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe. The main goal of this design was to respectfully reinterpret the original Rolls Royce Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe I, which was built in Belgium by Henri Jonckheere and his son Joseph Jonckheere in 1935. What has remained from that company is currently manufacturing bodies for cars and buses. They’ve asked Ugur Sahin to give a new appearance to their most appreciated project. Infusing a new look to a 77-year-old car is not an easy thing to do but Ugur Sahin pulled it off with a redesigned massive front grill and revised round doors that pay tribute to the original model. At the back it adopts similar bold styling with just a few subtle changes that don’t change the car’s stance and main proportions. Currently Ugur Sahin is negotiating with potential investors and parties who are interested to become involved in the project in order to build an exclusive “One-Off” car which is destined to give its owner the ultimate feeling of luxury.

L’Or de Jean Martell “Dome” by Eric Gizard

M

The house of Martell has collaborated with French interior architect and designer Eric Gizard to create the “Dôme” gift box for L’Or de Jean Martell.  I worked by drawing inspiration from cabinets of curiosities where collectors would store precious, almost magical objects in Renaissance Europe,” Eric Gizard said. “I was also inspired by silver cloches from great restaurants that excite curiosity and showcase the revelation of an exceptional dish.” The Dome’s base contains a hidden book that emerges with a single push. A mirror placed behind the bottle reflects and enhances the colour of this intense cognac. L’Or de Jean Martell is a blend of very old Grande Champagne and Borderies eaux-de-vie, creating a unique blend of elegance, power and roundness. This blend consists over 400 rare eaux-de-vie, some more than a century old, and they come in a precious crystal decanter. The cognac is a testimony to Jean Martell, whose founding principles are based on the pursuit of perfection. It has notes of fruited candy, sweet spices and gingerbread.

Designer Paul Cocksedge introduces his next smartphone speaker simply dubbed the Volume. The speaker carries the same elegant simplicity as its vinyl counterpart, which is a horn like shape allowing users to hear the music however they prefer. Mid-air for ambient listening is the most popular choice, but there is also the option for more directional sound which can be achieved by using its angled foot on a flat surface.

California Roll House Concept by Christopher Daniel

California-Roll-House-02

California Roll House Korean designer Christopher Daniel of Violent Volumes is a futuristic concept of a prefab home designed to be assembled and disassembled in record time. At times, the simplest form with least manipulation from its original form can offer visual amenities and adapted solution to the context. California Roll prefabricated house takes this methodology to create its morphological adaptation to its environment : desert. Homogeneous exterior material which provides high grade of energy efficiency and reflects heat from the sun covers the entire surface except for glass panels which is electronically controlled to change its transparency.

To sustain its challenging structural stand, carbon fibre truss frame under neath the exterior material holds the entire architecture. Hydraulic powered automatic doors and security system is used for main entrance door which allows less spaces to operate the door mechanism. California Roll house features these latest technologies applied to architecture which breaks the boundary of product or vehicle design and architectural design which brings more mobility to living spaces. Plain surface on the ground extended from exterior surface provides paved area for out door activities which requires flat and artificial surface different from desert sand surface. As well as surface on the ground, inside of exterior shell is covered with fibre reinforced plastic panels.

Brazilian architect Luciano da Silveira Araujo and industrial designer Marcelo Alves, partners and directors of OL! Os Loucos created really interesting Toroid table. The Toroid table plays with the concept of symmetry and asymmetry, its shape creates illusions of perspective and a new design every move is viewed. Its original and registered form is obtained through mathematical logic, classical geometry and parametric modeling, and a little production secret.

Wooden Carpet.

German textile designer Elisa Strozyk is showcasing her wooden textiles carpet made from veneer offcuts. Her technique in creating this piece is to laser cut the veneer pieces and bond them onto fabric. The wooden carpet can lie flat on the floor, but can also be playfully positioned due to its surprisingly flexible form. Conceptually, her work intends to look at materials in new ways. She is interested in re-evaluating our presumptions about the resources we use, especially as our environmental wealth continually diminishes today.

A Minimalist’s Wallet.

Supr Slim is designed for the person who hates schlepping around a bunch of unnecessary stuff in their pockets like one-dollar bills, coins, receipts, and year-old loyalty cards. Thanks to smarter phones and the good people at Square, carrying all that extra stuff in your wallet is a thing of the past.We believe that all you really need in your wallet are your essential cards. Supr Slim was created with this in mind – to be a super-thin, card-carrying over-achiever.

