N*ggas At The Victoria Secret Show.

The Victoria’s Secret fashion show came and went recently, but with quite a fuss this year.  From what I heard via an inside source, all the models this year were “Plus Sized”. (I can’t even TYPE that without rolling my eyes) But by some technical definition, any runway model over a certain size (4 or 6 or some such foolishness) is considered “plus sized”.  But while I was watching the show, all the arguing about this issue was going on until everyone stopped to watch Jay-Z and Kanye West perform their newest hit ‘N*ggas In Paris’ on the runway.  The performance was quite entertaining (with Kanye in his leather chaps), as the models passed down the stage during the song.  Check the video from the show below.

The Wonderful World Of Laura Laine.

Laura Laine is a Helsinki based illustrator.  She has studied fashion design at University of Art and Design Helsinki, but during her studies focused on fashion illustration.  After completing her studies she has been working full-time as a freelance illustrator and is also teaching fashion illustration at the university. Personally I think her work is magical.

The Heart Ring.

Whether for friends or partners, let someone ‘take another little piece of [your] heart‘ with the ‘give you my heart’ ring by Hong Kong’s Innopark Design Studio. two well-placed cuts cleverly transform the continuity of a sterling silver band into a small inset heart shape, left either unfinished or plated in red.  They’re currently on the market for $78.

The Pop Up Shop 2011.

On a recent venture down to The City Of Angels, I was asked to DJ a gig called the Pop Up Shop.  The Pop Up Shop was a brilliant joint venture between ‘Team Iso’, ‘Rockit Scientists’, ‘Class Villians’, ‘Phreedom’, ‘Boomtho!’ and a whole host of other amazing brands to display their latest and greatest works at the Dream Factory.  Not to be confused with the Fantasy Factory, the Dream Factory is a one of a kind art gallery on Main Street in downtown LA.  I spun the all day event as all the brands and their representers were out in full effect.

Now, this is the part that will undoubtedly cause me to get a whole host of angry emails about how I cut people out, and forgot about this person and that person, but I don’t care.  All the brands that were in the house worked their hardest to come through with the best product they had to offer.  Every size of every color-way or every look and every style of every piece were award worthy, hands down.  And that being said, I have to be honest, I was a bit busy doing my job to get the background on every single brand in the building (there were quite a few), but below are a few peeks at some of the material from ‘Rockit Scientists’, ‘Team Iso’, ‘Class Villains’, and ‘Boomtho!’.  Check the method.

All in all the event was a blast, and I have to try and shoot out everyone who helped everything run as smoothly as it did, starting with my amazing assistant Ashley F., who not only held it down at the event, but also managed to take all the photos in this post.  Shouts to Keoni, Brittany, Louis V, Lil Ryan, and the whole Team Iso crew.  Nico Santana, Reg Slvstr, DT, and everyone else involved with the Rockit Scientists.  All of NhT, and every other performer who hit the stage to perform during the evening.  And shouts to all and everyone who came through to support their brands, and most of all, anyone who bought something at the gallery.  (You helped us get paid… so THANK YOU).  By the end of the night, everyone was like family (on my twitter, you can see us all grubbing at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffels on Pico), and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.  Hit me up in a comment if you want the details on the next one, or any of the brands pictured in this post.

New Prada Phone By LG 3.0 For 2012.

LG and fashion label Prada are collaborating for the third time to release the first LG Prada smartphone, the Prada phone by LG 3.0.  The first LG Prada, also known as LG KE850, was the world’s first mobile phone to use a touchscreen display.  The teams behind the design and construction have offered a sneak peek into the handset that will be on offer next fall via an image released by the company.  Neither of the two concerned companies has revealed any information on the upcoming LG Prada phone.  Dr. Jong-seok Park, CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said, “Our working relationship with PRADA is unique in its longevity and success, something no other phone company and luxury brand have been able to replicate.”  Designer labels attached to phones is not a novelty these days considering the Hugo Boss Samsung Galaxy Ace or the BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9981 devices.

The Nike SB Chronicles Pt. 1.

Nike SB has released a dope little trailer for vol. 1 from their video series entitled SB Chronicles.  Filmed on the streets of Amsterdam, Dubai, United States and Hong Kong and directed by Jason Hernandez. The 2012 Louis Vuitton Cruise.

