Your Body.

Stickup Kiddz

I posted up on my Facebook recently that folks were throwing dope music my way yesterday, which was very true, but I happened to re-discover a little dope-ness on my own this morning.  The Stickup Kiddz are a California based group that have way too much talent to be filed into a single type of hip hop.  Aside from songs like Turf Banga, Stickup did one of my favorite tracks, entitled “Your Body”, which is essentially a gangsta love track, and the video is quality.  The song and the video are by no means new, but Aris Jerome directed and filmed the video, and because I’m a good friends with Stickup Kiddz, its funny to see homeboys doing their thing in the background of almost every shot.  But check the method below.

Game Rebellion.

Living in northern California has it’s benefits, and its short falls.  One of those short falls is not being able to catch 100% of the impressive music coming out of the east.  Luckily for me I have friends like Toni B. who throw good music my way every so often, and was gracious enough to put me onto a band named “Game Rebellion”.  This all black, (all Brooklyn) rock group (yes rock) has a stable balance of ridiculous, between their metal/punk/skanking elements, and their hip hop/lyrical/head nodding material, which is something not too many others can prove they have.  You can also tell in the video below that each and every member has a white hot passion for music in its purest form, which makes listening the group play their music, so much more than hearing a band.  So I’m not sure how I let “Game Rebellion” slip under my radar, but don’t make the same mistake, check the method below.

Infinite SF’s Grand Opening Party.

March 26th, I don’t know where you’ll be at if you in the Bay Area, but if your in the SF area, make your way down to the new Infinite spot on 627 Post St.  The entire Infinite crew will be celebrating the opening of their new location, yours truly DJ Storm will be in attendance, (there will be free drinks, so you know I’ll be around.)  And if the drinks are your main attraction, come thru for the ridiculous clothing selection.  Infinite has Diamond, Freedminds, Crooks & Castles, Play Cloths, Rebel 8, Benny Gold, GPPR, Mister, Acapulco Gold, and swag to spare.  Check the method.

The ”EP” EP by Childish Gambino.

Childish Gambino

Yes you are reading that name correctly, it is not a stutter. Given that each one of these tracks are FIRE, the best one on the “EP” has to be “Freaks and Geeks.” I have to say though I’m really feeling the clap beat and verse on “Lights Turned On.” Donald Glover has AMAZING talent. They say “The sky is the limit,” but I don’t even think the sky can hold him back from reaching for the stars. Below are the downloads for each individual track and CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD the zip for the “EP.”  If your familiar with Donald Glover, you know he writes for ’30 Rock’, and is a stand up comedian.  But for those of you who aren’t familiar with his non-musical ventures… Check out some of his stand up below.

Wyclef Jean Shot In Haiti.

A spokesman for Wyclef Jean says the he has been released from a hospital after being treated for a gunshot wound to his hand.  Joe Mignon, senior program director for Jean’s Yele Foundation, says Jean was shot in the hand after 11 p.m. local time Saturday in the city of Delmas, just outside Port-au-Prince.  Jean’s brother, Samuel, confirmed the musician was shot. Neither he nor Mignon had additional details.  The shooting comes on the eve of presidential elections in Haiti. Jean is supporting fellow musician Michel Martelly.  Bang bang.

Theophilus London @ 330 Ritch.

There are quite a few pretty ridiculous artists in the hip hop community that I feel don’t get the appropriate recognition, and Theophilus London is a prime example.  Lyrically and conceptually a step ahead of other artists in his bracket, Theo has been on my radar for quite some time, and when I heard that the Above Ground crew was bringing him out to perform at 330, I was juiced.  The show goes down March 23rd at 330 Ritch downtown San Francisco.  Among the list of performers to be standing on the same stage is my good ol’ boy Duckworth, so it’s sure to be a night of great music.  ‘The 87 Stick Up Kids’, Alexander Spit, C Plus and DJ King Most will also be in the building.  All the rest of the info is below, check the method and come through.

Behind The Scenes: Big Sean And Chris Brown.

Check a behind the scenes look at the Big Sean’s video for his first ablum single “My Last” featuring Chris Brown with blond hair, (I’m sorry, I still think he looks like Amber Rose with the hair, but to each-is-own)  Check the method below.

E40 – My Money Straight.

E40 has got his money straight with his new single, and new video.  The song features Black C, Guce, and Yung Jun, and is a single off his double album release, Revenue Retrievin’ Graveyard Shift and Overtime Shift that come out March 29th.  The behind the scenes footage of E-40′s “My Money Straight” is above, filmed and edited by Mark “Malek” Adam, and the actual video is below.  Check the method.

NLA.

