Kanye West’s Album Cover BANNED In The U.S.

The Original Cover Art for "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy"

For reasons unknown to me, (or to Kanye West, apparently) his album cover for ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy‘ was banned yesterday.  Kanye’s twitter has been atwit with tweets about the subject all day long.  (I told you I could used the word “Atwit” in a sentence Chris, you owe me $100).  Maybe because it’s a black man and a white woman, in which case I may be in trouble, but who knows.  Hopefully details about the reasons behind the ban will come out soon, but lets see how long it takes his people to come up with a new cover, and how dope the second draft will be.

All City Chess Club – I’m Beamin (Remix)

The All City Chess Club, which Lupe describes as being more of a movement than a group, consists of himself, Asher Roth, B.o.B, The Cool Kids, Charles Hamilton, Blu, Wale, Diggy, J. Cole, and Pharrell.  “It’s kinda this new vanguard,” Lupe says. “The kids who wouldn’t necessarily be the basketball team they would probably be the Chess Club if we was in high school. And I was like ‘Yo, we all from different cities. We the All City Chess Club.’”  Lupe went on to explain the dynamics of the All City Chess Club and its members.  “I just wanted it to be the collective of those dudes and put a name on it,” said Lupe. “Like they already kinda put us all in the same box. They kinda put us in the same family of MC’s whether it be the hipster rappers or the nerd rappers…Since they putting us in a box, might as well own the box. And write our name on the box and paint it the color we want it.”

The first single from the entire conglomerate is Lupe’s remix to I’m Beamin.  Click the pic to download.

Everyone Loves a “Fresh Blow”

Before anyone starts commenting anything, or my work phone starts blowing up in relation to inappropriateness, this post has NOTHING to do with my love of felatious women.  This post isn’t about anything dirty at all, on the contrary it’s about something quite “clean”.   The Fresh Blow is a product designed to replace boring mundane air fresheners with something fun and energetic. You blow up a balloon thru an aromatic capsule and release it. As the balloon whizzes around frantically, fresh aromatics fill your room.

There are other ways to use Fresh Blow too. When you need an instant pick me up, twist open the capsule and take a direct hit, getting a full whiff to awaken your senses. There’s even a time release option by letting the balloon slowly deflate with the capsule still attached ensuring freshness throughout the day along with that slight whistle that sounds like farts.

Throwback Music Video 2.

This one, just like my first throwback video (Missy Elliot – Get Your Freak On) isn’t that dated.  It’s only about 8 years old, debuting in 2002, but just like ‘Get Your Freak On’, this song has some sentimental value. (I even slipped a short sample of the song into ‘Cocktails & Condoms’).  ‘I Know What You Want’ from Busta Rhymes ft. Mariah Carey & The Flipmode Squad is my all time favorite song, and I’m pretty sure I’ve almost made some babies to this track.  So when it came on just a minute ago while my iTunes was on shuffle, and I had to go and watch the video.

Stephen Eastwood Photography.

Stephen Eastwood

Stephen Eastwood has been taking photos for over a decade now, and his work shows.  Specializing beauty photography, he started out as a fitness model at the age of 18, and did mostly body shots.  He moved on to start taking beauty photos, high fashion and maxim styled glamor photos.  Each of the works I’ve seen from him express an incredible attention to detail, composition of the shot, and control over color in an incredible way.  He’s currently living and working in New York where he was raised.  To get more information on Stephen Eastwood can be found here.

DJ Storm x Lauren Johnson Photography = ‘The Moments I Live For’

There always comes a time when you wish people could see exactly what you see, through your eyes, the way you experience things. Until science fiction catches up with us, and we can see other peoples memories, there’s not too much anyone can do to share an experience. The closest thing I’ve seen however, is a series of shots my good friend and photographer Lauren Johnson took recently at the ‘Fame’ party at Sutra Nightclub in San Francisco. Trung Tran and his crew at Set4Life invited me to the party to do my thing, and I brought L.J. along for the ride. What she captured is the closest I’ve seen to the actual experience of having a crowd rockin’ to my mixes, the atmosphere of being on stage, the excitement of the party, and the way the club looks after 13 too many shots of Vodka. All in all it was a great night and an awesome party. Once again I have to thank Trung Tran and Set4Life, my assistant Ashley, and Lauren Johnson for coming through and capturing the moments I live for in such a unique way.

The BET Cypher w/ Yelawolf

I didn’t get a chance to check the BET awards the other day, but the one thing I knew I would hear about the next day was “The Cypher”.  (The black & white filmed, circle of emcees with a simple beat in the back where artists can just spit their lyrics in the rawest form.)  Several emcee’s were featured in The Cypher Part 1 this year, but the most impressive to me was Yelawolf, the white emcee from Alabama, check the method below.