After the overwhelming response I got from the post on the 2012 Campari calendar I started looking for some other interesting ads that folks had planned for 2012.  After a brief search, I found the 2012 Louis Vuitton Cruise ads.  The lovely Arizona Muse is captured by Mark Segal’s camera for Louis Vuitton Cruise, and all the pictures are somewhat reminiscent of classic Bond films.

Givenchy’s ‘Watch The Throne’ Tour T-Shirts.

Recently, Jay-Z and Kanye West rocked the world’s most famous arena during a pair of New York performances for their much-anticipated Watch the Throne Tour. With that, we now get a detailed look at the designer T-shirt they have been donning on stage. Riccardo Tisci was in charge of the intricate art detailing of the actual album, so in appropriate fashion, both emcees have been sporting coinciding Givenchy Watch the Throne shirts. The tees not only feature unique designs from Tisci, which highlight the project, but also welcome each artist’s initials on the sleeve.

The Nike 6.0 2012 Spring Collection.

FINALLY I’m on time with the game when it comes to the release of a shoe collection.  All too often on this blog I’ll find some dope shoes, and either someone on my staff or one of my close friends will gently pull me aside and say “Storm… those are old as HELL.  Everyone has already seen those.”  So when I caught a glimpse of Nike 6.0′s upcoming Spring 2012 footwear collection I danced a little.  Evolving many of its signature pro models via updated colorways and redesigned construction and some new iterations of the Paul Rodriguez V, Mogan Mid 2 SE and the Encore 2, the models incorporate the use of the new Nike Lunarlon cushioning system with an installment of silhouettes including the Braata LR and Zoom LeShot LR. Overall the arrangement maintains a minimally chromatic palette, avoiding overused patterns or textures, but I still find the entire collection quite dope.

How To Love.

Hugh and the Bunnies.

Hugh and the Bunnies. Sometimes you just have to love everyone you can.

Love is something that most people search for, some can do without, and others don’t even try to find.  After a very lengthy conversation with my sister about a few things in my personal life, I got to thinking about love in my life, and how my idea of this may be a bit different from others.  Luckily for me, I found a visual representation of different types of love that steps outside the typical mold of pink hearts and flowers.  Sardinian-born designer Barbara Pala’s “Me + You” series looks at iconic loves from the entertainment world with a fashionable eye.  Some cards step outside the normal boundaries of monogamy, begging the question: what is love REALLY?

The Devil Wears Prada… The Virgin Mary Wears Louis.

The devil may well wear Prada, but at a biennial exhibition of sacred art in Italy, a statue of the Virgin Mary is donning Louis Vuitton.  The veil traditionally covering the Virgin’s head bears the French luxury brand’s trademark “LV” logo in golden letters.  Francesco De Molfetta, 31, said he created the work to “denounce a society based on the cult of appearance through the use of a brand that represents the search for ephemeral happiness.  This new way of interpreting sacred art is along the lines of the famous work presented (in 1999 in Venice by Maurizio) Cattelan that showed a wax icon depicting Pope John Paul II being crushed by a meteor,” the curator of the biennial Giuseppe Bacci told Il Centro.  “It is a way to hit the visitors’ unconscious,” he added.  The biennial is held at Isola del Gran Sasso in the central region of Abruzzo.  Milan native De Molfetta’s works have been on show in Tokyo, at the T20 contemporary art gallery of Murcia Spain and at the museum of Besancon in France.

The Meiosis Backpack.

The Meiosis backpack designed by Davidi Gilad, is an equipment bag which was developed to utilize the physical properties of the elastic materials in which the bag is made.  Sounds complex, but its just a complicated way of saying the bag is strong.  It is constructed from rugged geometric polygonal shapes that harness the tension of the elastic fabrics, which is gained by attaching the rugged parts to the while they are stretched on a frame.  When released, the geometric shapes prevent the fabrics from shrinking back, resulting in the bag’s form and structure.  The tension and flexibility of the design maintains its shape while it is opened and closed.  The bag’s strength and shape is maintained when opening and closing, and it just plain looks cool.

The Puma House.