We observed that many of today’s minimal wallets fail because the material (usually leather) stretches out leaving it unable to hold a smaller number of cards. The beauty of our durable, elastic design is that Supr Slim stretches and wraps tightly around your cards. Whether you carry 10 cards one week and then 2 cards for the weekend, Supr Slim will never stretch out or lose its ability to grip your cards. At only 3 mm, Supr Slim is as thin as the cards in your pocket and you will breeze through RFID scanners.

Louis Vuitton Board Games.

Louis Vuitton presents “All Aboard Games,” a video created by “Ill Studio”, that takes the viewer on a “fantastic and surrealist voyage inside a Louis Vuitton game case.”  All of the iconic game symbols that the French brand have been using since 1888 are featured in this colorful piece. Chess, checkers, cards, dominoes, roulette, etc…  The film was released onto LV’s online magazine New, Now and falls in line with their trend towards promoting the vintage lifestyle and the brands historical roots.

Mixin’ Up The Medicine.

The Bodum Coffee & Tea Maker is unlike any I’ve seen before. A borosilicate glass reservoir & beverage filter are integrated as detachable modules, making the coffee or tea completely spill-proof. The engagement of brewing process is revealed in one central, elegant device. A new chapter in both coffee & tea culture.

The ‘Contour’ Machine That Can Print A House.

Amazing advancements have been made in 3D-printing technology, but designer Sebastian Bertram has taken it a step further, expanding the capabilities of 3D printing to large-scale 3D building. The Contour Crafter aims to keep up with demand for housing in urban areas with a construction method that combines industrial production and the technique of rapid prototyping. The robot “prints” contours of a building shell layer by layer using fast-drying concrete. Within just a couple of weeks, an entire estate could be produced.

The Tondonia Winery Pavillion.

The Rafael López de Heredia Tondonia Winery is one of the oldest and more famous winery in the Spanish region of La Rioja. To celebrate their 125th anniversary they decided to rehabilitate a very old store that the winery founder took to Brussel’s World Fair in 1910 and had been disassembled ever since.

In 2002 current owners (direct descendants of the founder), discovered how beautiful the old store was and decided to built an exterior volume to house the old store. This would become the future wine store and a place where visitors could taste the great wines they produce. This pavillion is only part of all the project that will include three more tasting rooms and a cleaning room. More images and architect’s description after the break.

The adage that from small beginnings many things may grow applies well to this project. The client, famous family bodegas of Rioja came to us with the intention of designing a pavilion to contain an older pavilion. The old pavilion had been found in their outhouses and restored to its original condition. It had been originally commissioned by the great grandfather for the world fair exhibition in 1910. The proprietors of the bodegas had a long succession of adding their built presence to the tradition of the bodegas.

The new pavilion was to be exhibited at the Alimentaria Fair in Barcelona and afterwards relocated to the bodegas at Haro in Rioja. In time the pavilion would be superseded by a new extension of cultural buildings. As such it was a stepping-stone,a bridge between the past, present and future development of the bodegas. For us the starting point was to jump into the future to determine how the present would evolve. We began this project by a series of studies exploring how the bodegas could evolve. Working backwards from these studies the pavilion began to emerge in tandem.

The pavilion would house the past the old pavilion. Made from timber and designed in a fin de scele style the old pavilion became a jewel within a new container. Like a series of Russian dolls the new pavilion itself was to be eventually housed within the new extension at the bodegas. The new pavilion would be just one layer in a larger composition.

The RIN Chair.

The Japanese word RIN means an appearance that is stunning, elegant and courageous. The idea is to create a new type of chair that is in harmony with Japanese and Danish design traditions.  Designed by Hiromichi Konno, if nothing else, this chair has one of the best photographers I’ve ever seen.

Hiromichi Konno says:

“I wanted to make a beautiful chair that can stimulate and awaken emotions in people. It must be able to appeal visually but also make us feel a form of elegance when we sit in it. Therefore, I have established something poetical, simple, strong, relaxed and innovative all at the same time. The goal from the beginning was to create the perfect chair”

Chinese Rubber Band Typo

The Chinese Rubber band typo was designed by Hong Kong designer Che ManChing. Che ManChing’s design was of five of the unfortunate conflicts in Hong Kong that has happened at different times, such as; SARS, and the economic recession in Hong Kong. The generous design concept used rubber bands so that the people of Hong Kong can bend and can stretch the different colors interweaving the five key words of the five storms, expressing Hong Kong people united as one, regardless of good times and bad, are holding the resilient spirit.

Lady Gaga’s x Giorgio Armani.

