In the skiing world Jon Olsson is known for innovating new tricks, in the automotive world he’s known for taking supercars through weather that might make some SUV drivers cringe. Olsson took delivery of his newest toy, a full-carbon PPI Automotive Design Audi R8 Razor GTR sporting his signature roof box. The R8 V10 sports a complete carbon fiber widebody that weighs in at a scant 1,320 lbs or so. In total, the PPI Design transformation shaves over 550 lbs from the R8′s body, while power upgrades from PPI and Statis should have Olsson’s car over the 710-hp mark. He also opted for a set of ADV.1 wheels for each corner of the R8.

The Audi Spectacle.

Audi, a brand exuding an attitude of self confidence and progressive thinking, and associated with the latest technology and innovative design, is a perfect brand to pioneer this entirely original ACCESS/TCH concept, a new breed of “billboard.”  It’s a display of four life-size Audi cars, suspended inside the silver rings of a massive Audi symbol attached to an iconic bridge structure or in front of landmark spaces — the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge, Tower Bridge, Venice.

The rings rotate around, light-up at night, and move up and down the bridge. Against the backdrop of spectacular urban architecture, the Audi installation reflects Audi’s continuous challenging of the status quo, its capacity to innovate, and its ability to avoid the bland and the ordinary.  But what will create valuable media attention and social media buzz is not just the actual final display, but the entire anticipation, the process of creation, the engineering feat of the installation and the spectacular launch event.

The manufacturing and transportation of the gigantic rings, the installation of the rings, the hoisting of the vehicles, the first test of the lights, the rehearsals of the launch…  By the time the installation is complete, and the unveiling event is about to start, the news about it will have reached those in the know.

PR — locally and globally — plus participation and rallies by dealers, and other in-town and on-site activities and happenings leading up to the unveiling, will add to the echo effect of this one-of-a-kind promotion.  The anticipation, excitement and buzz will culminate in an epic night-time launch event that we envision including a live symphony orchestra playing on a barge right under the suspended rings or on the bridge itself, a fireworks presentation or a LED light show above the bridge, and the ultimate unveiling of the rings.

The Audi Shark.

2009 World Auto Design Contest Winner; The “Audi Shark”.  Shark would have been the perfect car of the future. That’s why Shark has been designed in the future of technology without leaving today’s conditions.  Shark shows difference from today’s cars in terms of its own design and technology. It carries the qualifications of today’s technology and at the same time it takes the attention about its structure of plane and motorcycle like details.

Speed which all sports cars have quite affects the design of Shark. This effect is seen first on auto’s outside part. Shark has no vehicle unlike other classical cars. While this qualification increases the quality of drive, speed and control, it diminishes the risk of accident on the road. With Shark people can feel the flying, excitement and comfort. Outside the car what attracts people is the system of paddles. These paddles are designed by the effect of a shark and it provides the car to speed up with a balance and control and complete the concept of the car.

Shark’s fore and back head lights are designed like big cylinder to fit the design of Audi. The last difference of Shark is seen with the design of seats. These seats that are like motorcycle seat and thought for maximum comfort of the drivers. Shark’s out design details and the design of the seats satisfy the driver who like speed.  Can be seen as the car of the future with its own technology and different details. That’ s why Shark is a auto which reflects both today and future.

The New Porsche ‘Macan’ SUV.

Porsche‘s new compact SUV is to be called the Porsche Macan, derived from the Indonesian word for ‘tiger’, the luxury German automaker confirmed February 16.  Releasing the first teaser sketch and video for the model, Porsche also confirmed that it will begin production in 2013 as the fifth Porsche model line, following in the footsteps of the larger Cayenne SUV.  The firm’s first impressions show a low, sleek model which is known to be based on the Audi Q5 platform, with a sportier styling and premium interior.