And I KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that some people are thinking that this is just a plug for this Tuesday, but it’s not.  I really do enjoy Yela’s flow.  And in case you didn’t know what I meant by “Tuesday”, Yelawolf, Tokyo 24, Stickup Kidz, Jay Ant, J Espinosa, and yours truley DJ Storm will be tearing up 330 Ritch in downtown San Francisco thanks to Above Ground, Infinite, and Beats: By Dre.  Make sure that if your in the Bay, your in the building come October 19th.  (Shameless promotion out the face.)

Tokyo Mandarin

To celebrate its fifth anniversary, the five-star Mandarin Oriental Tokyo hotel is offering the opportunity to rent the entire property for one night… for $670,000.  Under the plan, the entire hotel – 178 guest rooms, all nine restaurants and all spas — would be reserved from 3:00 in the afternoon to noon the next day.  There will also be the option to have a cocktail party for 500 people featuring pastries from an award-winning Japanese pastry chef.  If someone actually does take the hotel up on this offer the hotel plans on submitting the stay to the Guinness Book of World Records.  Gen Yoshida, the hotel’s communications officer, says it is the first time for any Mandarin Oriental to offer such a package. The offer is available until Nov. 30, 2011.  The Mandarin Oriental Hotel is situated in the financial Nihonbashi district of Tokyo, next to the Bank of Japan and the largest Mitsukoshi department store, overlooking the Imperial Palace and Gardens on one side and The Bay of Japan on the other.  Designed by the famous Japanese textile designer, Reiko Sudo, the hotel is finished with lots of wood and natural textures.  The rooms, all prepared with yoga mats, are on the 30th to 36th floors, and the huge windows provide spectacular views over Tokyo.

Distorted Illustrations.

I’m a huge fan of many different types of illustration, but I started coming across different examples of distorted illustration, I fell in love with the style.  These pics below are all from the same artist, but I was unable to obtain enough information to relay it in the post.  The meticulous attention to detail require to pull off pictures like this are what attract me to them the most.  Check the method below.

The Pouring Light Lamp.

Human actions play such a significant role in design; it’s either evident in the form or in the function. In the Pouring Light, the action is evident in the form and is delightfully executed as well. With the motive of giving off “an emotional flow of light”, the lights linger on with a mesmerizing effect thanks to the use of phosphorescence in the “water” part. Yeongwoo suggests the use of LED lights to conserve energy, and my suggestion to him: get this in the market ASAP son.

G.O.V. – ‘The Vagina’ (Episodes 1 and 2)

G.O.V.

I normally don’t do artist profiles unless that artist comes out with a new product in their own medium, but when my boy, the lyricist G.O.V. crossed over and started putting out themed interview episodes, I had to put them up.  If you don’t remember G.O.V. from “Like A Cavalier” or “The Future“, then you sure will remember him from “The Vagina”.  These video’s have nothing to do with crazy vocals, or ridiculous lyrical abilities, but are just as good.  G.O sits contently in a room, and is interviewed about different topics related to… the vagina.  Check the method below, and be warned, while these videos are quite informative, they are not for children.

The 2010 Zenvo ST1

Zenvo Automotive was founded with one goal in mind. To produce a unique hand built supercar. The developing of the prototype started in 2004. The prototype is completed and the car is in the last testing phase. In 2009 Zenvo Automotive will start the series production of the car, Zenvo ST1. It will be a very limited edition and only 15 cars will be built and sold to special approved customers.

The idea behind the car was to hand build a high performance super car which will meet today´s standards but still keep the original and unique feeling of driving a supercar. The car will have excessive power due to both supercharger and turbo, but will still be drivable for everyday use.

The car is 100% build in Denmark and the design is a result of Danish design. The developing and production are taking place in our hyper modern production hall with all the best equipment available. Since we work very tight with most of our partners we try to use local suppliers. This makes us able to communicate better and to follow the developing much closer to obtain the best possible result.

Transformers 3 Crash.

Crashes come early and often in Michael Bay’s Transformers movies, but this one wasn’t in the script: Bumblebee, the superstar Camaro Autobot, T-boned a real Washington, D.C., police Tahoe on the first day of filming for Transformers 3. (Blame the terrorists) A bomb technician in a marked SUV, on his way to a suspicious package, roared into an area of 3rd St. on the Washington Mall that had been closed for filming by other D.C. cops, who reportedly were on a different radio frequency.  The Chevy SUV dodges an Autobot convoy led by the semi Optimus Prime and into the path of Bumblebee entering from Maryland Ave. The officer, stunt driver (spoiler) and Tahoe suffered minor injuries. Bumblebee took it on the chin however.

