Geof Kern stands among the most awarded American photographers. With an unfettered imagination he worked for the most creative magazines and ad agencies. His very distinctive work is a combination of rationalism and conceptualism, inspired by “post-modernist” painters. Geof Kern works on a storyboard before shooting, creating images with a particular cinematographic mood and capturing a very original world. His photographs are exhibited all around the world.
I’ve been getting more and more in touch with music from ‘over the pond’ recently, and came across a super dope remix of “Night Is Young”. The track features the musical talents of Nelly Furtado, and lyrics from the Godfather of Grime himself Wiley, and is remixed by ‘Sketch Iz Dead’. Normally I’d tell you to click the pic to get a hold of the song, but the powers that be have rendered the song itself too exclusive for civilians right now, so check the youtube video below to get a whiff of this greatness. If you want to get a hold of the song itself, (I can’t make guarentee’s) but, hit Wiley up on twitter @Wileyartist.
Shout outs to DJ Roy Rovelli
Some of my friends whom I’ve traveled with have noticed this weird way that I fold my towels, and feel the need to make fun of me for it. But did it even occur to you that one day you maybe wiping your hands and face with an area of your towel and the next day using the same area for “other” areas? It does to me, and I’d personally like to avoid wiping my face where my @ss used to be. The solution for hygienic wipe-ups is either washing the towel everyday or using the True Clean Towel. The clever design highlights a “body”, indicating the head, bottom and torso. Using a line from their info – “While the concept is of course meant to be funny, I think many couples will, when sharing a towel, appreciate the road map.”
Ever look at macro photos of water splashes or super slow mo’ video of a droplet slamming into the surface sending ripples across a lake? There’s a moment in that 1/10 of a second when the impact creates a crater or sorts, as if you were small enough, it could neatly cup you. Inspired designer Michael Wendel created a 1/8th scale model called the Splash Lounge Chair, big enough for us to sit in.
How It Was Made: The chair was sculpted at 1/8th scale using Sculpey clay. From there, the model was cut into ¼ inch slices. These slices were scanned, blown up to full scale, and plotted to be used as a template for the full scale model. From there, the templates were adhered to 2 inch pink insulation foam, cut out, and assembled to the full scale form. Countless hours of sanding later, the form was coated in 4 coats of Elmer’s glue to protect the foam from resin. After the glue was dried, the form was sprayed with chopped fiberglass using a chopper gun. Once dried, the fiberglass was sanded down, then coated with Bondo. After sanding the Bondo as smooth as possible, it was painted with high epoxy glossy white paint.
A new supercar under the Fenix Automotive banner and shares similarities with the old M12 and M400 cars, while it shares features like the general shape and specs as that of the Noble M600. The Fenix will be powered by a choice of Chevrolet V8 powerplants, so customers can choose between 480 Horsepower LS3 or the 638 HorsepowerLS9 from the Corvette ZR1. It has a projected curb weight of just 2,645 pounds which aids the supercharged Fenix to sprint from 0-100mph in under 7 seconds and also reach a top speed of 200 mph.
The company is developing its first prototype at it’s manufacturing facility in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The level of performance and sophistication that Fenix offers is way better than the rival thorough bred sportscar at almost half the price. The Fenix supercar is expected to go on sale in the UK in the second half of 2010 and US as well. Keep in mind, these are some of the first images to be released.
The To Be Touched Range is a series of intuitive light controllers for the LivingColors series by Philips Design. The models in this range from a simple on/off switch to one that includes a dimmer. The beauty in these switches is the visual color effect that they imbibe. The color saturation and intensity are directly proportionate to the lighting settings chosen. So a deep color ring suggests that the lights are at their brightest. It also has a proximity-detection and sleep-mode: The device wakes up, showing the color ring, when a finger approaches. If no one is within range of the device after 15 seconds the backlight is switched off and the device goes into sleep mode.