It is believed that the model will feature 2.0 and 3.0 liter gasoline and diesel engines, slightly more powerful than those in the Audi Q5, with a Macan Turbo S also expected to follow, possibly alongside a hybrid model.  In a statement, Porsche said that the animal roots of the name Macan, which is derived from Indonesian language, reflected the model’s characteristics such as “suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics.”  Its introduction is likely to mark the start of a turf war between Porsche and Maserati, which introduced its own (admittedly larger) Kubang SUV last year.

The Audi Ring.

French designer Arnaud Lapierre has created ‘ring’, a series of mirrored cubes placed in a circular pattern in collaboration with AUDI.  The vast amount of reflections and angles warps the perspective of the surrounding area in a way I’ve never seen before.  The optical effect creates a surreal environment in which both the structures and people are distorted and recreated, fracturing the usual relationship that individuals have with the piazza as well as themselves.  Overall, the installation measured 5500 x 4000 mm (216 x 157 inches).  The ‘ring’ installation was on show at Place Vendôme, Paris, at the 2011 Foire Internationale d’art Contemporain (FIAC).  Check the method.

The Audi Axiom Concept.

Fabulous design comes to my internet doorstep everyday, Amar Vaya, a designer who takes extra philosophical time in designing a car, one called Axiom in this case. Branded with the Audi name, the Axiom is an exercise in emphasizing the idea of “beauty” within the tradition of Audi’s idiom. What’s that mean? It means it’s gotta look like an Audi. People HAVE to know that it’s an Audi when they first peek at it.

Has Amar Vaya done it? Let’s take a look here. Vaya notes that success and progress through technology are tenants of the Audi brand, indeed that is one of the main driving forces behind them. Through this, Vaya promotes the Axiom as hope through progress, a freedom or refuge from an uncertain world as you sit inside a shell of futurism.

The second area where Vaya explores beauty through Audi is time. Through what Vaya describes as the “history, wisdom, knowledge, and legacy” of Audi especially through their design and technological advances, the Axiom describes all of this aesthetically.  Power, agility, beauty, Audi. Hotness, Vaya.

The West Coast Customs Tron R8.

Tron has inspired a lot of new projects and probably the best one is the Audi R8 that was recently presented at the CES 2011 . Tuned by Pimp My Ride and with a chrome-plated new design from West Coast Customs, the ride features glowing vents and rims. See it shining in the video below.

The New Audi Quattro Concept.

This year marks the 30th birthday of Audi’s now famous quattro all-wheel drive system. One of the seminal Audi cars was a limited edition, short-wheelbase plastic-bodied extreme machine called the Sport Quattro — the vehicle that helped launch Audi’s successful run of world championship-winning rally cars. That car serves as the source of inspiration for the Audi Quatto concept, which is bowing at the 2010 Paris show.

Loosely based on the Audi RS5, the Audi Quattro concept sits on a wheelbase that has been shorted by almost 6 inches. The rear overhang was shortened by 7.9 inches, and the roofline was lowered by 1.6 inches. Together, these reductions add up to a much tighter package and more muscular proportions. To help bring the weight down to 2,900 pounds — roughly the same weight as the 1984 Sport Quattro — Audi replaced the steel body of the production RS5 with a custom aluminum spaceframe architecture clad with carbon fiber panels. The RS5′s V-8 and dual-clutch transmission was also swapped out for a turbocharged five-cylinder and a manual six-speed gearbox (another nod to the original car), further reducing weight.

Unlike the Sport Quattro, which was a token 2+2, the Quattro concept only has room for two adults and rolls on a 102.4-inch wheelbase. Behind the seats, there’s space for helmets, a roll cage, or a couple of fire extinguishers. The actual cargo deck extends further, with Audi opting for a classic trunk lid in place of a hatch. The undersides of the Quattro concept’s carbon body panels were left unpainted in another weight-saving measure.

With the exception of wheels, tailpipes, and a signature set of Audi LED light banks, the exterior is pretty straightforward. As a world first, the LED headlights boast dynamic components that vary from horizontal to vertical, and from slit-eyed to wide open. Instead of conventional turn signals, the new light units integrate amber streaks out front and moving yellow brackets at the rear.