In sports world, ‘doing stairs,’ is generally a treacherous endeavor that leaves one with burning calf muscles and an overabundance of lactic acid (Cough, cough… wheeze). The Puma House, in Tokyo, is looking at stairs from a whole new angle. Located in the city’s Aoyama design district, the Puma House encompasses the brand’s press room and event zone, all in one dynamic space, allowing for exhibitions, events, fittings, product launches and other media events.

Cool, grey cement is outfitted in warm wood stairs that encircle columns and serve as a repetition of pedestals, showcasing the new sneaker line. The team at Tokyo-based, Nendo, who curated the space explains, “For our design, we placed ‘staircases’ that climb around the existing features of the space like vines. The resulting effect is a strong reminder that we exercise our bodies daily, going up and down stairs, and has a visual connection with stadium stairs and podiums, to bring in PUMA’s important relationship with sports.” Talk about stepping up their game.

Play Cloths x Infinite SF.

I’ve said time and time again on this blog that I’m not necessarily the biggest fashion head on the web, however, this doesn’t mean I don’t have an eye for style.  The Infinite store on Post street in SF is one of the places I’ll always go to expend funds one some dope clothes.  Recently during a meeting in the store I saw a shirt that really caught my eye from the brand ‘Play Cloths’, and figured I’d do some research on the entire holiday collection.  Check the method, and if you like what you see, be sure to head into the store and pick some up.

The 2012 Campari Calendar.

“It’s the end of the world, baby!” is the title of the latest edition of the iconic Campari calendar unveiled last week in Milan.  Inspired by the Mayan prediction that the world will end on 21 December 2012, the Italian drink company’s calendar features a series of photos where Milla Jovovich is portrayed in different end-of-the-world scenarios.  The powerful images were taken by internationally recognized fashion and advertising French photographer Dimitri Daniloff.

Mila, who is wearing haute couture outfits and jewelry by the Swarovski, Messika, Yann Weber, Stéphane Rolland and Paco Rabanne brands among others.  Always accompanied by a bottle or a glass of Campari, the actress shows a resolute attitude as she poses in couture clothes in a series of settings that go from desertification to hurricanes, meteorite showers and an alien invasion.  “It is our mission as an aperitif to offer Campari lovers an intense, positive moment during this time, to celebrate whatever may happen and make a toast to life,” said Campari chief executive Bob Kunze-Concewitz.  The Campari calendar made its first appearance in 2000 and has previously starred celebrities such as Benicio Del Toro, Olga Kurylenko, Salma Hayek, Eva Mendes and Jessica Alba.  Each year, the brand issues only 9,999 copies of the edition and distributes them exclusively to friends of Campari internationally.

‘Break A B*tch Pockets Like Jimmy Choo’.

“Break a b*tch pockets like Jimmy Choo” is a line from one of my favorite songs from Bay Area rapper A.Mo, and it didn’t really strike me how nuts some women go these designer shoes.  It just so happens that Jimmy Choo is celebrating the 15th anniversary of the iconic shoe and accessory brand, by publishing a coffee table book: Jimmy Choo XV.  The luxurious Jimmy Choo Chronicles presents fifteen of their most recognizable shoe designs since the companies launch in 1996.  Also included are studio design sketches, red carpet shots, behind the scenes fashion photography, past advertising campaigns and a host of stunning editorials.  This luxury book is this the perfect Christmas gift for every woman who dons themselves an ardent shoe lover.  It is also 100% of the proceeds go towards the Jimmy Choo Foundation (which raises money for women charities) making it both stylish and worthwhile.  The high-fashioned book will be made available at booksellers across the globe in February of 2012.

$19,000 Golden Shoe Laces.

For $19,000, a company called Mr. Kennedy will make you 24-carat gold laces which take about 120 hrs to make by hand.  “The world’s only precious metal shoelaces” are finely crafted using “ancient, artisan jewelry techniques.”  The man behind the laces is Colin Hart, who named his company after ‘Mr Kennedy’, inventor of the modern-day shoelace.

He explains that shoelaces are boring and hopes that his blinged-out offerings will attract people who enjoy the “practical made special.”  Adding to their exclusivity, only ten pairs of the shoelaces will ever be made.
