Puerto Vallarta’s Fantasy Villa.

This wildly magnificent villa is located at the very tip of Punta Mita, the most northern point of Banderas Bay with views of the Pacific Ocean and across Banderas Bay to Puerto Vallarta with the Sierra Madre Mountains in the background. Casa El Destino, completed in 2008 by Mexico-based architecture firm Possenbacher Design, with interiors completed by California based design firm Barbara Page Interiors. This oceanfront home is a blend of contemporary and colonial Mexico, consisting of 18,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor living featuring seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms.  I’d just be down to relax in the living room with adjoining wet bar, dine in the dining room or enjoy the outdoor eating areas.  Girls can lounge under the grand Palapa, take a swim in the ocean front infinity pool, or enjoy a workout in the fully equipped gym.  All in all this villa comes out to a rate of $7,600-$11,000 per night.

The Freeman Files.

I know that I’ve posted a very wide variety of photography collections up.  Many were pertaining to the wild, the weird, and windows into other worlds, but this collection titled “The Freeman Files” is simply about real life and the way some people live it.  The photos below are just a taste of the immaculate photography Jonathon McNair has cooked up over the last few months to put this lifestyle look book together.  Full publication of ‘The Freeman Files’, does depend on viewer support however, so I enthusiastically encourage readers to head over to ‘The Freeman Files’ site and do what you can in terms of donations.

Water Droplet Photos.

These incredible images are little drops of magic, capturing iconic images within a single droplet of water is something photographer Markus Reugels spends hundreds of hours painstakingly trying to capture.  Mr Reugels, from Schweinfurt, Germany, can spend weeks agonising over snapping the image just at the right moment… but the results are stunning.  In one of his images, an image of the earth from space sits neatly inside the water droplet.  In another, the moon is brought into focus by a single drop of water, the flat image of the background distorted into a spherical result that appears uncannily true to life.  Check the method below.

Kelly Rowland ft. Big Sean – Lay It On Me (Official Video).

Kelly Rowland has been bringing out hits since the earliest days in Destiny’s Child, but since her solo career started, her collabs have been off the chain.  Her newest track featuring Big Sean, titled ‘Lay It On me’ has been gaining popularity since it dropped, and now there’s an official video, check the method below.

Slaughterhouse Studio Footage.

Its rare to find a person unaware that every member of the rap group Slaughterhouse is a lyrical beast.  The BET cypher this year has a special 9 minute finale that includes all the members of Shady 2.0, along with Em himself.  The video below picks up before the start of the BET awards and shows a studio session in ATL with the group.  I was surprised at what an honest, genuine look at the way this group interacts.  Who knew you could have so much fun in the Slaughterhouse?

Real Life Vintage Mugshots.

I didn’t want to insult anyone’s intelligence by putting the words “Real Life” at the beginning of the post, but some of these photographs are so striking that many people may have thought they were designed to look this way.  From the writing on the photos to point out attributes of the criminals, down to the lighting and background of all these incredible pictures… one thing stands out to the most to me.  Back in the day, there weren’t too many black people getting locked up… (INTERESTING.)

The Aston Martin Voyage.

I feel like I just tricked you.   I’m sure you expected some type of uber-sporty track racing contraption from the minds of the folks over at Aston Martin.  However, someone else has taken their design skills in an entirely different direction in an attempt to get Aston Martin to do something unthinkable. A renowned yacht designer has unveiled a new concept yacht based on the luxury vehicles of supercar maker Aston Martin.  The Aston Martin Voyage boat was inspired by Aston Martin vehicles such as the Vantage, Rapide, DBS and Virage and was unveiled last week.  De Basto, a Miami-based custom yacht designer, put together the concept as a way to test whether the car brand’s signature design could be transposed onto water.

The answer seems to be an emphatic yes, with the design clearly paying tribute to Aston Martin while absorbing the necessary nautical features.  The roof line, window shapes, front and rear lights, side ventilation, hood details and famous frontal grill are all design features of the car carried over to the boat.  Sadly, the model is very much a concept, and de Basto makes clear that although he has Aston Martin’s permission for the use of their name in the concept, it’s not intended for production or any commercialization.  However, with other brands such as Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and Lancia already lending their names to high-performance boats, perhaps Aston Martin will reconsider sometime soon?

The ‘Weekend Cabin’.