How it works
“The main iconic color ring is touch-based and backlit for direct feedback / feedforward. It therefore can change its appearance depending on which functionality mode is selected by using the touch mode buttons with intuitive icons above the ring (for example color, saturation and intensity for the color user interface). With the To Be Touched user interfaces you have a choice of an infinite variety of colors –at the touch of a finger. In short, you control light with light.”

So as many people know from my twitter, I took a trip to the University of Southern California to spend homecoming doing what I do best with the L.U.L.’s on campus. My assistant and I packed up with an L.U.L. from New York to partake in the events, and what ensued was one of the most ridiculous weekends I’ve had all year. I didn’t have a camera with me, so I did the next best thing, and documented the trip with my cell phone. All the pictures below are in chronological order, but as you may notice, there is a lack of names, faces and explanations for whats going on in the photos. I had to be very careful to ensure certain people’s anonymity, and protect other people’s privacy. Many of the people in the photos have well paying jobs and that’s not something I want to screw up. So I did the best of my ability to document everything over the weekend without airing anyone out. Check the method, and just keep in mind there are about 100 more pictures I actually took, and anything you see was 50 times wilder in real life.
I’m pretty sure that I’ve stated before that I used to be a 3D animation major at the Academy of Art University before DJ’ing took off for me, (if you didn’t know, you know now) so I always try to check back in with the animation world whenever I can. When I came across “The Lady And The Reaper” I had to post it. The story is about an old lady is nearing the end of her days and she longs to be with the husband she has lost. So, when death pays her a visit on night in the form of a rather comical Grim Reaper then she touches his extended hand without fear. Only, she has not considered that a meddling doctor on our side of the great divide will decide that she must be resuscitated. It’s quite hilarious, and the short film was even nominated for the Academy Award for best short animated film.
Seems like every so often in an abusive relationship, the two people involved leave, but just feel the need to come back and do it again eventually. Same thing with Rihanna and Eminem apparently. They’ve come together again to further the story of abusively love over a new gentler beat with the same serious tone and with Rihanna in the forefront this time. There’s no doubt with this team up a second time around, they’ll do their best the beat the living crap out of this collab, and physically molest the pop charts with its success. ‘Hollow’ is an organic pavilion that changes the conditions for social interaction and behavior. Simply built, using compression to hold the structure, the concept is designed by Visiondivision (Ulf Mejergren and Anders Berensson) as their competition entry for sukkah city, where designers / architects were asked to design a modern sukkah (a temporary hut created for an annual jewish harvest festival) in union square, new york city. Some of the constraints implied in the competition, for example, was that the sukkah had to have a roof made out of branches, but that they could not be in bundles. This in turn influenced visiondivision’s decision to use the construction technique of compression to build ‘hollow’. The competition asked teams to design a sukkah to be erected in one of the most populated and dense places on earth, filled with built structures and a stressful ambience, changing its function from its initial protection purpose from sandy winds and a blazing sun to a shelter from building mass, infrastructure, scale, city pace and constant movement. The swedish duo’s intention is to build something which contrasts the scale and pace of the rest of the city. When entering the sukkah, you automatically slow your pace and behaviour, switching to more restful position as a result of the physical restrictions which make up the small space.
So I’ve played a few gigs in the last week, and have been spinning a mix that tons of people have been asking me to throw up on the blog. When I first heard “Like A G6″ from ‘The Far East Movement’ the first thing I thought of mixing with it was “Tell Me When To Go”. I know “Tell Me When To Go” is quite dated, but who says you can’t bring back a classic. So download the song, and enjoy.
We all know I’m far to young to be a 60′s baby, but the artwork from the time has always fascinated me. It started from some of the ad posters from the old school James Bond movies and continued to strike me as impressive to this day, so seeing these pieces brought me back to my childhood. They come from multiple illustrators, but all convey the same sexy/dangerous, suave/distinguished vibe that was portrayed in so much of 60′s media.
A while back, I had posted up Weezy’s first letter from confinement, and now I’ve found his last. I believe Weezy F. Baby (Please say the ‘Baby’) is currently out of prison. Below is his final letter.