Lady Gaga and Madonna’s outfits for their respective upcoming tours look set to rival one another in the high fashion stakes, the latter has Jean Paul Gaultier on hand, while Giorgio Armani has just revealed sketches of his creations for Gaga.  On April 19 Armani unveiled a string of predictably wild custom-made outfits for the songstress, including lashings of luminous PVC, a keyboard head piece and, naturally, spiky shoulders.  “Collaborating with Lady Gaga is always an exciting experience for me. I admire the way she uses fashion as a scenic element and as a means to build a character,” said Armani, who also created looks for her 2010 Monster Ball tour.  “She is an artist of many talents and great intelligence. Creating stage costumes for her is a stimulating and creative exercise.”  While Gaga’s Born This Way Ball kicks off April 27 in Seoul, Korea, Madonna starts the MDNA Tour May 29 in Tel Aviv, Israel.  The songstress confirmed that her long-time collaborator Gaultier, who came up with the iconic pieces of her 1990 Blonde Ambition tour, is helping out with costumes.

The Swarovski Watch by Tokujin Yoshioka.

Tokujin Yoshioka has designed “Lake of Shimmer” – Avant Time Nº3 for Swarovski. The bracelet of this watch is adorned with small hexagonal stainless steel that reflects the light beautifully. It is expected to be released in September, 2012.  Consisting of a single 12 faceted crystal, the watch was inspired by the facade of the stand Yoshioka designed for Swarovski in 2009 for Baselworld.  The mirrored face appears as if it is reflecting the sun off the surface of a lake, emitting a strong brilliance and luminosity to the wearer.

The Evolution Of Paint.

Valencia-based designers Culdesac have created ‘The Paint Evolution’ for the paint company Valentine.  Their collaborative project celebrates the ever changing nature of artistic tools and implements within the valentine brand.
Brushes and rollers in this creative collection feature an interactive, form-as-function approach to the construction of each piece.  One may anticipate the mark and movement of the implement in an artist’s hand simply by examining the form of each object.

‘Genetic mutations give birth to imaginative instruments: the brush compass, pendulum or whip give us a clue to the behavior of paint through sketches and through history’

Kate Moss Is The New Mango Spring 2012 Campaign Model.

Kate Moss has been revealed as the face of Mango’s Spring 2012 campaign, appearing in print and television campaigns captured by Terry Richardson.  While the Barcelona-based retailer had opted for actresses including Scarlett Johansson and Penélope Cruz to front collections in recent years, Moss’s appointment marks a move further into the realm of high fashion for the brand.  Kate Moss attended a photocall January 24 at Mango’s London flagship store in Oxford Street ahead of the collection launch.

A television commercial starring Moss called ‘Spy Game’ will also go live across 40 countries including the UK, France and Germany early March.  The fashionista’s previous high street collaborations include modeling and designing her own fashion lines for British retailer Topshop.  “Kate Moss was chosen as the image of Mango because she is a world-famous fashion icon, making her one of the most sought-after models in the fashion world.”

The Lake House…

Lake Tahoe, Nevada is among the most sought after destinations for dream homes. The beautiful  views of the large freshwater lake located in the Sierra Nevada make Tahoe the perfect get away destination.  There are quite a few waterfront properties lining the lake, few as breathtaking as ‘The Lake House’ designed by San Francisco based studio Mark Dziewulski Architect. Built nearly 6 years ago, the project was started in June 2006 and took until February 2010 to complete the extravagant home.

This monstrous home covers over 8,694 square feet of contemporary beauty that includes 5 floors, four bedrooms, four bathrooms, six level glass stairwell, and of course a glass elevator to make accessing your desired floor a breeze. If you are looking to pick this masterpiece up, this half acre lot in Incline Village, Crystal Bay, Nevada, USA is currently listed at $43 million.

Allure Nightclub, Abu Dhabi Marina.

Standing out in Abu Dhabi takes more than clever gimmicks. Among the opulence of luxury hotels, lavish restaurants and all other forms of pampering and spectacular entertainment – including Ferrari World and a few breathtaking golf clubs – being merely great is nowhere near enough. The legendary Cipriani Group is one of the brave enterprises that has recently entered the competition for the attentions of the demanding super-elite clientele.  Cipriani’s nightclub, Allure, at the Yas Island Yacht Club on Yas Island, has a few features that warrant at least one extra bat of even the most worldly of eyelashes.  The night club’s location is one such feature. Allure overlooks the water and extravagant super yachts of the Yacht Club.

Although it is connected by a bridge to magnificent five-star The Yas Hotel, the most amazing part of the nightclub is the view. What you see from its balcony is a real Formula One™ race track.  Designed by Orbit Design Studio (Bangkok, London and Singapore), Allure is divided into The Main room adorned with gold leaf and bronze cladding, and The Terrace that overlooks the race track.  Orbit has also designed the Sound Phuket night club, the Bed Supperclub in Bangkok, and many other luxury bars, clubs and restaurants designers throughout Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