The scene was supposed to involve damage to a Decepticon Corvette.

Underwater Hotel Room.

This is NOT Photoshop

What’s one way to show a little spontaneity in an un-adventurous vacation? How about a meeting under the sea. Ithaa, the world’s first all-glass undersea restaurant at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, is celebrating its fifth anniversary by turning its underwater restaurant into a suite built for two.   The Maldives resort is offering guests the chance to spend the night under-water by turning the restaurant into an exclusive suite for two, complete with a private champagne dinner and breakfast in bed. (Caveat: Private in this sense means more underwater sea creatures and less humans.) Resting16 feet below the Indian Ocean, the restaurant-turned-romance room is surrounded by a vibrant coral reef and encased in clear glass. Using aquarium technology, “Ithaa” meaning “pearl”in the Maldivian language of Divehi, was built to allow guests to enjoy the color, clarity and beauty of the Indian Ocean without getting their feet wet.  Diners at Ithaa Undersea Restaurant enjoy a set-menu of 23 different dishes over four courses. The restaurant is adults-only for dinner (children can join for lunch) and it only seats 12 people.   The cost of this little luxury? $320 per person for dinner. Want to spend the night? The price is available upon request, depending on your dates of travel.

Jaguar’s C-X75 PHEV

205 MPH Top Speed, 68 Miles Electric Range
Car makers, especially those who specialize in sporty or luxury vehicles, have a long tradition of making super-car concepts for motor shows. Sometimes they later end up in production, but most of the time bits and pieces are recycled into different, more watered-down models. Jaguar has unveiled just such a beast, and – at least on paper – it has pretty decent green potential. Read on for more photos and details.

Power and Top Speed
The four electric motors produce 145 kW (195 bhp) and 400 N·m (295 lb-ft) each, for a total power of 580 kW/780 bhp. Top speed is 330 km/h (205 mph), acceleration from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) is achieved in 3.4 seconds, and from 80-145 km/h (50-90 mph) in 2.3 seconds.

“The mid-mounted 70 kW (94 bhp) micro gas-turbines can generate a combined 140 kW (188 bhp) to charge the batteries and extend the range of the car to 900 km (560 miles)–or, when in Track mode, provide supplementary power directly to the electric motors. The four electric motors provide torque-vectored, all-wheel drive traction and grip, which Jaguar deems essential in a car that produces 1,600 N·m (1,180 lb-ft) of torque.”

All this power seems overkill, and I’d much rather see a car that looks just as good but is less powerful, lighter, and gets a longer electric range and then gets better fuel economy once the battery is drained.

But still, the Jaguar C-X75 has an electric range of 110 kilometers (68 miles). Since the average American rarely drives more than 40 miles in a day, and that number is probably lower for Europeans, this means that if this supercar was plugged in every night, it could conceivably be greener (at least when it comes to usage) than a much less powerful car like a Honda Fit or whatever.

All of this is theoretical. The C-X75 might never reach production, and if it does, it would probably stay a small-volume model. But if this design project has helped Jaguar engineers to get familiar with series hybrids and electric cars, and to develop new technologies that can push the field forward, then it’ll be worth it. I’d rather see automotive engineers work on these kinds of things than ever larger V8s like in the 1990′s and early 2000′s.

Yelawolf At 330 Ritch

The video above is of rapper Yelawolf tearing down the stage at a fools gold party in New York.  He will be in SF for the Wake and Bake show October 19th.  After the Wake and Bake concert however, if your located in the Bay Area, head on over to 330 Ritch, Yelawolf will be in the building, along with myself, Tokyo 24, Stickup Kidz, J. Espinosa, and Jay Anthony.  The party is being put together by the one and only ‘Above Ground’, and there will be giveaways from Infinite SF, and the party is sponsored by “Beats: By Dr. Dre”.  It’s going to be a HUGE event, dress to impress, doors open at 10, and its 18+ in the spot, so anyone can come through.  See you there.

T.I. Making Records, And Saving Lives.

T.I. played Superman today, talking a suicidal jumper off the ledge.  According to TMZ, cops responded to a 911 call about a man who was threatening to jump off a building in downtown Atlanta … the same building where Ryan Cameron’s Radio Show on V103 is based.  T.I. heard about the jumper on the radio — and called Ryan Cameron to see if there was anything he could do to help out with the situation.  Ryan Cameron tells TMZ … he told T.I. to roll over to the building, where the rapper met with police and recorded a heartfelt video message which cops then played for the man on the roof.  After the man saw T.I.’s video he agreed to step off the ledge … and met T.I. in the lobby, where the two were able to talk things out.