Hello world! My world! Our world!
As I greet you all in my last days on this island, I must reflect. I think back to when I first arrived and I had no clue of what I’d be experiencing. I was never scared, worried, nor bothered by the situation. For that, I thank God, my family, and you, my amazing fans. I prayed for you all every night, as I’m aware that I was in your prayers as well. The very first day that I received mail, it was about 300 pieces or more! I smiled like a child of Christmas. But when I began to read them, my heart smiled. I laughed with some of you, reasoned with some of you, and even cried with some of you. I responded to as many of you that time would allow. I plan to keep reading and responding after my release. I thank you all for being so very supportive, as I never imagined how much impact my words and life can have. With this knowledge, I vow to continue to be me! For you have assured time that I don’t have to change for no one but God. I will be the same Martian I was when I left, just better. You fans are more than amazing, and I will for to the end of the world for your love. This isn’t the last of weezythanxyou.com I will continue to thank you when I’m home.
I simple LOVE you all.
P.S. Thanx for supporting my YM team the way you do!!
Now I like to thank my wonderful family and friends for never letting me down. Your love and support is worth the world. I am grateful for you all and I couldn’t have done it without your love. Also, I thank everyone who came to visit me. That shit meant a lot, straight up! I would do the same, if not more for you.
Now I must dedicated something to the woman in the…
…sitting on this bed with my back against one of the four walls I’ve been confined to, all I can think of is you. Staring at you staring at me, from the picture of you that I see. I try so hard to make the picture smile. You look so serious. Seriously beautiful. You, me, we are one. Then I look further to the right and there’s a picture of “the bed by the water”… where I dream to be with the woman in the picture that still won’t smile. I sometimes talk to the picture, but it never responds. Although, I’ve been told that a picture speaks a thousands words, I only wish that this picture would speak of four… “I love you too.” That would be the perfect response to what I frequently say to it. You see, the picture of “the bed by the water” has sand in it, and the woman in the other picture has sand in her hair… put them together, and she’s there. And when I dream, I’m there with her. Shhh… quietly these four walls become that place in the picture. And the woman in the picture begins to whisper… “I love you too”… she responds!
And now she smiles. Imagination is perfect.
Dedicated to the woman in the picture.
Gone!
This beautiful house with direct view on Lake Hollywood combines glass and stone in an elegant and luxurious finish. The spaces are opened and the shapes rectangular for the most part. The fascinating floating living room has completely retractable windows inviting the nature within through the carefully designed terrace. The metal details on the wooden walls add a studied roughness, completely unexpected when first looking at this stylish interior. I like the multi bauble ceiling lamp from the kitchen, it’s a new interpretation of a classic cooking space.
A while back, I wrote about Eminem’s collaboration with Pink on the track “Won’t Back Down”, and how on paper, it may be confusing, but it’s not as strange to actually hear it. Nicki Minaj teaming up with Eminem is still a bit strange when you hear the song, (produced by Swizz Beatz), but they have a very similar swag that I never personally realized before, and they compliment each other quite well, and both have pretty strong verses. Click the pic to listen to the song.
In addition to Oakley, Gucci will also be rolling out 3D eyeglasses to target the high-end consumer electronics shopper. Gucci’s version bears its familiar green and red web stripe detail at the temples and center brow bar, and a “Gucci 3D” logo on the right lens. The Gucci 3-D glasses contain a high tech multi-layered mirrored coating which allows the wearer to view themselves in a mirror without distortion. The mirrored coating not only provides a premium look as well as offers superior viewing and contrast enhancement, but also allows over 98 percent of visible light through, therefore not affecting viewing in a cinema environment. An anti-reflective coating has been applied to the back of the lens for additional overall image quality by reducing scattered light, glare and blue light.” Luxist reports that Gucci’s 3D glasses will be sold at Gucci boutiques in the U.S. next month for $225. The new glasses will be part of Gucci Eyeweb Collection, and produced under license by Safilo Group.