Built in 2005 in Mazama, Washington, and designed by Tom Kundig, the Delta Shelter is 1,000 square feet of modernist retreat. It measures 20×20, sits three stories tall, and has 10×18 steel shutters that are opened or closed via a hand-cranked wheel.  The ‘Weekend Cabin’ isn’t necessarily about the weekend, or cabins. It’s about the longing for a sense of place, for shelter set in a landscape…for something that speaks to refuge and distance from the everyday. Nostalgic and wistful, it’s about how people create structure in ways to consider the earth and sky and their place in them. It’s not concerned with ownership or real estate, but what people build to fulfill their dreams of escape. The very time-shortened notion of “weekend” reminds that it’s a temporary respite.

BMW Laser Lights?

BMW will introduce the next generation of head lights (laser lighting on its BMW i8) that could cut energy use in half compared to LED lights.  The laser beam headlights will be twice as efficient as LEDs, and can be up to 1,000 times stronger.  BMW will use miniscule 10-micron long laser diodes, which is 100 times smaller than LED units, in the vehicle.  The small size of the laser diodes will also allow engineers to experiment with new positioning of the headlights.  In their press release on the subject, BMW emphasizes that the laser lights would be safe for both drivers and wildlife.  The laser diodes are not facing forward shining out on the road. Instead, the light would be diffused using a ”fluorescent phosphor material” inside the headlight.  BMW’s laser lighting will get its first airing in the BMW i8 concept. With a production model of that vehicle set to launch in 2013.

Georgina Chapman Dresses.

Women’s fashion isn’t necessarily my area of expertise, (if I had my way, a corset and boy shorts would be the standard for going out clothes).  But having an ever increasing number of model clients, is getting me more into appreciating the formal styles that compliment a woman’s look.  Georgina Chapman is someone who a few of my runway models have been pointing out to me for a while. They’ve adored her collection since she and Keren Craig began in 2004.  The delicate lace, soft satin and the tattooed legs (are they stockings? I cant tell) all come together to make another collection I’ll view over and over in admiration of both her style and the bad-ass models wearing it.

Your House Is On Fire… What Do You Take?

It’s a conflict between what’s practical, valuable and sentimental. What you would take reflects your interests, background and priorities. Think of it as an interview condensed into one question. With nearly 250 submissions and growing each day, the Burning House is a truly fascinating project.  Check some examples out below.

A December To Remember.

Normally when you think about horror, the month that comes to mind is October.  However, the folks over at 328 Studios have cooked up a different tail of horror.  Creepy, edgy, and ending with quite the shocking twist, this epically original short film tell a terrifying tale from an angle you wouldn’t expect.  I highly suggest you watch the entire thing until it’s end.

Method Man Rapping For Sour Patch Kids.

When I saw a post appear on my twitter timeline which shared that new Method Man track featuring the Sour Patch kids, I was obviously intrigued. I mean… What?! I hit play and spent the next 3 minutes both smiling like a 4 year old and trying to figure out why Meth was rapping about Sour Patch Kids.

The Eminem x Nike Collection.

I’ve been a massive Eminem fan for quite some time, but still never necessarily associated his name with sneakers.  Names like Michael Jordan, Dwayne Wade, and Kobe Bryant are all much more likely to bring the ‘shoe game’ to mind, but after you see the Brisk Bodega video showcasing Em’s shoe collabs, you may think differently.  Check the method below.

The New Hamburg Science Center.

The Office for Metropolitan Art (OMA) has just revealed their final design for the New Hamburg Science Center and Aquarium. The structure, which will be 23000 meters square of space, will house a science centre, aquarium, theatre, offices, laboratories as well as commercial and retail facilities. The structural design consists of 10 interconnecting blocks that will form the shape of a ring. Not only is the design of the structure trying to encourage new structural forms, but also as being a leader in adapting new environmental technologies included in its’ construction.

Underwater Photo, Or Baroque Painting?

With all of her effects created in-camera using the refraction of light and movement in different depths of water, Christy Lee Rogers creates pictures that look like Baroque paintings without the help of Photoshop. Her obsession with water as a medium coupled with her dedication to photography as an artistic medium, makes her work truly stand out.  Her subjects are wrapped in fabric, bathing in darkness. The water allows the bodies and fabric to move slowly and fluidly. Rogers shoots in swimming pools at night and her sessions can last two to four hours. The night’s natural darkness helps her achieve the black background she needs to surround her subjects in.