The iPhone Is Prude.

Now, its pretty well known fact that I’m not as wildly promiscuous as I have been in past years, but I’d still like the ability to send a good drunk text.  Apple is now trying to make that impossible. Today the US Patent and Trademark Office approved a patent Apple filed in 2008, which, get this, prevents users from sending or receiving “objectionable” text messages.  The patent’s official title? “Text-based communication control for personal communication device” which actually doesn’t use the pretty ridiculous noun/verb “Sexting,” but come on, we all know what they mean.

The “Sexting” patent background info states that the problem it solves is that there is currently “No way to monitor and control text communications to make them user appropriate. For example, users such as children may send or receive messages (intentionally or not) with parentally objectionable language.”

And the patent itself:

In one embodiment, the control application includes a parental control application. The parental control application evaluates whether or not the communication contains approved text based on, for example, objective ratings criteria or a user’s age or grade level, and, if unauthorized, prevents such text from being included in the text-based communication. Good thing I use BlackBerry.

The Tempest.

Click here to see the trailer

I’ve heard many people say different things when my name is brought up, but none of them was ever Shakespeare.  That being said, I have to say that I’m not fond of all of his work, but I do enjoy reading “Tempest”.  It’s a story about a remote Island where a guy tries to hook his daughter up with a job using magic, manipulation, and a massive storm.  (I’m fairly certain any english professor that read my synopsis just had a seizure.  But those are the essentials) The movie version has a great cast including Russel Brand from “Get Him To The Greek”, and has some crazy special effects.  It looks like a very unique movie, which is slightly hard to come by in Hollywood now a days.  Click the pic to watch the trailer.

Headphones That Save Lives.

As oil reaches recording break highs, more and more people are turning to bikes to get them around and of course nobody wants to leave behind creature comforts like music while driving. Problem is most of today’s headphones are designed to filter out background noise. That’s not very safe for a bicyclists since hearing what’s coming is important. The Semicircle headphones are designed to fit in your ear without blocking background noise.  The unit is wireless with a bluetooth module that connects to a standard headphone jack. Riding your bike, saving the Earth, saving money, and enjoying music while doing it shouldn’t be a hazard. Nice concept.

Stop Lookin At My Moms.

My friends are the inspiration for many of the things I put up.  We always have hilarious conversations about the different things we see, but none was funnier than talking about the “Stop Lookin At My Moms” video.  Apparently it seems to be an issue for young boys to have their mom’s hit on by grown men… Enough to make a rap video about it.

Hiding In The Costa Rican Rain Forrest.

It’s impossible not to fall in love with this house, hidden on a coastal hillside in Costa Rica. Surrounded by lush greenery, This house proves that Gia Zamora isn’t the only amazingly beautiful thing to hide out in Costa Rica, and with a fantastic view overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this home almost seems too good to be true…  Designed by SPG Architects, Casa Torcida has the largest domestic solar array in Costa Rica, which provides enough energy for lighting, appliances, and miscellaneous equipment. In the future, this solar-derived power will also provide for the needs of a state-of-the-art recording studio, located on the bottom floor.  The solar panels sit on a ceramic-based roof coating that both minimizes solar heat-gain and provides a clean source of water for the house and the pool, thus there is no need for well water. Cabinetry was locally fabricated from trees originally harvested from the foundation area and all materials were locally sourced whenever possible. No air-conditioning is required since natural cross breezes cool each room.

Virgin’s In Space?

The world’s first commercial spaceship made its first manned free flight over California Sunday and successfully landed at Mojave Air and Space Port.  Virgin Galactic, the US company developing the world’s first commercial manned space flight system and tourism business, announced the successful completion of the first piloted free flight of SpaceShipTwo, named the VSS Enterprise.

The spaceship was released from its mothership, the four-engined aircraft dubbed Eve, at an altitude of 45,000 ft (13,700 metres).  During its first flight the spaceship was piloted by Pete Siebold, assisted by Mike Alsbury as co-pilot.  The two main goals of the flight were to carry out a clean release of the spaceship from its mothership and for the pilots to free fly and glide back and land at Mojave Air and Space Port in California.

The VSS Enterprise was a real joy to fly, especially when one considers the fact that the vehicle has been designed not only to be a Mach 3.5 spaceship capable of going into space but also one of the worlds highest altitude gliders.” – Pete Siebold