So every since the turn of the new year, promoters, and DJ’s alike have been asking me where I get all my drops from.  For those of you outside the club scene, a drop is like your signature if your a DJ, they aren’t easy to make on your own, and if they don’t sound right, its hard to take someone seriously as a professional.  But luckily my boys over at Night Life Audio have been hooking it up with high quality services for respectable prices.  I’ve ordered custom drops from everything to whole mix CD’s, to one-time party ads, and everything has been better than perfect.  Super quick turnaround time, and I always have people in the clubs asking me where I got the drops.  But better than that, NLA has many more services up its sleeve, they specialize in work for Radio, Bands, Video, and all ranges of musical advertising.  Check their website here, and just remember anytime you hear a drop from me in a party, it came from NLA.

Wale – Jump (Freesytle).

Click the pic to take a listen.

Every rap artist puts out a freestyle, but most of the time the beats are new, and intended to either up awareness of the artist or prove you can do better on a track than the original artist.  Wale however has flipped the freestyle cliche by spitting a verse of the Criss Cross classic “Jump Around”.  Click the pic to take a listen, it’s quite genius.  Kudos.

The Sun Drop Commercial.

I have alot of exciting projects going on, revolving around women, including interviews with 2 British beauties, (Carmel Candy, and Jessica Castillo) and a photo series in May with a German hottie.   But the girl in the new ‘Sun Drop’ soda commercial is something else all together. First of all, this commercial should have for sure been a Superbowl ad, and features music from Snoop Dog, and narration from Fat Man Scoop. But more importantly the girl dancing in the commercial is such a G, you just have to respect it. She starts off rather unsuspectingly, opening a soda, (actually in the begining she almost sort of reminds me of a girl named Kari I had a crush on in college.)  But immediately after opening the soda, she uh… “drops it like its hott” and proceeds to dance her ass off for the duration of the commercial.  Check the method.

The Chemical Bros. – Get Yourself High.

No matter how much time my team and I spends digging up articles for this blog, all it takes is a glance a friends Facebook to see something we never would have came up with.  That being said, thanks to Torrey Skye, the video ‘Get Yourself High’ from the Chemical Brothers was brought to my attention.  The video takes after old school Kung Fu movies, with an interesting twist.  The characters have been digitally edited to say the lyrics of the song.  Check the method below.

Wiz Khalifa’s Rolling Stone Cover.

Rolling Stone Magazine has always been one of those publication that has such a reputation that if you’re on the cover, you’ve made it.  Unfortunately Snookie from ‘Jersey Shore’ graced the cover a not too long ago, (I’m not sure why they did that, but I don’t run the publication), and all though I feel like they messed up with Snooki, Wiz Khalifa donning the new Rolling Stone cover makes up for it.  Behind the scenes shots of Wiz rolling weed, with his new blond streak were all filmed during the cover shoot.  Check the exclusive look at the photoshoot from Rolling Stone below.

XXL Freshmen Roundtable Discussion.

XXL recently held a round-table discussion with the 2011 Freshmen.  They discussed everything from their views on the industry to the way the internet has effected their careers.  Check all 3 parts of the discussion out below.

The Game ft. Lil Wayne – Red Nation.

Click the pic to hear "Red Nation"

A collab between Lil Wayne and Game is as dope to me as a collab between Wayne and Eminem, and although this isn’t the first, I personally feel like this is one of the best.  Wayne and Game’s single “My Life” was a dope single, and got a very good positive response from the listening public, but the track “Red Nation” is a whole different animal.  The beat, is a re-imagining of an old school classic (just like tons of other rap songs these days) but they lyrical delivery by both Game and Wayne is attention grabbing to say the least.  There’s a certain ferocity and angst that they both have in representing their set that makes the track pop, and they both manage to do it without dissing Crips, which I found interesting.  But click the pic above to take a listen to “Red Nation” and hear it for yourself.

Travis Barker ft. Pharrell & Lupe Fiasco – If You Want To.

Click the pic to listen. (Courtesy of HHG)

The “I Am Music 2″ Tour is coming around soon and I already got my tickets, but I’m not so much ramped up for Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, or Rick Ross.  Travis Barker has fascinated me as a musician, and as a person for quite some time, (his tattoo artist fascinates me as well) but his new project “Can The Drummer Get Some” had me curious as to what direction he’d take a solo project in.  So hearing “If You Want To” featuring Pharrell and Lupe Fiasco was a great look into the diversity of his upcoming album.  Click the pic to take a listen.

Eminem’s ”Recovery Of Detroit”.

“Recovery of Detroit” is a dope, and actually unexpected mini-documentary by Eminem and his people about his newest concert series in Detroit staring Eminem, D12, Drake, Jay-Z, and Dr. Dre.  The core of the 6 minute film is set around Em obviously, but also takes a look at the economic status of his home city and how people are looking on the brighter side of things when it comes to the city’s “economic resurrection”.  I’m a huge Em fan, so obviously I was enthralled, but all in all the mini movie gives an interesting insight into Eminem’s physical recovery, and the “Revocery of Detroit.”  Check the method.

Trina ft. T Pain – Ghetto.

