Adidas Wings

Adidas has a hit on their hands, I think — not just with these “Wings 2.0″ shoes designed by Jeremy Scott. The Star Wars line of originals was also a huge hit. Custom, short-run gear like this is blowing up — even mad designs (like these) are going to find buyers (like me). Combine expert curating with the long tail effect and… yeah. Wings on your shoes.

Will.I.Am Gets Jacked.

Black Eyed Peas’ Will.i.am is using technology to catch thieves. His parked Bentley was broken into and the thief made off with $10,000 worth of loot including jewelry, other personal property and the singer’s shiny Apple iPad.

Will.i.am tells how he was able to retrieve it:

“Everyone is talking about my car getting broken into… actually…I accidentally left it open…unfortunately someone walked by it and took everything out of it… in my car was my coke bottle cap bag…and in that bag was my drivers license, black American Express card, Visa card, 10 thousand dollars worth of items, and my ipad… ha ha… (thats when I remember I turned on “find my iPad” function) to make a long story short – threw gps and find my ipad on: I located it and the dumb ass criminals and sent 6 cops to their house…recovered all my stuff…”wow”…the lesson here is never steal technology…”

Or never leave your car open.

The Way I Live My Life

Now that I’m (allegedly) an adult, I tend to do most things my own way.  Some people love it, others loathe it, and most are just purely perplexed by it.  I never felt the need to explain myself to anyone, but when my assistant showed me ‘The 8 Irresistible Principles of Fun’, it described my thought process so well, I felt like I should share it.  Although I didn’t make the video, Toronto’s “Box of Crayons” made the great presentation.  Check the method.

Would You Live in a Shipping Crate?

Cheap, transportable and recyclable, Adam Kalkin’s container homes may be the next wave of prefab.

Adam Kalkin isn’t the only architect to make homes out of shipping containers. A handful of architects, including Jennifer Siegal and Lot-Ek, began using them ten years ago as a gritty reaction against the tidy white surfaces of modernism. But nobody has employed shipping containers more inventively than Kalkin, a New Jersey architect and artist who has used them to design luxurious homes, museum additions, and refugee housing.

Old School Japanese Street Racing.

Just came across a ridiculous street racing video from the 90′s that takes place in on the bi-ways of Japan.  Although this isn’t a drift video, the two drivers stunt constantly, dipping into lanes just to cut immediately back, and making some of the craziest passes I’ve seen since I moved out of Jersey.  Any racer, novice or experienced can for sure recognize the amount of skill (and size of balls) required to do some of these moves on an open road.  I also know that the video was not modified to speed up the action, so when it looks like they’re moving at 160 km/h, they really are.

Hermes Carre H Watch

Designed by French architect and designer Marc Berthier, the new Carre H watch is an avant-garde addition to Hermes’ watch collection.

Inside, the watch houses the Swiss automatic Sowind/Girard-Perregaux caliber GP3200 movement with a power reserve of 44 hours.

The case, in titanium, measures 36.5mm x 36.5mm. The crystal is an AR-coated sapphire (as is the display back) and it is water resistant to 30 meters.

The Hermes Carre H Watch will be released in a limited run of 173 pieces with a suggested retail price of $15,000.

‘The Future’ Is Here.

I had the distinct pleasure earlier today to speak with NY artist G.O.V., and get a copy of his track “The Future” to share with the you, good people of the internet.  The song features a soft melodic piano, complimented by the G.O.V.’s singing, and wrapped in a blanket of warbling bass and distinctively unique drums.  I honestly haven’t been able to take it off repeat since the first listen in studio, so I have no doubt that this, along with the rest of his upcoming mixtape, will soon become a classic.  Thanks again G for the exclusive… The future is looking bright.

Phil Jackson is Returning to the Lakers.

Phil Jackson

I don’t normally do anything pro-sports related (unless its a cheerleader).  But I had to report when I heard that Los Angeles Lakers Head Coach Phil Jackson has decided to return to coach the team for the 2010-11 season, it was announced today.  “Count me in,” said Jackson. “After a couple weeks of deliberation, it is time to get back to the challenge of putting together a team that can defend its title in the 2010-11 season. It’ll be the last stand for me, and I hope a grand one.”  Jackson, who most recently guided the Lakers to the 2010 NBA Championship, their second in a row, has won five titles as head coach of the Lakers. Overall, Jackson has guided his teams to eleven NBA Championships, the most of any coach in NBA history.

A member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, Jackson established a new Lakers franchise record for regular season victories earlier this year, earning his 534th career victory with a win over the Charlotte Hornets on February 3. The fastest coach to 1,000 career victories, his total of 1,098 regular season wins ranks him fifth all-time while his .705 winning percentage is the best in league history. Additionally, Jackson ranks first all-time in NBA postseason history with a .697 winning percentage (225-98). His 225 playoff victories are also the highest postseason win total for any head coach in league history.

“We’re extremely pleased that Phil has decided to return,” said Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak. “With this most recent championship, we’ve now won five titles in the ten years he’s been our head coach and have been to the Finals in seven of those ten years, which is amazing. He’s not only the best coach for this team, but quite simply the best coach in the history of the NBA.”

The 2nd of July…

The Most Expensive Sushi on Earth

An ambitious chef from the Philippines has created the world’s most expensive sushi, wrapped in gold leaves and small African diamonds.  The five pieces of sushi are worth about $2,000 (Start saving up Sadie).  These diamond encrusted delicacies were created by chef Araneta Jr. , who said his unusual food artworks are used as gifts in marriage proposals or during courtship.

Alarming Rings

This is the most creative alarm clock I’ve come across in a while.  The ring is a vibrating alarm designed for people who hate the loud blaring sounds of a typical alarm. The charging cradle is where you set what time you want each ring to go off. The ring fits over the tip of your finger and when that opportune time arrives, it vibrates. Putting the ring back on the dock shuts off the alarm.

The benefits are two-fold. It’s perfect for couples whom wake up at different hours. Never again will you be disturbed from your precious sleep when the alarm goes off. It’s a discrete sensation that only you feel. Another application is for the hearing impaired helping to improve their quality of life.