In this latest collection she calls Odyssey, Rogers explores such grand themes as birth, life and death. “The story of Odyssey exists in clumps of ideas and energy, griping emotions and the simplicity of truth beyond words,” she explains to us. “Like Homer’s epic Odyssey, life is an exciting and tumultuous adventure filled with thrilling characters to meet along the way. But metaphorically, Odyssey is a much bigger story than that, where the attributes and abilities of mankind soar to an unseen, indescribable level.”  More than anything, Rogers wanted to impart a sense of wonder and tranquility, to provide a bit of solace from our hectic, everyday lives. In addition she says, “The work of an artist lies in manifesting their inner world externally, so you are also experiencing my quest for the answers to life and the knowledge that’s contained in and around it.”

Behind The Scenes With Trina.

Recently, Trina and Mr. Collipark got together to put out the track “Red Bottoms”.  Personally, I feel like with Trina’s obvious absence from the rap game, a new release may have been met with some skepticism by many, but rest assured Red Bottoms seems to be quite the banger.  The behind the scenes video by Derrick G, and 305 Films shows a little of the thought process behind the video, and even some looks things like dancers rehearsals.  Aside from the back up dancers, (including the world famous, Chi Town based ‘Footwork Kings’) Trina herself engages in some pole dancing wearing a wild yellow outfit and of course her Red Bottoms.  Director Gil Green, seems to have put together what could possibly be quite the comeback record for Trina.  With all the different dancers, different styles of dance, and Trina’s… talents on screen, this video should be a memorable one.  Check the method below.

The ‘Art’ Of Cleaning Up.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is nothing to be taken lightly.  It can be a very debilitating condition that may hinder almost every part of a persons life.  However, that doesn’t mean that it can’t produce some pretty incredible artwork.  Now, I’m not saying the photographer Ursus Werhli is a sufferer of OCD, but the collection of photos titled ‘The Art Of Cleaning Up’ and the work put in on it, definitely suggests that OCD had something to do with it.

Burning Man Re-Visited

Not too long ago, I threw up a post about a photographer at the Burning Man event, and his 1-man photo studio.  After that, I had quite a few people from the east asking me what exactly the event is, if I figured I’d give the event a bit more of profile for those who don’t know.  Burning Man is an annual event that takes place in Black Rock, two and a half hours away from Reno Nevada. People describe the Burning Man event as a self-expressive and a self-reliance community.   Check out some other pics below.

The Bent Forest.

In a tiny corner of western Poland a forest of about 400 pine trees grow with a 90 degree bend at the base of their trunks – all bent northward. Surrounded by a larger forest of straight growing pine trees this collection of curved trees, or “Crooked Forest,” is a mystery.  Planted around 1930, the trees managed to grow for seven to 10 years before getting held down, in what is understood to have been human mechanical intervention. Though why exactly the original tree farmers wanted so many crooked trees is unknown.  Several possibilities come to mind.  It’s obvious that the trees were bent when very young, then recovered.  Those who live near large lakes with prominent ice heaves will have seen trees affected in this manner, and a similiar effect could occur after a blowdown by straightline winds.  However…  I get the sense that this forest is a tree farm, because of the uniformity of age of the trees, and I suspect this is a man-made curvature, because of the similarity of all the trees involved.  If that’s true, then my best explanation would be that these trees were trained as “compass timbers” for shipbuilding or as material for other woodworking.

Riesling and Rolling Papers.

The other day, my barber Quincy randomly posed the question to me… “Who do you think is better, Pusha T, or Fab?”  (Meaning Fabolous).  My immediate response was “Why would you ask me such things?”, but that was simply a way of dodging having to actually answer the question.  A majority of the people in the room agreed that Pusha T was an incredible rap artist (which is very true any which way you spin it.)  but the whole conversation get me seriously over-analyzing the issue.  For fear of an epic, world-ending, Xerxes size army of angry emails, I still can’t say publicly who my personally opinion favors, however, the new video ‘Riesling and Rolling Papers’ from Fabolous has made a big difference on my answer to Q’s question.

Yeah, Thats A BOAT.

Not too long ago, I was in Miami for work (and play), and I had the immense please of getting to see the “Never Say Never”.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with awesomeness, the “Never Say Never” is the boat on which the SNL comedy sketch ‘I’m On A Boat’ was filmed.  I don’t typically get star struck, but for some odd reason, seeing that particular boat was mesmerizing.  That being said, this post is about a boat that dwarfs the “Never Say Never” in every way possible.  The 55 metre superyacht Quinta Essentia, the largest vessel ever launched by the Netherlands’ Heesen Yachts, has been listed for sale for $100 million.  With sleek exterior lines by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, the yacht’s most striking feature is a grand swimming pool on the aft deck complete with a waterfall.  The yacht has a very modern interior by Ken Freivokh Design and Michela Reverberi with metallic silver accents.
