The Skull Nickles.

The term “Hobo Nickel” describes any small-denomination coin (though, normally soft nickels) that people carve to create miniature reliefs of…well, all sorts of things. It started sometime in the 18th century but continues to this day; There’s even an entire society dedicated to the art of nickel carving…  This all sounds stimulating, I know, but have a little faith. As with all types of art, something that seems simple in explanation is made beautiful and complicated in the hands of right artists. Check out a few of these “Skull Nickels“, a very surface view of just what carvers do with these “Hobo Nickels“.

Changing Cognac?

A new cognac created to be sipped specifically on the rocks was launched this week and is described as a flavor journey that will take the drinker through aromas of white peach, lemon sorbet and iced mint as the temperature of the elixir drops.  Ice Cognac by ABK6 is said to develop its distinct aromas as it progressively comes into contact with cold temperatures and water.  The limited edition cognac, produced in the hillsides of Claix, France, made its debut at Vinexpo, the world’s largest wine trade fair, in Bordeaux this week.  At 18 C (64F) for instance, the cognac begins softly and smoothly, giving off aromas of vanilla and evolving into white peach. At 12 C (54F) aromas of orange blossom are detected, before merging into lemon sorbet.  And when the mercury dips to about 5 C (41), the cognac emits notes of iced mint.  The cognac is made from the Ugni blanc grape, the most widely planted white grape in France, and is best served in a tumbler glass over several ice cubes.

Tom Hussey’s “Reflections”

Photographer Tom Hussey set out to create a very unique and thought provoking collection of images, and achieved his goal with masterful results.  I know I’ve personally thought about myself in my past, where I was last year at this time, what I was doing, the company I kept, and the quality of my work.  But what about 10, 25, or even 50 years in the past?  I obviously haven’t lived long enough to look back 50 years but the subjects in these photos have, and what they see is quite interesting.  Check the method below, and try not to think to yourself… “What will I see when I look back on my own life decades from now.”

The iPhone Is Prude.

Now, its pretty well known fact that I’m not as wildly promiscuous as I have been in past years, but I’d still like the ability to send a good drunk text.  Apple is now trying to make that impossible. Today the US Patent and Trademark Office approved a patent Apple filed in 2008, which, get this, prevents users from sending or receiving “objectionable” text messages.  The patent’s official title? “Text-based communication control for personal communication device” which actually doesn’t use the pretty ridiculous noun/verb “Sexting,” but come on, we all know what they mean.

The “Sexting” patent background info states that the problem it solves is that there is currently “No way to monitor and control text communications to make them user appropriate. For example, users such as children may send or receive messages (intentionally or not) with parentally objectionable language.”

And the patent itself:

In one embodiment, the control application includes a parental control application. The parental control application evaluates whether or not the communication contains approved text based on, for example, objective ratings criteria or a user’s age or grade level, and, if unauthorized, prevents such text from being included in the text-based communication. Good thing I use BlackBerry.

Change Your Colors

The brand Technomarine has in my opinion, one of the brands I always knew I’d own the entire collection of one day.  With the new multi-colored watches from Technomarine, I may not need to.  With just one watch you can pick and choose the color for any occasion, anytime you want.
