Stupidity… The Movie.

Personally I love finding the meaning of things that people tend to skip over, the primary example being the meaning behind certain words.  Not too many people know that both “f*ck” and “sh*t” are acronyms for things people used to do every day, and over time developed into taboo words that you use excessively starting at the age of 10.  This documentary about “Stupidity”, tells us the history of the word “moron”, the difference between stupid, moron, smart, intelligent, genius and questions the regular practice of classifying peoples intelligence through standardized IQ tests.  Of course also our former president Bush is examined in this report.  A well educated guy who, nevertheless, acts in a completely dumb way.  If you have the time, check out the entire documentary below.

The Human Planet.

It shouldn’t be any kind of secret and that I get my nerd on pretty often, but I was suprised to know a few of my close comrades were just as excited as I was to watch the preview for a new BBC special titled ‘Human Planet’. The BBC and its affiliates are the same folks responsible for bringing the specials ‘Life’ and ‘Planet Earth’ to TV screens and DVD players all over the place. This mini series however doesn’t focus on the strange, unseen world of the animal kingdom, but it focuses on foreign cultues that are rarely seen, observed or documented, which makes the ads for ‘Human Planet’ extremely intriguing. My BlackBerry Is Not Working!

They say all good comedy has a modicum of truth to it, and there’s no denying that the jargon that’s built up around technology is littered with opportunity for mockery, fun-poking, and general satire.  My sister and I are both huge fans of British comedy and this video sparked my interest quickly.  Leave it to two old pros from the UK, then, Harry Enfield and Ronnie Corbett, to summarily dispatch Apple, BlackBerry, Orange, Microsoft and everyone in between in one of the better tech-related sketches we’ve seen. See them do their thing after the break, but be warned: the video contains more than your recommended daily allowance of fruit puns.

The Drunken Monkeys.

As a known drinker, I’ve always been curious as to what makes certain people more susceptible to the “temptation” of liquor than others.  I found some possible answers in a very unlikely source.  I realized this add for liquor isn’t far from the truth, after seeing this BBC documentary on monkeys on the island of St. Kitts. Some of them have tendencies much like humans, which leads me to believe that certain actions may be genetic, not just general behavior.  Check the method below.