Click the pic to take a listen.

So over the course of the weekend, caught word of Trina making waves in the music industry again.  I know that artists don’t ever go away until they die, (And even after death Pac managed to put out more albums than Drake), but her collaborating with T-Pain on this one seems to be the reason people are a-buzz about the track.  The whole song is like the opposite of the ‘Blue Collar Comedy’ tour, so if any of the things Trina lists sound like you… You may be ghetto.  But regardless of the song content, I personally like the song, and I’m also a huge T-Pain fan, so click the pic to take a listen to “Ghetto”.

A Snoop Dogg, Star Wars, Daft Punk, And David Beckham Video?

Yes, not only is this true, it’s actually pretty old.  I got into a heated debate on the phone with my working colleague Neil about Snoop Dogg, and I mentioned his participation in the Adidas/Star Wars collab.  Neil instantly called me a liar and told me I was making things up, so I decided to write this post just in case anyone else was unaware of the summer 2010 Adidas ad featuring Snoop Dogg, David Beckham, Daft Punk, and a few other big entertainers.

Further than that, there was a second ad put out by Adidas featuring the same stars shortly after.  I know there are probably sneaker heads (like Gabby) cussing under their breath about how old this is, but I’m just trying to prove a point.

Eminem ft. Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf.

Click the pic to listen.

Tons of people have been clambering for a listen of the new Shady Records 2.0, and the material that they’ll be putting out now that Eminem is their captain.  As it stands, both Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf are already exceptional artists as it is, but when you throw Em into the mix, everything switches up.  So take a listen to the track “2.0 Boys” from Em, Slaughterhouse, and Yelawolf.  Click the pic to hear the song.

Lil Wayne – 6 Foot 7 (Official Video)

Click the pic to watch the video.

I love to laugh, and there’s nothing better than a person with a good sense of humor.  That being said, I feel like the new ”6 Foot 7” Video from Lil Wayne demonstrates the fact that he can get a good laugh out of people.  The video (which has been delayed for quite some time to put the finishing touches on it) starts of with a seemingly random spoof of ‘Inception’ that was directed by Hype Williams, and proceeds to visualize most of the content he talks about in the bars of the song.  The images that come on screen for “Sleep”, “Death”, “Father Time”, and “Mother Nature” are extremely imaginative and very well done, and the image for the line “Young Money runnin sh*t” (above) had me literally laughing out loud.  All in all the song ’6 Foot 7′ is rivaling ‘A Milli’ in popularity, but the video for Wayne’s most recent hit is far more inventive and creative than his hit for the Carter 3.  Bottom line, the video has to be seen to be absorbed in all its splendor… Click the pic to watch the video.

Grafh ft. Waka Flocka Flame – Knock Em’ Down.

It’s been said more than a few times on this blog that Grafh is one of my personal favorites in the rap game.  When he puts his all into a track, there’s such an intense flow and multifaceted lyricism, that makes so much of his music hard to ignore.  Now on the other hand, after my interview with model Gianna DeNinno, I gained a new-found respect for Waka Flocka and his hustle, both inside and out of the music scene.  So when Grafh and Waka teamed up on the track ”Knock Em’ Down”, I was both surprised and intrigued.  The video for the song seems a bit outside of Grafh’s usual super-urban videos, and has him posted in the desert mountains somewhere.  But as the video progressed, I realized that the “middle of nowhere” scenes were most likely Nevada, because soon after Grafh and crew are stuntin all over Las Vegas for the remainder of the video.  Check the method below.

Eminem ft. B.O.B. – Things Get Worse.

Click the pic to listen. (Courtesy of HHG)

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, I’m happen to be a tremendous Eminem fan, and have been since he first came out.  I’m well aware there was a period when he started to lose the “Slim Shady” that made him an undeniable force in the rap game, and I remember what that music used to sound like.  I’m super excited that he’s back in the game, and I was juiced when I heard about his new track with B.O.B., however when the song started, it just reminded me of when Em was losing his Shady so to speak… This lasted for about 13 seconds until Eminem blasted off on a lyrical tangent about Angelina J. giving head, and how Brat Pitt doesn’t can’t do anything about it.  After that, the song was all uphill from there, and truly reminded me of the ultra-witty rhyme-style Em had back in the day.  That in combination with B.O.B. gracing the track with his presence, this one is a sure thing for the repeat bin in my iPhone.

Lil B and Tony Yayo Get Based.

All of my close friends have a very unique sense of humor, and all though we’ve been around each other for years, sometimes I don’t understand it.  So when my brother Reggie and my barber Q continuously harp on the fact that Lil B is the greatest thing to come out since the condom, I wasn’t sure if they were serious or not.  After hearing about his collab with Tony Yayo, I’m pretty sure my boys aren’t the only ones who think Lil B is a force the music industry must recon with.  Check out the new video for “Based” with Lil B and Tony Yayo.
